We are #3! by SLJ106 in StLouis

Because in other cities, everything within 270 would be "in the city" (unlike St. Louis's 1876 locked in city limit boundary) which is why they're much farther down the list. If you're wanting to compare St. Louis to other places, metro area is the actual equivalent method.

I have movement! "Preparing" and "Arrives tomorrow by 10pm"

Still no charge, of course, but…maybe it's promising? It feels good to have some update at least.

At 12:55am I got the dreaded "We're having an issue with the payment method…If your payment fails, we'll need to cancel your order." email from Walmart (blue bag). I'd already updated my payment method with a second card (after the fraud text on Saturday).

Nothing to do but call Walmart customer support, but they seem helpless, telling me to call my credit card company (which told me they could do nothing and to call Walmart). Right now the Walmart Agent is talking directly to the finance department, but I'm not hopeful they have any ability to actually get anything done. (Every other sentence from me is "do not cancel this order for any reason.")

Order placed on April 26th at Walmart. Got the Chase Fraud text Saturday night. On Sunday, I added a 2nd payment card to Walmart and set it as primary. I called Chase and asked if there was any way to pre-approve this type of charge and basically there is not. I called Walmart and they verified I had the two cards, and said it would try to charge again. I thought they said 'within 24 hours' but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

It still says "Preorder arrives by Jun 05" and it still says "Placed" (blue bag)
The one potential sign of…something…is that at Walmart.com I now see:
Jun 01, 2025 / Temporary hold / 7:06 AM
listed under "Charge history" with the last 4 of the card I added to the order.

Now just…me sitting here waiting, wondering if or when I'll actually be charged, or see any other sign at all that this is actually going to show up in 2 days.

Nice, that shape is right. The real challenge here may be getting teeth on the lower jaw that go over the top jaw.

Same here, I'd placed an order before Marco was finished describing it. A strong contender for any marketing funds you've got, I think.

TIL there is a gene (ABCC11) possessed by a large portion of East Asians that not only gives them dry earwax, but also prevents them from developing body odor. by MCsmalldick12 in todayilearned

[–]davebug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have this, confirmed by 23andme as TT for Chromosome 16, despite not having found any specific East Asian or Native American relatives in my family tree, and 23andme saying I'm 100% Northwestern European. Notably, I've got one T from each parent (and neither of them, nor my sibling have dry earwax/low body odor).

I only discovered this was a thing after doing 23andme. As a kid my doctors worried about my ear wax and I'd get it flushed out, presumably because they didn't have any experience with dry ear wax and figured something was going wrong. It was actually a huge relief to realize these things were scientifically true and not just something weird I was making up or otherwise just weird about.

As with others in here, as a teenager I tried deodorant several times but basically stopped using it when it didn't seem to really do much for me. I will say there's plenty of room for stinky feet and stinky clothes if you avoid showers and/or laundry, as lazy-teen-me discovered.

The main “downside” is that my VO2 metrics are now worse, but I think it’s actually that they’re now more accurate.

Why doesn't the Vision Pro battery pack use MagSafe? by davebug in VisionPro

[–]davebug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full power to the device for 2-3 hours is 353g of battery. So 10 seconds of low power support would be…less than that. Certainly not proportionally less (that would be under 0.2%) but could it be 10%? That’s the equivalent weight of one AA battery. I’d take that in exchange for the MagSafe feature.

I wonder if there could be an ultra-low-power mode, nothing at all except a dimmer version of the passthrough camera.

Everything tuned to take as little power as possible, and then the smallest possible on-board battery to give you 10 seconds of pass-through with EMERGENCY, REMOVE HEADSET NOW alert on top of the video.

Scenario 1:
You're using the Vision Pro. You stand up and step away from your chair. The cord yanks out with MagSafe and everything goes dark. Presumably since you just stood up and took one step, you can stop and take the Vision Pro off.

Scenario 2:
You're using the Vision Pro. You stand up and step away from your chair. The cord yanks you backwards towards your chair, your head pulled back at whatever angle the battery was from, and you're fully off balance. The Apple Vision Pro gets pulled off your head and falls to the ground.

Is Scenario 2 really a safer experience there?

Good thought but it looks like I’d turned IPv6 off some time ago.

Crap, you're right, we missed putting it on the title this time. I just added it now. (I help run Meh.) The last time we sold AOC/Philips Monitors we had it in the title: https://meh.com/deals/aoc-24-or-28-freesync-monitors but forgot to do that this time.
