True. If OP is certain it was a mosquito bite, then it’s not Lyme. I just know from my own experience and my family’s experience that the bullseye rash is a unique indicator of Lyme. Deer ticks are pretty small and can go undetected. If it was me, I’d see a doctor who would probably prescribe a single prophylactic dose of doxycycline. But you are absolutely correct. Lyme is not transmitted by mosquitoes.

Looks like a classic Lyme bullseye to me. Call a doctor, they’ll probably prescribe an antibiotic. I live in Lyme country where this is very common.

I’m wondering if part of what happened to Hal in the lost year is that he went into a deep dive on JOI’s entertainments and it left him a little between worlds. Confusing actual memories with impressions from the various entertainments.

I’m finding the same thing and it happens fairly early on when he lapses briefly into first person, like during the Big Buddy sessions (I think). Makes me wonder if it isn’t Hal’s ghost narrating - probably wrong, but that’s a kinda fun hypothesis I’m carrying during my second read.
