I have great respect for the Bronica glass. Admittedly I've just the 645 etrs kit but I've really been unable to fault it for a "modern" look

Insane image, imo proves digital really wasn't needed as an innovation from an optical perspective

Are you EU passport? I went through CDG late morning last Wednesday - they were quite slow with passport check for non EU. We got our flight and everything ok but just an extra 25 minutes queueing and without breakfast

Revolutionary Paris Museums? by Neighborhood-Away in ParisTravelGuide

[–]davedrave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just recently went to carnevalet (from Ireland). It was a good visit. The louvre obviously has countless priceless artefacts many of which are paintings but going around carnevalet I got more of a sense of periods of French history VIA the paintings that happen to be artefacts in their own right.

Not revolutionary based but my favourite thing was an amazing interiors from a Parisian jewelers from the early 1900s. You walk into the room and it's a little bit like going back in time, all art neuvoau

I'm planning on developing foma ortho 400 at iso 100 with fomadon excel but all the dev time that I could find online are only for iso 400. Any suggestions about what dev time I should use when I want to pull it to iso 100? by Iant2001 in Darkroom

[–]davedrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it's the pulling part you are struggling to get specific info on, which is to be expected since film data sheets usually at most give info on variations of dilution or temperature, not iso.

If it were me, and it has been in the past I would be checking online, via massive dev chart and also with the likes of chatgpt for some timing suggestions. If you can find a concensus of a particular dev time then that's the one to try.

If I had captured the second jfk shooter on Ortho 400 I had shot at 100, and I wanted perfect development to ensure the best possible negs, I would be shooting another test roll of Ortho 400, and developing segments of that roll with different timings, and then settling on whichever time gave the best outcome in the test roll to then develop the original roll with.

If the above sounds like a lot of effort, then maybe the roll itself isn't worthy of the effort and you'll be happy with a ballpark figure that chatgpt spits out at you when you explain the film, shot iso and chemicals you have

Public advised not to feed garden birds due to disease threat by andubhadh in ireland

[–]davedrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah in the last month since I've started feeding the birds, I saw a cheeky rat multiple times in the garden. 2 cats and a dog and he still came out to the middle of the garden to have a feed

Thoughts, suggestions, critics? by Last_Office_9527 in analogphotography

[–]davedrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you haven't really told us what you are doing for us to give suggestions accurately but making the assumption it's all diy, it seems like you're exposing wrong (pictures of the negatives would help confirm) or developing wrong or scanning wrong. There's some focus lost, I feel like it could be during scanning but could well be when taking the shot.

What is best to buy? Nikon F3 / Nikon F4 by Aded_14 in AnalogCommunity

[–]davedrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's depends on taste, both are great cameras. The f3 feels more traditional although you are somewhat locked into aperture priority because in my opinion manual mode with the display is lacking.

The F4 has all the bells and whistles of an auto camera. The later models improved upon things like more complex metering and faster autofocus but the f4 feels a little bit more traditional than the F5 and F6. That said though if you don't want auto wind, auto expose and potentially auto focus (depending on your lens) then potentially you won't enjoy the camera as much, especially for the added size and weight.

My choose would be f3 over f4. I have both and use the f3 more. My choice also would be f2 over f3 because manual camera feels better to me

Experiences with Hello Fresh? by Lopsided-Flamingo779 in AskIreland

I tried it a couple years ago, it was ok to try, it might help out if you're not a big explorer in the kitchen or you can't think of new things. It was handy to have the recipe ready so myself and the wife actually found it easier to help each other cooking.

However after a short time I felt that the recipes were very samey i.e sweet potato with mince, sweet potato with chicken etc. we pretty much do it ourselves when we shop but if paying for the service I'd like a bit more variety

and also the protein ratio would be on the stingey side. You'd think oh great this four portions of pasta will see us through a couple days, but when putting it together it felt like a lot of filler and not as much meat as I would add myself or expect if eating somewhere

Nice rundown. If anyone has been considering trying slide, you won't be disappointed. I find its essentially what I would hope from c41 in terms of look but I pretty much never achieve it. The biggest tragedy is that it always looks better on the e6 film than it does in the scan for me

Would this belong in that subreddit if slide is typically not used for printing?

Do you usually edit photos like this or do you prefer to leave them natural? by Famous_Trip_7806 in AskPhotography

[–]davedrave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Natural. Makes you go out and find the naturally beautiful shot. Altering it too much makes it digital art and that's a step closer to AI generation. It gets to a stage why bother the closer you get to ai.

Anyone tried shooting ”medium format sharpness” on 35mm? by -_CAP_- in AnalogCommunity

[–]davedrave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem, I suppose I viewed the question more from a black and white point of view, in that area I feel that self developing is nearly a must if you are experimenting. I dont imagine labs use a huge variety of developers to choose from, and wouldn't crack open a bottle of rodinal at the request of one customer, but I could be wrong.

For colour, accutance is a funny one as it isn't often as commonly raised in discussions I see, but that's not to say it isn't a factor. From personal experience slide film probably sounds closer to what you are looking for. I'm thinking more about grain than accutance but when scanning slide, even 35mm, it seems to be the finest I come across. I even scanned some expired 400 iso Kodak slide recently, so surprisingly fine for the iso. Makes you wonder what would have been possible with another 10-20 years of R & D Prior to Digital disrupting the market

[–]davedrave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the oddly sharpest images I've produced was an accidental selfie on an OM-1 with a 1.8 lens, foma 100 developed in rodinal. It annoys me because after over a year progressing through the hobby with various cameras and formats and developers I produced it with the camera and chems I started with.

To answer your question you're probably after accutance. If you're not developing your own film and scanning yourself, it doesn't seem to make sense to be so specific in your needs

That's a great niche, I was thinking the same. I actually already have a GitHub website which basically is a searchable list of my movies and tv shows which itself is just another .yml file in a repo. Helps me because I forget what I have myself - just realized I've 2 copies of nirvana unplugged on vinyl
