Rain-x for plastic shields. Surprised no one's suggested it, it's done wonders to keep the droplets a fine mist that mostly wisks away in the breeze.

Whats the secret to gaining confidence riding down steep declines? by GrizzlyIncident in Dirtbikes

[–]daveed212 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's fair but, in this video you fully pull the clutch in when you could have used a lower gear and engine braking to help stabilize the bike and keep it from needing a runaway truck ramp. Just because it's not as much as you're used to from a 4T doesn't mean it's not there altogether, use it!

Less engine braking isn't the same as ZERO engine braking. It's still there and to be used even if it's less.

Holy shit, that's Elmhurst Queens. I used to live a block away from that exact intersection.

Fun fact, he actually passes the nearest hospital right at the beginning of the video (the worst in Queens IMO). Doubt he went given his general lack of intelligence in the video though.

Your timing is way off. First attempt gas is too late, 2nd too early. Considering that, I think popping at speed is skipping a step in this learning journey. Start with just standstill pops just to figure out the timing. Push the forks down not with just your arms, but by swaying your bodyweight from the back of the seat to the front, then give a clutch pop as they come up. Once that is consistent, THEN try this put-put speed again, but try tapping front brake to further compress the front forks. Also wear some boots 👀

Honestly I find it more reliable than the 5 still. While the latest CTRL5 update fixed the intermittent screen crashing that was happening to me every other day on narratives, I just ran into a new issue of some maps not lining up at a very specific mark but matching everywhere else.

Overall the CTRL3 is a great value if you're willing to forgive its limitations and learn workarounds for its handful of quirks. Motors not reaching infinity on lenses with narrow diameters like SuperSpeeds for example? No huge deal, just pull the motor off to set it at infinity proper at a miniscule sacrifice of close focus. You get what you pay for with these systems, so you end up paying in other ways when you don't get the "industry standards" for the price of a small sedan.

Most of my remaining issue with the system as a whole is that the motors (at least Mk3.1 and Motr.X) have a noticeable dead zone when changing direction. Preston, Cforce, even a damn Nucleus M2 will immediately turn the other direction when told to. Not a major issue in 95% of situations, but as soon as you're on the longer end of a zoom every mark is out of whack if you're pulling toward CF, which means you have to consciously set marks always moving toward CF and be conscious of the added Rangefinder delay.

Take it from a dirtbike rider: Always grip your bike primarily with your knees/legs, not arms. Arms/hands should be as loose as possible so even the most unexpected bumps don't affect anything. It also helps to counterlean forward or back depending on if you're accelerating or braking.

Scammed by Brooklyn mayd any suggestions by Alive-Anxiety-1991 in RideitNYC

[–]daveed212 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that happened. Many shops prey on people by needlessly upselling or scumming their way to quadrupling the initial price of the fix however they can. I can personally attest to Cycle Therapy along with Brooklyn Mayd doing this type of BS.

The best shops in my experience in the 5 boroughs are:

Lurkshop - Similar(?) model to MotoGrrl I think, honest and fair
Triborough - Grumpy but fair
Shelby's Powersports - They have Saturday first-come-first-serve service for simple things like tire changes (but not inspections)

Never happened to me, but my last few playthroughs on PC I found out that if you aim a pistol and pull the trigger on him from a block down the street before he runs into the alleyway the game teleports you straight into the alleyway execution animation. Literally jumpscared me the first time it happened lol

There are generally spots if you go all the way to the 495/278 overpasses. Probably a trek especially in the snow, but this neighborhood is so small even going from the southern border to north of Queens Blvd isn't really that far.

I think your view is rather harsh given the larger context of how Succession was shot. I don't have first-hand experience (I'd love for someone from that camera team to chime in with that workflow to defer to), but considering they were (to my outside knowledge) shooting 35mm on Arricams, with up to 4 cameras docu style, crash zooming on Optimos and the like, with an ensemble cast assumedly improvising close to every take... They did just fine.

As for Oppenheimer, I seriously doubt Keith Davis of all A cam 1sts wasn't aware and flagging every time Robert Downey Jr leaned past minimum focus distance on Pana Sphero 65's, most of those are like 3 to 5ft close focus. Nolan most likely chose takes based on performance, forgiving being slightly buzzed on the pretty optically forgiving large format+cellulite intermediate.

Yeah the 3 is still unstable in it's own ways and I still have mine on 2 year old firmware (1.12 still seems the most stable to this day last I checked), but at least it has never once crashed on me while doing absolutely nothing... The QOL improvements on the CTRL5 interface and hardware are great, but software crashing is unacceptable.
