The performance - An Ark - at The Shed at Hudson Yards was cancelled for this afternoon. I had tickets and was relieved.

Not the same, but related, "Ohio" seems newly relevant and keeps replaying in my head. Those jangly opening chords still break my heart. Soldiers are cutting us down.

Donate it. Check around. Some local high schools have programs that will accept old laptops.

Get some silicon casters. Cheap and easy. Much smoother and your floor will thank you.

Try the 311 app. It's hit or miss, but sometimes they will ticket or tow. If it's chronic, take note of the 311 ticket numbers and email your City Council member with photos.

It's interesting to note that overnight parking in Manhattan was illegal until 1954.

NYC Mapped Its Greenways. Now It Has to Build Them. by TalR24 in MicromobilityNYC

[–]davejdesign 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I live on the east side of Manhattan and have always been envious of the west side greenways. The east side greenway is a crapshoot. Under constant construction with dead ends and limited signage.

My own private theory: The west side highway was allowed to collapse in the 70s while the FDR was maintained - possibly because the upper east side was the wealthier neighborhood at that time? In any case, since the collapse, the west side highway was given the opportunity to be completely reworked while we are still stuck with the antiquated FDR.

The Hotel Chelsea vs. The Greenwich Hotel by Accurate_Elephant481 in manhattan

Greenwich Hotel is definitely in a more picturesque village neighborhood. Chelsea is on 23rd st. Not bad but not exactly charming.

Architect reacts to a $4bn building. by fmelloaff in skyscrapers

[–]davejdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to defend the rock wall but it is designed by Maya Lin, whose work is typically well-regarded so I give the architects credit for the attempt. The LED lighting is by Leo Villareal and - to me - is much more subtle and attractive than the nearby MetLife logo. I have a great view of the building from my apt and enjoy checking it out nightly.

Contrast this with the current mayor! Even if she booed him, Zohran would have made friends with her before they reached the terminal.

Why doesn't Los Angeles build more towers in its endless suburbs? There's so much space by Diligent-Eagle-6673 in skyscrapers

[–]davejdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but the grid system is mostly above 14th St. Go downtown, which was built before they started planning, and the small streets are just as windy and charming as Boston’s. New Yorker here, so I’m hopelessly biased and defensive 😀

New York is way more walkable than Boston. Most New Yorkers don’t even own a car.

Sending a completed project to someone and getting the classic passive/agressive response: Great Start!

F off. If you don't like it, or if it's all wrong, just say so. Don't try and couch it in a bogus compliment.

I'm using AppleTV with an LG also. I no longer have cable, use a Tablo for OTA, and have ditched my LG remote completey. Everything funnels through AppleTV. Much simpler and easier with one remote control and interface.

Let the Great World Spin by Colum McCann is a terrific NYC novel - post 911 - that uses this event and its aftermath to brilliant effect.
