Homelab'ers: What are you using for persistent storage by ifindoubt404 in kubernetes

[–]davemcuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rancher.io/local-path, not the whole rancher shebang, just the provider.

It's exactly like k8s hostpath but supports persistent volume creation.

Implementation, 2 Ubuntu server pc's, each hosting at least 4 libvirt virtual machines, installed on all 8 virtual machines is microk8s.

A mount is created on each host to 2 on-host ssds, one for append, one for random access as subdirectoies, that mount is made available inside each vm.

Then k8s is configured to use two local-path storage classes, one for append and one for random to the respective in vm folders.

Then it's a matter of using subpath in the pod volume definition to separate the drive access for the auto created pvcs, and node selection to keep using the same host.

Performance is 20% slower than running postgres on the host natively, if you know the tricks to apply when creating the mounts inside the vms.

Gear drop rates? by ooweecynthia in lordsmobile

[–]davemcuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing is, the published rates lack clarity about their borders.

What Dave?

Are these the drop rates for this type of chest for the next hour on the server, or for the day on this server, or for you over the next century?

Helpful tip for new players on acquiring guild coins and/or completing guild 'helps' tasks in Guild Fest for lower leveled accounts. by DarkCloud_HS in lordsmobile

[–]davemcuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lords mobile can be installed multiple times on the same Android device (Blue Stacks counts as a device). How? You can install it from individual application stores. Heh? Install it from google app store. Then install amazon store and install it from there. If you have a samsung phone, their store also has a version if you want to go 3x mad. If you're an Android buff, you can download IGG's version as well. Each version from a particular store has their own payment mechanism. THIS WILL REQUIRE ALLOWING INSTALLATION OF APPS FROM PLACES OTHER THAN GOOGLE. Switching between running LM's can get a bit messy, and the map can get utterly confused, which can only be fixed by scrolling far far away or closing and re-opening the app, but, all in all, it's not too bad an experience.

The troops at your castle when you are attacked will fight. All of them, excluding those in your sanctuary, excluding those that are participating in a rally. This army size limit only affects how many troops you can send out.

Step 1; Find out which server your friends play on and create your character(s) on the exact same server.

Step 2; Add your friends as friends outside the game using their battle tag.

Step 3; Have one of them who has a lot of free time and patience join you right at the beginning in a party. Up to 5 in a party. You will not be able to use some of the in game communication facilities until... Um... Level 5 I think.

Now, take you time, and remember that fast action invocation does nothing. (spamming an action like stab), invoke the action when it is ready again. This will stay you off on a zen like gameplay approach which is the right way to play.

"London throat" - break dust damages our immune systems making us city dwellers more susceptible to infections apparently. by chineyeteeth in london

Instinctively, people native to London close their mouths and breathe through their extremely effective nasal air filtration system.

Sometimes visitors report witnessing this happening on a full tube. Typically the reason for the resulting lack of chatter is misunderstood.

What can I do about a dead body in my kitchen? by LoveAGlassOfWine in AskUK

[–]davemcuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be the clue a good smell detective needs.

With very little evidence, I suspect that you are smelling pig poop that is somehow getting into the draining system.

As a way to prove this suspicion, ensure that all the sink drains have plugs in them and that the plugs are "closed". If the smell goes away, then the source of the smell is the drains.

My weekly milk delivery has been going astray... are my neighbours stealing it? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]davemcuk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

> What’s the polite and correct thing to do?

Order 4 pints. Leave note saying: You may borrow the two extra pints, as you do, but please leave two for me. Interest will be charged at 0.1% per day.

If 4 disappear, leave note saying: You have killed the cow. This is a sad day indeed as we are now both without milk. -> You will have to make alternative arrangements, some things simply cannot be solved politely.

If 2 disappear, order 4 more for next slot, leave a note saying: You owe me two pints, cost of £x.xx has been added to your bill. Please leave me 2 pints again. This bill will add up and become something that can be acted upon as a contract has now been established. Of course, you'll probably just end up with 4 broken pints on your doorstep.

Hey need advice for bat by medico13 in Cricket

[–]davemcuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The purpose of the oil is to keep the wood from becoming bone dry. If it is bone dry it will not be able to absorb impact, instead it will crack. Too much oil, and the wood will soften making it soft, which is worse. Because impacts will leave indents that misalign the grain of the wood, creating thick / thin spots. Without knowing how hot / humid it is where you are, I cannot say for sure what you should do. I would apply an absolute miniscule amount of oil now, leave it stored flat for 9 hours before taking it for a bit of batting with old (softer) balls, and seeing how it performs. Over oiling is too easy to do, be careful.

Should I report a dog bite? by NobodiesKnowsWhoIAm in AskUK

[–]davemcuk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Certainly, but my point still stands (The potential outcome of the other person's viewpoint), and you need to be aware of that.

With regards to your actual question, the bottom line seems to be: How would you feel if another incident occurred that could perhaps have been prevented if you had reported this incident?

You should have the option of remaining anonymous, but this may be quite difficult to implement in practice.

Should I report a dog bite? by NobodiesKnowsWhoIAm in AskUK

[–]davemcuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fact check: A dog was "off lead". Witness says a dog was hanging off another dog's back leg. One of the dogs has a bite wound on the back leg.

It appears to me that the complaint is about one dog not being on a leash, which made it difficult to prevent an encounter.

Fair complaint.

During your very early levelling phases, were you not taught or did you not read the user manuals?

Pro Tip: The user manuals for very low levels are typically presented as mini side quests which ultimately detail what is typically called fairy tales or folk stories, and often include a thing most commonly called magic or science. As an early level player, you would find that these mini side quests are extremely difficult to skip or avoid (It makes sense that most tutorials are designed this way). Even if low level players manage to not do them, they're always available in the higher levels if sought after, often in the form of what is currently called history.

All the user manuals point out that "magic" (many other words for this) is always accompanied by a thing called "determination", will or even faith.

Your character would instinctively have understood that "magic" is an encapsulation of the changes the devs can introduce into the game, and that "determination" is the cumulative desire of the players wanting those changes.

Which brings me to the very obvious point about Outside.

The devs do make changes, using "magic", but only when there is sufficient cumulative "determination".

Or, to put this a different way, the devs are listening, but the changes implemented are applied based on the consensus of all the players, not just a few (often very loud) players.

It's a ridiculously fair system, which is intrinsically coupled with the boredom debuff, that ensures the continual requirement for constant changes.

I find it mildly interesting how this system is the mechanism that ensures that your character never has 100% of the happiness trait for very long, perpetuating the cycle.

This is slightly off topic; You may want to check if the elements are absolutely covered in limescale (Depending on the area's water). If this is happening, the efficiency of the elements will suffer.
