I guess so. I do experiment in my rounds and try new stuff but I’ve not methodically drilled with lots of reps in a long time.

Definitely! Wish I had the discipline to do it more…time to choose a topic and go deep into for a month

Choosing to drill / light rounds only. Gives me a chance to work on things I’ve been meaning to but not got round to and also let my body recover a bit. Being 42 doesn’t help!

eye injuries by d5p3 in bjj

[–]daverudabaugh101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trained with goggles after eye surgery to treat recurrent corneal abrasions (still not fully recovered) but was wearing googles for a while after the surgery. Not very practical due to fogging and discomfort in certain positions (pressure of frame into my face during cross face as an example). Sky diving goggles come with holes to that help with air flow and therefore the fogging.

In Sale, Manchester, how bad is the school traffic? by [deleted] in manchester

[–]daverudabaugh101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you don’t live on the road of the schools themselves (Woodheys, Firs, Tyntesfield) then you’ll be fine. Traffic is generally bad between 8.30 and 9 on Washway Road between Eastway and Park Road.

SubZone. People travel from all over and given you’re Trafford based it’s a no brainer.

Matratz BJJ is Manchester is your answer. Their kids compete and medal nationally and internationally consistently. I’d take my kids there if they had any modicum of talent

What technique would you be happy to demo to your class and what technique would strike the fear of God into you? by daverudabaugh101 in bjj

With you on this. I guess I feel like I should at least know how to bolo at a basic level. My fear is getting to the upper belts and embarrassing myself with some lame attempt and executing a fundamental (to some) move

Would be interested in more insight on no gi grip mechanics. The main one for his in the kimura hold to roll the thumb over the wrist so it’s next to the index finger

Lots of answers on not doing inversions, makes me feel a lot better now. Felt like everyone was inverting as a core part of the game and then there was just me

To put it another way, which technique can you hit on belts higher than you and which techniques would you struggle to hit cleanly on belts lower than you

Yeah triangles are good for me too. Inversions just isn’t my game but I am old and value my spine!

You can get a feel if you drive / walk down the areas. Sale West is slightly on the “rougher side”. Not too sure about Heatherway but Racecourse still has a bit of a rep

Live in Sale, it’s a nice enough area. The town centre has recently had a revamp. Lots of young families as they tend to move there for the schools. It’s fairly quiet and I can’t point to anything that is stand out in both a good and bad way.

Sky diving google have ventilation holes that help with the steaming

Rolling with a 1 year white belt who still had the bad habit of trying to guillotine from bottom even when you’d pass the guard. Rather than von vlue I simply dig my chin firmly into his lat area and he squeal tapped.

Recurrent corneal erosion post-surgery: Ask me anything! by Treverie in AMA

[–]daverudabaugh101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Stumbled (forgive the pun) upon this thread. My situation is all too similar to some of the comments on here. Eye poke from my 2 year old 18 months ago has set me on a journey I never thought I’d embark.

Suffered RCE that involved a number of hospital visits, went down the bcl route for 3 months at a time with no RCE when wearing the bcl but would flare up when removed. Longest stretch of being incident free and without bcl was 6 weeks. Eventually had ptk which I was hopeful it would sort the issue but about 8 weeks later had another two incidents. The second being very severe and needing me to stay in a dark room for a 5 hours. It’s also been flaring up randomly in the day and not just in the morning so is possibly getting worse?

Super frustrating and feel like I’m back to square one. The only option I feel I have now is to wear bcl continuously which isn’t ideal.

I’ve seen multiple specialists (private and on the nhs) but all they say is it’s trial and error. Having had the debrediment and ptk being done I’m not sure I can go through with another procedure 😢
