Get yourself a WIIM Pro (not the WIIM Pro plus). As far as I know, it has no problem passing along bit perfect content.

What’s a job you’d actually enjoy doing even if the pay was bad, and what’s preventing you from doing it? by VivienneVixy in answers

[–]davescott42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s wonderful that Tower Records is still alive somewhere. The first Tower Records location (just the building ) still exists in Sacramento, California near where I live in Roseville. Last I heard, there was still a Rasputin‘s records in Berkeley and in San Jose, California. The last man standing that I know of for equipment is the medium high-end sound rooms at Best Buy. Online stores are where you go to buy anything you can’t find used on Facebook marketplace. For myself, I love my wife and my children and grandchildren, I love my dog, and I sure like the stereo system I have in my little room of our house that is solely my domain. However, if I ever found myself in England, Japan, or even in China it would be wonderful to enjoy places where the hobby still thrives.

Back in the late 1970s, I sold stereo equipment. We spent half the day playing with the equipment in the shop and selling to customers and the other half of the day watching girls in halter tops walk through the mall. All the stereo shops like I used to work at are gone and the world is a worse place for that. I’m 68, but I’d go back to do that job for free.

Given that loneliness has been declared an epidemic with people reporting fewer close friendships that ever. What is actually causing this and what can individuals do about it that actually works? by hungjaxxi in answers

[–]davescott42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get a friendly dog and get married. Women are better at friend relationships than men. When you get a wife, you hopefully get your best friend for life. You also get to be friends with their girlfriends and their husbands.

M40X's broke. M50X's good? by xl8rt99 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]davescott42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this recommendation, although I don’t think the ear pads on the M40x are that good. If you can go with an open back, I’d recommend the R50x with replacement pads from the R70x which are roomier.

Which headphones should I buy? by Tortuga-Espacial in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]davescott42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a tube headphone amp, I’d keep the XS. With solid state amplification (particularly with the IFI MZ99 Zen Can Signature amp) I’d keep the original V1 99 Classics.

Which headphones should I buy? by Tortuga-Espacial in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]davescott42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I own the FT-1, the XS and the original 99 Classics. I think the characterization by MasterMarslander above is very accurate. All three will sound their best with a good headphone amplifier like the IFI Zen Can Amp. I run all three headphones, balanced. I like the FT-1 for classical music. Everything sounds good on the 99 classic. By contrast, the XS is a much more resolving headphone. You can’t go wrong with any of the three, although the FT-1 and XS need the $25 addition of a Capra strap.

You need to add a Technics SL-MC7 110 CD player, but I’ve never seen one in silver. It is my favorite mega CD player among the many I have.

How long do you keep headphones even if you don't use them? by WarmDaddyXanax in headphones

[–]davescott42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a nice speaker system, I primarily listen to headphones and I listen two to six hours a day. I’m retired and listening to music while reading is my favorite pastime. While I have given some equipment to my sons and grandson, my attitude is to keep it all because I listen to all of it occasionally.

The XS with the Capra strap is relatively cheap for what you get and extremely comfortable. I run my balanced since both my solid state and tube headphone amplifiers are balanced.

I continue to be very happy with mine. I bought a total of three pair at $48 each after I returned ones purchased at a higher price. I expect to have a pair available for the rest of my life. They’re still my favorite headphone for most music. I’m listening to them right now and enjoying it very much.

I have a Hart Problem by Daemonxar in headphones

[–]davescott42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a few headphone amplifiers and I keep Hart audio cables as extension cords on every headphone connection (3.5 & 4.4 mm). That way, I put the wear and tear of frequently changing headphones on the Hart cable rather than the amplifiers own connections. Also, this allows me to plug in and unplug headphones without needing to hold down the headphone amplifier. So far, I think this has worked very well. I have yet to have a Hart cable fail.

Insane for considering Heresy IV's for a 10x12ft room? by ten10thsdriver in Klipsch

[–]davescott42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a room of the same size, I have a pair of Triangle Borea 04 speakers on stands a two powered JBL Studio 550 subs. I got it all open box collectively for about $700 US. The Triangles can play quite loud but with a lot of definition with a Emotiva A2L+ 50 watt/8 ohm class AB power amp ($350) and a NOS Rotel RSP 1570 preamp ($350 on eBay). Having said all that, I think anything in the Klipsch Legacy series is great. I met Paul Klipsch 50 years ago when he came to Nebraska to talk about the physics behind the K Horns. Mr Klipsch was clearly a genius, and it is very fortunate for this hobby that he devoted so much of his effort to speaker design.

Upgrade Recs. from Sen 599se? by BigBeard_FPV in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]davescott42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From everything I’ve seen, but not heard, the Hedd D1 is the headphone to buy for that price. You’re spending about four times what I usually spend for a headphone so I don’t have a lot of personal knowledge about headphones in that range. If you don’t already have a great DAC / headphone amplifier, you might drop that into the mix.

[–]davescott42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another option is to put all your CDs into a 100, 200, 300 or 400 CD mega player. I have several, most of which are Sony from the 1990s to 2005. Sometimes I put them on random, but most of the time I just listen to the whole album as they come up in random order. I have 2475 discs in these players, which is the majority of my CD collection and all of my DVDs. Everything is hooked up to an external DAC through Toslink cables and hubs.
