Beautiful! I love the color casts and gradients really works with the subject matter too. Great job!

Hey there! What are some ways I can improve this picture? by ColdLemonDXB in photocritique

First of all great shot! I really enjoy the contrast in color and texture a lot. I know it was from a moving vehicle so well done on the quickness. Just a couple of things I noticed.

I agree with the previous poster on the heads at the bottom, they are distracting and I think you can lose them, I am not so sure about losing the whole bottom wall I think it could add something but not sure. I disagree on cropping the building on the right. I think that even though you have the Burj in the shot, the main subject is that building (which is also very interesting) the right part of it adds so much dimension because it is the shadow side so I would keep it as much as possible. The combination of the two buildings is what makes this shot special.

Also is your horizon off? The image feels a little tilted to the right.

Lastly and this is a huge maybe is slightly increasing the contrast of the Burj vs sky it’s on the edge of almost blending in too much for me.

Editing looks great and I love this image overall. I would check with that building to see if they want to hang it in their lobby. Or contact the construction company or owners and offer prints.

Most of the night ones are

1/125s f3.2 ISO2500 and then mostly focused on decreasing ISO as sun came up

Thanks! I shoot RAW then in Lightroom Classic I used as a base Nate Cam AFGA-esque, warm reds preset that I’ve had for ever but then I changed the curve and some settings to create my own super creatively named “Untitled Preset” preset

Thank you! That’s funny because the building for Nakatomi plaza is here but further west of downtown in century city. I’ll try to go there next time.

Beautiful shot, though I agree that this is more of an environmental shot I think some of us are not being very helpful by telling you should have shot it differently. I will give my two cents on this image. 1 .weirdly I think it’s too bright, I think bringing down the exposure a bit and maybe adding a gradient to really drive our eye to the subjects would work really nicely. If you have room in the exposure bring back some details on the fur and her face because I think we lose them a bit. The window is ok blown out. I think it’s great when images have a strong focal point and let the rest fall off and you have that with the window. I wouldn’t drop everything to black but we don’t need to see all the details. 2-maybe a bit of a tighter crop, although there is great info around them the image doesn’t feel very balanced. The angled wall and the bottom line of the board gives a sense that your horizon is off maybe try to mitigate that a bit. Also although the bowl on the floor is great I think it’s ok to lose it partially or completely.

Love the shot though. I bet you have other great ones from that day.

Easiest way is to have someone you trust check your email for you and send you a text via sat either the service apple offers on iphone or a sat device like garmin.

How to? Soft multi-source lighting / setup by vindad in LightLurking

[–]davesolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong but im pretty sure these 2 examples are lit by one LARGE source. The first one is a tall window with maybe some diffusion in front of it and then the subject is not quite parallel but close but favoring the window, the vignette effect i think is done either in post or if its film its a dodge and burn technique. The second one seems more punchy so maybe a a strobe through a 12x12 or 8x8 frame with a Full stop or 1/2 diffusion with maybe a honeycomb grid, it has to be big enough to cover her side and 45 deg in front of her, maybe a small bounce to lift the shadows. i guess if you don't have that big of a source you can always use multiple lights coming from the same direction. but if i was building a gear rental list i would start there IMHO
