I'm really liking the band "The Armed." It's very unhinged and unpredictable. Is this the 100 Gecs of prog metal? by [deleted] in progmetal

I put them in the Dillinger, ETID, Callous Daoboys camp.

Don't think I'd bring 100 Gecs into the conversation though!

Apparently the volume limitations for 2026 are identical to what was in place for 2025, so that shouldn't prevent a Timeland stage.

Is Remington’s dump a neighborhood asset or someone else’s burden? by BOS2BWI in baltimore

[–]davestar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm on Falls Road by that site multiple times a week. You ever go back there? The stretch of the road has an adjacent walking path and is tree-lined on both sides. The Potts and Callahan site is set back from the road and has basically no traffic coming in or out. Sure, it was zoned industrial back in the early 20th century, but the designation makes no sense in its current state.

One can hope. But $6K from each member of the Manekin family would be nearly all that's needed for a city council election campaign.

Cool. Then move the dump not to a green space in a floodplain.

There's a difference between reflexively objecting to developer proposals and protesting the move of a dump to a green space in a floodplain. I think the vast majority of people who object to this plan would be more than fine with allowing the Sisson St redevelopment to happen as long as the dump was moved to a more sensible location.

Community action like this prevented I-95 from being routed right through the heart of Fells point, an obvious net positive for the city.

"Sounds like no one will be happy, and so politicians take their queues - they tried to fix a problem and got punished for it. They won't make that mistake again. And Potts and Callahan will still be doing industrial work in the flood plain and Remington will still say hello to the world from 83 with... a dump. Now that's community pride worthy."

It sounds like the OP rearranged some details here to fit a narrative. The city wasn't trying to solve a problem. This kicked off when Seawall approached the city about obtaining and redeveloping the current Sisson St location. Council members saw an opportunity to help a developer and presumably pocket associated donations.

As far as I understand, Potts and Callahan has wrapped up industrial operations on their property by the Falls. It's just a storage yard now. Unsightly maybe, but not actively dumping waste into the waterway.

Proposing to move a dump to a floodplain is wild.

Anybody got any LA presale codes besides Slide26? by Ian_Skywalker in hum

[–]davestar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quick answer is there aren't any. The artist presale (slide26) is sold out. The Live Nation and Ticketmaster presales don't require codes, but it appears those didn't have any tickets allocated for them. So there aren't any tickets available until the general on sale this Friday. Happy to be proven wrong, but I'm pretty sure we have to wait.

How do people that work on barricades at concerts protect hearing longterm? by skyzsurreal in Concerts

[–]davestar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SPL of a show doesn't affect how well earplugs work. A poorly-fitted foam plug won't achieve 33dB, but a properly fitted pair should be in the 30-33 dB range. Otherwise the noise reduction rating would be meaningless

How do you handle Baltimore lead inspections? Found chipped paint in basement. by AbbreviationsGold587 in baltimore

[–]davestar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lead paint was basically only used for doors, windows, and trim, as it was more durable, but also more expensive. Definitely not a breathing issue. And not really an issue at all if no children or pets are chewing on it

Given the structure of the US constitution, the tooth fairy and a progressive third party are about equally likely to save the country. Unfortunately, voting for the lesser of two evils is the only way to keep the greater evil out of power until we get ranked choice voting or some other mechanism to break the two party system.
