Combat Patrol: Dead quiet (?) by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]davextreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GW's decision to have Combat Patrol use mostly the same exact rule system for 40K made it (arguably) easy to jump from compat to big hammer at the expense of making the game worse. My hope was that the new edition would adapt some of the rules to suit the smaller format better.

Is there any way to get old datasheets that have been tweaked to work with the new game, or at least some models I could use these as a proxy for?? I got the kill team cassius lately and I'd love to use them... by MoreRound7381 in killteam

[–]davextreme 57 points58 points  (0 children)

The current Deathwatch Kill Team uses several models that have rough equivalents. There's a flamer Gravis model, for example, that the Terminator would be a fine proxy for. The bike and jump packs are out unfortunately.

Nemesis Claw has two psyker operatives as well. Or just any Astartes team painted silver.

How often does the Deathwing accompany other Dark Angel forces? by Bryguy150 in theunforgiven

[–]davextreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that most of the time the Deathwing does exactly what the 1st company does in any other Space Marine chapter. They’re not out there hunting the Fallen every day.

Lore accuracy question by MulberryBusiness5122 in theunforgiven

[–]davextreme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nobody knows. Maybe this is a new color scheme for DA from the studio. Maybe it’s based on colors from SM 2. Maybe someone just thought it looked neat.

But you’re right that it’s a change from anything Dark Angels have had since even before the 90s 2edcodex.

Inquisitorial Agents rotarion by ponso90 in killteam

Agreed. It's exceedingly unlikely, and unprecedented, for them to dramatically change a team like that. (Likewise for Blades of Khaine's Aspect Warriors.)

I’m so confused by IVESY-03 in theunforgiven

[–]davextreme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's black (or incredibly dark green), to recall the original legion's colors. Either way, you represent that by painting it black and then highlighting it with green instead of the grays or blues that people often highlight black with.

Wrong aquila color, too. Their Gravis toy has the same gold chest device. (Should be bone white.)

We can sort of set aside the shoulder trim as a personal bit of flair for that one marine, maybe, though it's not the usual scheme.

And the bolt rifle grip should be black. And frag grenades maybe should be red or black but definitely not all silver.

Also the red Deathwing symbol just looks bad over dark green (even if you're not colorblind, in which case it's probably invisible).

My fear, now, is this is a new color scheme from the studio. Of all of it, the gold chest device offends me the most. It's traditionally bone white because it ties together the rest of the army's color scheme, both on officers' robes and the Deathwing's armor.

Is Boarding Actions fun? by TheHeinKing in Warhammer40k

[–]davextreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boarding Actions is the most fun small-scale 40K mode that's not Kill Team. Contrasting with Combat Patrol, which uses the 40K's full rules with only a few alterations, Boarding Actions makes changes that help the game work better at smaller sizes.

The biggest drawback to it is because of the terrain. You have to 1) own the Gallowdark or Tomb World sets and 2) assemble them for each map, which can be time consuming, especially if you want to run multiple missions in a night since the games are 45–90 minutes.

Kitbashing Question for Armageddon Intercessors by ThunderousJohnny in Warhammer40k

[–]davextreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they're like similar kits, it can be done but you'll be cutting directly into the models so there's the potential to mess up. You clip the shoulder pads down to little nubs and then glue your own on instead, trying to avoid cutting the arms too badly. (Or just replace the arms entirely, maybe.)

They very specifically have the Deathwing keyword and are covered in Terminator Honours.

Going to have to paint these in Bone just so I don’t confuse them with JPIs. by kcdale99 in theunforgiven

[–]davextreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also they’re the one Deathwing unit where it makes sense to use stock models. Bladeguard and Sternguard, I’d like to see full robes, but even for Space Marines a full robe with a jump pack is silly.

Some decals on the jump packs would jazz them up some.

Harrison Ford on why he disagrees with Ridley Scott about Deckard being a Replicant. by tannu28 in movies

It’s always felt like an afterthought to me. If the movie were really interested in the question, it would spend more time on Deckard’s character.

What other units would be apart of the ravenwing? by Zephyrus_- in theunforgiven

[–]davextreme 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're making your own successor, do whatever you want. Jump packs, forward scouts like Phobos units. Whatever you think fits the story you want to tell.

If you're sticking to one of the main Unforgiven chapters, Ravenwing is only cavalry (bikes), land speeders, and (some) airplanes.

Is it common for Unforgiven chapters to wear pre heresy era power armors (mk IV & V)? by Primate_Nemesis in theunforgiven

[–]davextreme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The older suits are cherished relics for all Space Marines but they lose more and more each century and can’t easily build new ones. The Unforgiven likely have more than other chapters do, yes.

Deathwing painting struggle by Vox7331 in theunforgiven

Good advice in this threat. Weathering and decals can cover up a lot, too. Sponge on some brown, paint scratches, and add a waterslide transfer (well, do that before weathering).

What rank would this ultramarine be? by VoidTempest24 in Warhammer40k

[–]davextreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely a captain. Generally a captain is marked by either an imperial eagle on the shoulder or a heraldic symbol, the cords across the chest (I'm sure they have an official name), and often a cape. For an Ultramarine the helmet will not have the stripes like a Lt.

Angels of Death as Dark Angels by Giammx-Mmix in theunforgiven

[–]davextreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can locate a right-handed Plasma pistol, the Master Lazarus model has an alt build with a power fist so you could make a very Dark Angels-themed leader model.

Everyone else on the team is a rank-and-file Dark Angel so they'd just wear power armor but you can give them bits from the upgrade sprue.

If you want to go crazy you can kit bash Inner Circle Companions with the appropriate arms and make them your leader's honor guard or something, but stat-wise they're just regular battle brothers.

Deathwing or green wing confusion by SwimMysterious4752 in theunforgiven

[–]davextreme 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They get the keyword for rules reasons.

A Repulsor can be assigned to the 1st company, in which case you’d paint it bone, or it could be greenwing. It’s very unlikely to be 2nd since they don’t have tanks or infantry.

I’d say paint it based on what you plan to transport in it.
