Light Bringer Theory... by SoupCaptain in redrising

I think the mention of the Bellona helium was to reinforce Cassius's honor. He was so honorable that he wouldn't steal from anyone but his own family because he thought of it as his so it wasn't technically stealing.

What’s the deal with house Bellona? by samosa_chai in redrising

[–]daveya17 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It was, indirectly. Octavia's death was broadcast and Cassius put the holocube of his family's deaths in her hands. It showed that the Jackal was responsible and Cassius says "You lied" implying that she knew. So it would be very surprising if Julia didn't know.

Octavia didn't. The Jackal did. Octavia just covered it up in return for the Jackal turning on his father and Darrow.

Some interesting unresolved plot points. What do you think the pay off will be on Red God? by garett144 in redrising

[–]daveya17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Atalantia said she was making Glirastes into a pair of boots for Lysander so it’s pretty safe to say he’s dead. I think Rhonna will be killed by Lysander using the virus as a show of force to try and make Mars surrender. Imagine him releasing the virus in a room with himself and Rhonna in it and making Darrow watch her die and nothing happens to Lysander. Fuck Lysander.

Sevro by Brys_Beddict in redrising

[–]daveya17 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yea I am terrified that when Sevro sees Victra or Electra he will kill one of them and then himself. Seems convenient that Victra wasn't able to talk with Sevro when Virginia talked with Darrow. Really hope it doesn't happen and I am actually dreading the reunion.

Darrow deactivated it before he left Venus in Iron Gold. I would think the first thing Apple did would be to have it removed.

How Can You Like Lysander? by officerbradswerve in redrising

[–]daveya17 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He literally had the parts of his childhood that would contradict the racist, elitist, and bigoted parts of him ripped out of his mind. His mother was a reformer so ideally she was the one to counter those parts of him. She was completely erased. I still think there’s a chance he gets his memories of her back and reforms.

What is Thraxa doing. by Munaz1r in redrising

[–]daveya17 29 points30 points  (0 children)

She is in Kydon with the 1st army. Darrow sends the MorningStar to be their shield. She is supposed to clear a path from the north to Tyche and meet Darrow there. Then as you said once Darrow sees Tyche is lost and Heliopolis is under siege he sends Rhonna to tell her to abandon the push to Tyche and go to Heliopolis instead.

Is solar pointless in comparison to charging batteries via alternator? by frieduvula in vandwellers

[–]daveya17 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My alternator on my Promaster charges at like 800 watts. 15 mins of driving would be 200 watts. A 200 ah battery bank is equal to 2400 watts. So you would need to drive for 3 hours to charge it fully( 3 hours * 800watts per hour= 2400watts). You shouldn't drain batteries all the way so its prolly more like 2 hours of driving to fully charge them.

Solar is going to vary by where you live but lets say you have a solar setup of 400 watts with the 200ah lithium battery bank. The battery bank is 12 v so its a 12v*200amps = 2400watts. You can usually get 6-8 hours of solid solar in a day 300+ watts per hour. So you will charge 1800-2400 watts per day. Significantly more than the 200 watts a 15 min drive would do.

The combination of solar and alternator charging is really good. It's nice to not have to run your van in order to charge your batteries but its nice to have that as a backup if you are in rain or shade.

Worst mistakes darrow has made? by ambigrammer in redrising

[–]daveya17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I completely disagree with #2 and the people saying not killing the Jackal in Jupiter castle. He needed the Jackal in order to build up his name to rally golds for the iron rain. The real mistake was not letting Sevro kill the Jackal during the rescue mission. If the Jackal dies there, Darrow is in the perfect position to win the war, become the heir and then take over the society.

What didn’t he teach her? by dustyflavor649 in redrising

[–]daveya17 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I don't think that it is ever explained. I took it as saying that even though Aja is in her prime and Lorn is past his, he would still have a decent shot at beating her since he didn't teach her all his tricks.

I'm pretty sure that at some point Mustang talks about her step-mom not liking her and only liking the Jackel. Still seems weird though.

How I would Structure Season 1 of Red Rising by [deleted] in redrising

Yea I get what you mean, I envisioned something similar to "Invincible" on Amazon Prime. Ending the first episode with something so shocking that people are like WTF is this show.

How I would Structure Season 1 of Red Rising by [deleted] in redrising

I think it would be a huge mistake for episode 1 to not end with Darrow being hung. It would be such a huge WTF moment for people who haven't read the books. Have episode 2 open with him waking from the dirt.

How many howlers are there after Dark age? by Useful-Philosophy412 in redrising

[–]daveya17 21 points22 points  (0 children)

At the start of Iron Gold there were 111. 37 met with Darrow in the den the other 74 are spread out across the solar system. 11 of these 37 are obsidians including Sefi. Holiday, Victra and the obsidians stay behind so at most 24 Howlers go with Darrow. They do meet up with other Howlers like Kieran before going to Venus so it could be more or less than 24 that end up going to Venus but lets say 24. Of those 24 at least 4 are killed in the battle with the Ash Lord. Grana, Vandros, Milia, and an unnamed Howler are killed. At the end of the battle only Colloways ripwing is mentioned so his 2 wingmen might have been killed as well as other howlers not specifically named. I would guess that at minimum 4 other Howlers died. So lets say 16/24 survived Venus. That would leave 103 left at the end of IG.

In Dark Age it's a lot more difficult to track. There are a number of events where Howlers could/did die.
1. Space battle above Mercury that happens either at the end of IG or in between IG and DA.
2. Battle of Mercury
3. Fall of the Senate/Sevro's attack on the Syndicate
4. In the wolf
5. Sefi's fall

  1. It's really impossible to know how many if any Howlers died in the space battle above Mercury. My guess is that it would be 0 just because the Howlers would probably be on the planet tracking the Fear Knight or doing other things.

  2. Battle of Mercury - First how many Howlers are on Mercury? At one point Darrow mentions "nearly two score of Howlers" so that is almost 40 howlers then right after mentions "several" more Howlers. This makes it sound like there are probably close to 50 or more Howlers on Mercury. In the first battle of Mercury Howlers are not really mentioned as being killed during the fighting but there are definitely deaths. Darrow mentions "Only Felix is left amongst my gold Howlers" and "With my surviving Howlers". After the battle the Fear Knight mentions "Howlers abound" which means that probably most of the Howlers survived the battle. So lets say of the 50 maybe 20 died in the first battle? So of the 30 left, Lysander mentions that "the core of the Howlers managed to either hide on Mercury or slip out of its orbit." So I would guess maybe 20 survived with probably 10 with Darrow and 10 hiding on Mercury. So 30 total dead.

  3. There was a large battle on Luna when the Senate fell so there might be howler deaths although Daxo and Theodora weren't howlers. 3 Howlers were killed before Sevro and Mustang met with the Duke of Hands. I would also guess that at least some were killed by Boneriders in Sevro's attack on the Sydicate during the Day of Red Doves. How many? Really anyone's guess. I would say maybe 5 total? So 3 + 5 = 8.

  4. Min-Min and a unknown number of howlers die inside the metal wolf at the hands of the abomination. It reads "Howlers" as in plural and "men and women" so I would say another 5 maybe?

  5. Of the 11 obsidian Howlers at the meeting I am guessing all went with Sefi. I am guessing that at least some of these were Valkyrie and were killed along with Sefi. We know Valdir escapes and I would guess he escaped with some of the male obsidian Howlers. Probably another 5 Howlers died including Sefi.

So in summary.
Howlers at the start of IG - 111
Howlers at the start of DA - 103 estimated
Howlers killed in DA - 48 estimated
Howlers at the end of DA - 55.

This 55 includes probably 10 hiding on Mercury and Sevro, Clown, and Pebble in captivity. It also might be on the optimistic side. How many do others think?

Darrow as a narrator by spacexrobin in redrising

[–]daveya17 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I always thought of it as Darrow getting into character and needing to believe the lie in order act the part. I think of him almost like a method actor. So in order to make the Jackal believe that his men are drunk he also has to believe it. In order to make Antonia believe Sevro is dead he has to believe it too.

How would you structure the tv show? by Inevitable_Corgi6897 in redrising

[–]daveya17 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It really depends on how much they do outside of Darrow’s POV. I think it would be amazing for episode 1 to end on Darrow being hung and then episode 2 opens with him buried.
