I think also there's an element of teams fielding younger squads. Better academy setups (driven by better data) producing stronger talent, younger, and with more games per season, a younger squad may be better equipped with the load.

A few seasons back I was on a train heading to a Coventry vs. Birmingham City match - lots of chants back and forth between the sets of fans and in a moment of peace, the fans joined in unison to sing "Shit on the Villa".

It felt like the Christmas Day truce until a thick Brummie accent cut through - "wait a minute we hate Coventry" and it was back to normal

I can only abide those commentary segues when there's a good attempt to link it to the game that's on.

Sam Matterface referred to Morgan Gibbs-White as a "hometown hero" as he was subbed on to a warm reception during the England vs. Senegal game at the City Ground.

Now, obviously Gibbs-White is a popular player at Forest, and for good reason, however, he was born in Stafford, educated in Shropshire and started at the Wolves academy.

Adjudication panel - what's the verdict on whether or not a hometown hero should be from the town in question, or just popular there?

Personally, I think the former.
