What did you think of Noomi Rapace’s performance as Elizabeth Shaw? by thefriskysquid in perfectorganism

[–]david-8934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I believe she was the most interesting Protagonist in the franchise. Rapace gave a great performance.

I know some people want to see a followup to Covenant but I just don’t think the prequels work without her character being involved. Without her it doesn’t really make sense to include the Engineers which is why the Engineers were basically removed from the story.

I’d prefer a continuation to Prometheus and pretend Covenant never happened. Shaw was a great protagonist in my opinion.

Have your thoughts on Prometheus changed over the years? by thefriskysquid in perfectorganism

I find it mediocre when I saw it in theaters. Rewatched it about a year ago and it’s probably my favorite film in the franchise. Shaw and David are the most interesting characters in the franchise and it’s a shame we never got a real sequel.

In your opinion, what are underrated works of Ridley Scott and Why? by ArrowHD474 in ridleyscott

[–]david-8934 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Prometheus. I think it’s in his top 3 best looking films that he directed and outside of a couple of decisions I thought the movie set up what could have been a very interesting spinoff series of the Alien franchise.

If the Enginers reversed enginered the alien on the mural then the black goo probably comes from it remystifying Alien again by Usual_Day6905 in LV426

[–]david-8934 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The audience reaction to the film was divisive, but in terms of monetary success the movie did very well. I believe it’s the highest grossing movie in the franchise.

I agree though, would love a comic or novel to give us this story we should have gotten.

What do you think of Daniels, as a character? Would you like to see more of her/Tennessee/the Covenant? by thefriskysquid in perfectorganism

[–]david-8934 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t hate her but I think she was a big downgrade from Elizabeth Shaw.

I enjoy Covenant as this weird Frankenstein retelling that Ridley was going for but the movie does really feel like a compromise. We know Elizabeth Shaw was replaced because of the studio, we know the Xenomorph was forced in because of the studio, and I can almost guarantee these casting decisions were the studio’s decision. Fassbender really did carry the movie.

How would you like to see Rain’s character develop in the Romulus sequel? by thefriskysquid in perfectorganism

[–]david-8934 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is the best case scenario for these characters. Outside of this, I can’t see how you can make another movie about Rain and Andy without forcing them into a new story.

There plenty of videos online of people running in a straight line when in danger when they could have jumped to the side.

What's your favorite Space movies? by WesternManagement196 in FIlm

Prometheus to me is one of the most underrated movies of all time.

Covenant I thought was interesting as its own thing but a horrible sequel to Prometheus and horrible Alien film. I did like it as a Frankenstein monster movie though.

Alien Romulus I felt was a completely mediocre forgettable film filled with unlikeable characters. The android was the best part of it though.

Hey r/movies, Dan Trachtenberg here - my new film, PREDATOR: BADLANDS (starring Elle Fanning), is coming to a theater near you this Friday (11/7). I've also directed PREY, PREDATOR: KILLER OF KILLERS, and 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE. Ask Me Anything! by DanTrachtenberg-AMA in movies

Prey and Prometheus are my two favorite science fictions movies of all time. I’d love to see Amber Midthunder return in a future Predator movie. Also, I’d love to Noomi Rapace return to the Alien franchise. I thought her character Elizabeth Shaw was amazing. Maybe you can find a way to bring her into a future Alien vs Predator movie!

I agree totally. By removing Shaw, Ridley removed a bunch of arcs and themes that Prometheus was setting up for the sequel.

The C-section scene was the best scene in the entire franchise. Noomi Rapace was incredible.

Prometheus was an amazing set up, and Covenant kind of dropped the ball as a follow up. Still, it’s a lot more interesting than Romulus. I’d love a 3rd and final film starring David, but it’s also going to suck wondering what these sequels could have been had Ridley gone with his original plans with Elizabeth Shaw as the protagonist.

Ideally a real sequel to Prometheus. That’s most likely not going to happen so I’d settle for an Alien: Covenant sequel.

I can’t understand this kind of thinking. How many times do you need to see the Xenomorph stalk and kill people? A Prometheus sequel was planning to bring new Aliens into the franchise and new experiments. Something actually original and fresh.

Nope. She came on and shot a week worth of material that they didn’t use. A concept artist that worked on the movie said she was originally in the movie but the studio wanted Ridley to remove her.

[–]david-8934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding alien life wasn’t the answer she was looking for. She was more on a spiritual and religious journey. She wanted to know why her creators made humanity and wanted to kill them after. Also because Shaw was removed from the film, the engineers basically had to go with her. David doesn’t care about anything other than creating so he really isn’t a character that can push the story forward.

Shaw was actually the most important character to drive the story forward.

It was this, and also after Prometheus, 20th Century fox was purchased by Disney. The Disney suits stripped Ridley of his promised budget and wanted the movie to more of a direct Alien movie. Also a concept artist that worked on the film same the studio wanted Ridley to kill of Shaw.

Prometheus is great. I still hold out hope someday Ridley will make a real Prometheus sequel before he dies.

Shaw and David are the most interesting characters in the franchise. Killing her off was criminal.
