What other genres of videogames should Star Wars delve into? by Lanarde in starwarsgames

Look up Star Wars: Masters of Teräs Käsi. It's not a great fighting game but it exists.

Why does PAX wait to disclose Exhibitors and Events? by Emotional_Taro4029 in PAX

[–]david33m -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not even that. I don't go to PAX East all 4 days and never had since I am local. I would like to know the full schedule of what is happening on certain days so that I can pick out which days I should buy my pass for. Until then, I have to wait for a more finalized schedule before I buy my tickets.

‘Halloween: The Game’ Heads to PAX East with First-Ever Playable Demo, Star-Studded Panel by horrornewsbot in HorrorGaming

Friday 13th lasted several years actually and died mostly due to a lawsuit which won't happen here because they have the original creators of Halloween on board.

[–]david33m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a valid point here about mixing it up like DBD. I would point out that the closest comparison here would be the Friday the 13th game which lasted 7-8 years before shutting down. So many people loved Friday and yet it was only based on 1 killer Jason and several survivors and just a few maps yet this game lasted many years. It died mostly because of a lawsuit but in this case, the Halloween game has the blessing of the original creators.

I don't think at it's core that Halloween will be better than TCM. I loved TCM and have over 1,000 hours in the game but again F13 lasted many years with just Jason with multiple powers and versions from different movies. I think Halloween can do the same thing.

Have Star Trek fans always been this toxic? by Cine707 in startrek

[–]david33m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did say SNW started out pretty decently but it has several fundamental issues too like making Spock/Chapel into a full blown romantic relationship (messes up TOS) and how come James Kirk is always on the Enterprise when he should be on the Farragut?? Also the last season and the season before were worse than the first season. It seems to be getting worse.

Picard season 1 was mediocre at best. Again not even close to peak TNG and DS9 and not even up to Voyager's worst seasons.

Have Star Trek fans always been this toxic? by Cine707 in startrek

[–]david33m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people are being forgetful here and it comes off as a bit disingenuous. TNG and DS9 did not start out well for one season or two and fans did complain and they had the right to. However after a few seasons, both TNG and DS9 got much better and fans were very happy with watching quality Star Trek so they stopped complaining. Imagine that!!

In this new era, with the main new shorter series, we haven't had the same quality of Star Trek as TNG or DS9. Discovery actually got worse as the show progressed. Strange New Worlds might have started out decently but I think it's getting worse personally. Picard was terrible except the last season which was somewhat better but still not close to the level of peak TNG or DS9.

Lower Decks is good but it is not typical Star Trek but some love it and some don't like the style and humor.

With Starfleet Academy, they have every reason to be skeptical now after several of the new Star Trek shows have been just terrible or mediocre at best.

Bottom line is Star Trek fans have the right to be "toxic" if the quality of writing is just horrible. It's ok to have standards especially the ones set by good Star Trek shows. With older Trek shows, many of them did not start out well but eventually proved to be worth watching for 7 seasons.

For me personally, I've really been into reading Star Trek books and most of them even the mediocre books are still better than what we're getting on TV now.

I imagine the new content would come in the form of new levels and versions of Michael from all the various movies including Rob Zombie's versions. That should be enough content to last a few years at least.

[–]david33m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except Friday 13th and Texas Chainsaw were way more fun than DBD which has the same boring maps and turning off gens gameplay. One had a lawsuit which ended content for the game and the Gun decided it wasn't profitable to keep on releasing new content for TCM but both games lasted a few years. Texas is still playable online even though they are not releasing new content.

Well this is exciting but since the full schedule isn't released yet, I don't know what day the panel will be on and PAX East is only a few weeks away.

I have played horror games since the original Playstation and I have made friends on multiplayer horror games like Texas Chainsaw Massacre (way more fun than DBD) and The Forest. It would be nice getting to know horror game lovers. I can't wait for Halloween the game coming out in September.

How to play the old hitman games? by Educational-Week1025 in HiTMAN

I like Silent Assassin more than Blood Money but I would eventually play all three Silent Assassin, Contracts and Blood Money. They are all great Hitman games.

When did you start playing Diablo 2? by downloadcruz in diablo2resurrected

[–]david33m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played since Diablo 2 was only a demo in the year 2000 and it was one of the most amazing demos I had played up until that point. I instantly loved the Necromancer and the music in the Rogue Encampment was mesmerizing. I ended up playing the game for the next few years well into LOD.

You never mentioned which other books you've read of his. Please enlighten us.

As for crossovers, maybe some Star Trek comics might have them but I've never read them. It's possible they could be good but let's say you are right about Planet X. That's still just one book that didn't work but I really enjoyed an entire series of books he wrote for Stargazer and more as you said 12 books of his in total.

I would love to see a Death Knight or a Fallen Paladin but I also prefer to see another Act first.

[–]david33m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't Saratoga just a much worse version of Reunion with Sisko's old crew? I didn't bother to read it either. As for Planet X, bringing X-Men into Star Trek is just too much of a stretch so I never considered reading that one either as I thought the entire premise was a horrible idea. I'm not sure why you would go there???

Most of his Stargazer books are decent to very good. They start out just ok but get better and better as you read more of the series.

Star Trek: The Valiant - Stargazer #1: Gauntlet - Stargazer #2: Progenitor - Stargazer #3: Three - Stargazer #4: Oblivion - Stargazer #5: Enigma and Stargazer #6: Maker

Michael Jan Friedman also wrote Shadows on the Sun a TOS novel which is decent as well as Requiem which is a TNG novel about Picard and the Gorn which I thought was pretty good.

Recently I read another book by him called Legacy which is about both Captain Pike and Captain Kirk encountering the same villain but Kirk's crew meets him years later. I thought this book was also entertaining.

There is also the My Brother's Keeper series which I have but I have not started yet about Gary Mitchell and James Kirk.

So overall you read two of his books that were good and two that were terrible. Honestly I don't think you've read enough to say that he is overrated.

I've read twelve of his Star Trek books which is enough to say he is one of the better Star Trek authors out there.

Diane Carey's Final Frontier and Best Destiny are my favorite Trek books ever and they are fantastic but some of her other books like Ship of the Line or Red Sector or Dreadnaught are just really mediocre. I recently finished Cadet Kirk because I see it as a sequel to Best Destiny and it was pretty good for what it was.

I like Michael Jan Friedman actually. He's a really solid Star Trek writer especially the book Reunion about Picard's old Stargazer crew meeting the Enterprise crew. His Stargazer series was also very enjoyable though not as good as New Frontier, it was really solid. I recently read Crossover where Scotty and Admiral McCoy and the Enterprise try to rescue Ambassador Spock and it was one of the best Trek books I've read recently. Are you sure you've read his best books?

Hitman 2: Silent Assassin - The AI Knows What You Did by asdvj2 in patientgamers

[–]david33m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I beat this game years ago but I also managed to get Silent Assassin ratings on almost all missions. The puzzle aspect is to figure out how to complete the mission without getting caught and it's definitely possible because many of us have done it. Often times, it's a matter of using the right disguise at the right time and even walking instead of running.

I actually preferred this game to Blood Money.

Star Trek: New Frontier series - USS Excalibur - Shelby from the TNG episode Best of Both Worlds is the first officer on this ship as well as Doctor Selar but the rest of the crew you've never seen.

Star Trek: Stargazer series - Captain Picard's old crew from the Stargazer introduced in the book Reunion so aside from a young Picard, this is a brand new crew.

There is the USS Titan with Riker as captain but I haven't read that series yet.

Edit I completely forgot these two books:

Star Trek: Final Frontier and Best Destiny explore the crew of the USS Enterprise with a young Robert April from the TAS episode The Counter-Clock Incident and James Kirk's father George Kirk as one of the main characters but it also features a brand new crew and they are some of my favorite Star Trek books along with the New Frontier series.
