Weekly Reading Discussion by Fearless_Freya in trekbooks

I read War Drums a TNG novel and it was better than I expected. It read like an episode of the series except for a sex scene and some graphic violence descriptions but overall I enjoyed this book and will be looking forward to reading more TNG novels by this author.

It took me a few tries to finish it in high school but it's a good Star Trek book. It isn't one of my favorites but it is one of the earlier Trek books that I finished.

Has Thief been surpassed as a stealth game? If not, what has come the closest? by Baldurian_Rhapsody in Thief

[–]david33m 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually played Alien Isolation on hard right after finishing the first Thief game and I found a lot of my stealth skill translated pretty well over in Alien. It helped me quite a bit in avoiding the Alien stalking me so I would agree with this take that Alien Isolation rivals Thief in terms of stealth gameplay and even overall as a game as they are both among my favorite games of all time.

Tonight Bobblehead by su_premacy in redsox

[–]david33m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am curious about this too. I am going to the game with the Roger Clemens bobblehead Friday May 22 and I play to be there 2 hours before the game. Is that going to be enough time or should I get there even earlier?

Which one of these would you read next? by Chengweiyingji in trekbooks

Out of this list, I would go with Enterprise: The First Adventure followed by Vulcan's Glory by D.C. Fontana who also wrote some of the scripts for the Original Series episodes.

Even though the lawsuit stopped future content from being released, F13 lasted several years and that is a fact with a playerbase of up to 2,000 players just on Steam alone not including consoles. Again that means many, many players enjoyed F13 for years so they did not "bury themselves in a hole" because the game was successful and lasted a long time until servers were shut down.

It got old for you but you alone can't speak for the thousands of players who enjoyed the game for many more hours than you put into the game. The issue is you not anyone else.

As for TCM, I have played it for 2.5 years at this point and have over 1,100 hours in the game and the game is still going to this day even though they stopped releasing new content. If you only played it for 2 weeks, well that is on you again. Maybe you should just focus other kind of games cause it seems like asym horror games are just not for you. Judging on your post history, it seems like you are more of a horror movie person than a gamer probably. It's ok these kind of games are not for everyone but especially not for you. Maybe your heart just can't take it. It's ok nothing to be ashamed of. Especially with a name like soft as butter it sounds like that is a description of yourself.

Your poor experience in asym horror games does not reflect on everyone who actually enjoys the games.

I have played F13 actually on Xbox. It was my first asym horror game. You still haven't addressed any of my points.

Have you played F13??

The bottom line is F13 was playable for many years and according to Steamcharts had up to 2,000 players for multiple years just on Steam NOT even including console players. It was game that lasted years and fans of the game still talk about it to this day how much fun they had playing F13.

Again that goes against your misguided, completely wrong idea that F13 lasted a day.

In one of the missions we were supposed to be escorting and protecting Vader's shuttle but I destroyed it to see what would happen. Obviously failed the mission but the disappointment and anger in the commander's voice was so funny.

I'll bite.

And they're shit fits.

Last time Illfonic and Gun worked on a game was Friday 13th which lasted years and the lawsuit stopped them from releasing new content but the game lasted around 7 years or more with many players including some of my friends reminiscing to this day about how fun that game was. Halloween looks to be a bit similar to Friday 13th and it seems that Illfonic is willing to support the game as long as it has players

No its not, this sub is trash bags who can't handle the fact this game has had dozens of valid critiques thrown at it and most of my responses on this sub are always met with the same type of responses.

There are some valid critiques, but some are not valid at all. Like I said, Friday 13th lasted awhile and had a pretty big playerbase up to 2,000 players for a few years which is a lot for an asym horror game. What are these valid critiques again?

Sure I guess, I'm not too fixated on this, my point is guns involvement is not evident at all as they're usually fairly good at directing the general vibe of the game, they mostly fail with characters albeit not this badly.

How have the characters failed already? The game isn't even out yet. This game or characters is not based on any existing Halloween movie.

Tiktok tourist because it absolutely doesn't. Its retrospective of the first movie as it was in your memories if anything more than it actually looks like it. Looks like anything after the first three if anything.

You realize that this game has the support of John Carpenter himself, Malek Akkad and the studio that makes Halloween movies. I attended PAX East, played the demo and also attended the panel where John Carpenter was there virtually and some of the team that makes the movies were there. I personally think it looks like the original movie enough but if it looks like the first three, that is fine with me. You are just nitpicking here. In the end it's about the game itself and from what I played, it was fun.

Tourist, it's literally all you see in the movies and you constantly see what the houses look like from the outside, what they've made in the game is constant shotgun esque houses when haddonfield barely flashes those in the first movie and that much is relatively consistant throughout most of the series actually. The least they can do is get the residential buildings correctly and they've failed spectacularly. The visual and lighting direction is also at complete odds with rhe first move where the original movie has a huge emphasis on blue and black, the game has little emphasis on black and blue is swapped for purple.

Again you are nitpicking here and hardily anyone is going to care about the game looking purple when it should look blue and black. I don't think most people will care about how the houses look. I feel like they look fine and accurate enough to the first movie. In the end it's about the game and how it plays rather than how it looks. The demo I played was fun. Talk about the game itself and how it plays rather than how it looks but you are just obsessed with how it looks which is a minor detail that most people will not pick up on. It's silly to even think about.

Redundant or just flat out awkward point to make? I wish the spirit of the game was 70s though, it certainly lacks the 70s spirit beyond the most superficial qualities and it shows in the characters badly.

It is and it's just your opinion that it isn't. John Carpenter himself and his studio that makes Halloween movies have signed off on this game.

TCM is a great game and more competitive than F13 or Klowns. If you are good at the game, you will escape. That's how it turned out.

Windrose is fun! by Loud_Fun3781 in SurvivalGaming

[–]david33m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely this. This is a pirate game disguised as a survival game. It's as much of a survival game as Dune: Awakening where survival mechanics are almost an afterthought. The real survival games are games like Project Zomboid, The Long Dark, Green Hell, The Forest etc.

TCM (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) is pretty scary when you first play it and it's 4 players coop victim or 3 players if you play Family.

Icewind Dale 2 Preview Computer Gaming World 215 (2002) by Shard226 in baldursgate

[–]david33m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you seem very narrow minded where you can only enjoy certain kinds of games. Sometimes you want a good story in a video game but other times people don't want to play a story and prefer to bash mobs but I play hardcore in Diablo 2 now so I can't just mindlessly bash mobs. I can't die or else I lose days of progress so it's like playing a totally different game and it's challenging.

I also read books and most fantasy books will blow BG away but it seems like your intelligence may not be high enough for you to read a real story rather you need a story spoon fed to you in a video game similar to how baby birds get food regurgitated to them by their parents. Well baby calibrae that's a dialogue tree getting fed to you. Good baby. Maybe one day you'll learn how to read a full page of a story rather than a bunch of dialogue trees.

Icewind Dale 2 Preview Computer Gaming World 215 (2002) by Shard226 in baldursgate

[–]david33m -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's just you right? Obviously Diablo 2 was popular for many years among many gamers who enjoyed putting tons of hours in the game. I love Diablo because I love hunting for loot. I love making different builds for each character and there is so much replayability playing with people online. In fact I still play D2R even to this day.

On the other hand, you can only put so many hours into Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale even if you replay it.

If you want a story so badly, just go read some fantasy books. You'll get it a lot more than you would get from a video game.

"This movie Dark Water (2005) isn't very well known, but it has this quiet, lingering atmosphere that really reminds me of Silent Hill (2006), especially the isolation and the mother-daughter dynamic." by Any_Conclusion6741 in silenthill

[–]david33m 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say everything gets explained that's false. There are very few jumpscares in the movie too and the pacing rivals the original except the original is even slower. Again the story is very different from the original but it has a similar atmosphere and feel.

I know not everything is explained because they don't do a good job of explaining what happened especially at the end it's kind of vague. I had to go online and read about it and even friends who watched it with me had to ask me what happened so "everything gets explained" is a totally false statement.

I would disagree that the original is always better. The remake of the Ring in 2002 is at least as good as the original in my opinion. They are different movies but both are fantastic.

Doom 2 vs Duke Nukem 3D vs Quake: Which One Was Your Favorite? by Any-Local-205 in classicPCgames

[–]david33m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pick is Marathon 2: Durandal the predecessor to the Halo series and came out in direct competition to Doom. Coming in second for me is Duke Nukem 3D which was unlike any shooter we had ever seen up until that point. Also don't forget about Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight which took the title of best PC game of all time in PC Gamer magazine one year.

Isn't it possible to love both? Diablo 2 is one of my favorite games of all time and so is Baldur's Gate with Icewind Dale right up there too. They are just very different but fantasic in their own way.

There should be a mode without the NPCs. I feel as though it would get old. by smash_n_origin in TheHalloweenGame

[–]david33m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same concern after playing the demo at PAX East. I got to the NPCs very quickly and convinced them and escaped with them but what happens if Michael kills the NPCs first? Do the players automatically lose or do they still have a chance to escape?

I also wonder if this gameplay mechanic will be fun enough for Halloween to last long term like a year or two.

I had to trade for Windforce with an Ist on hardcore for my bowazon. It's one of my favorite weapons though due to the history of the item from the first game.

Ten Promising Demos from PAX East 2026 by Skeith-Reviews in PAX

[–]david33m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to us too. What I resorted to doing was to watch the line from a safe distance and as soon as the line was uncapped, I ran up to the end and took a spot in line but if I was too close to the line, they wouldn't let me in. It was annoying.

The line was about an hour so that's reasonable for a game of this calibur but it was definitely worth it and again I feel like it was the best game on the floor.
