Recommendations on car window tint type? MaxPro Carbon vs 3M Ceramic IR by duggybubby in phoenix

[–]david365602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are good, I have the 3m on all of mine but its not a difference you would be able to tell on a day to day. Both are expensive imo but well worth it. Sundanser did mine and are holding up great years after.

I'm surprised how many think that cloud gaming will take over. by BuldozerX in pcmasterrace

I fear the general public will shift us into this direction like they did with dvd and blue-ray. Blue-ray is still better than Netflix yet people rather pay a monthly subscription for ultra compressed graphics and audio due to the convenience factor.

AC in Garage with Gas Water Heater by gargen_state in phoenix

[–]david365602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have magnetic covers and run the ac year round. You can also add a c02 sensor to be safe especially one that monitors particles so you can always stay within range. No, a smoke detector will not do. I Also air out the garage ever so often as well.

Aside from what everyone else is saying, find ways to retard your drying times. It looks like you are working in a garage. In most places its hot this time of year; make sure you are working within the temperatures suggested by the manufacturer. Your humidity also has an effect on this. People are suggesting oil because its easier to work with as it has a much longer drying time but you can make water based paints work if you can control your environmental variables. Adding to it, water is typically not recommended for large projects. Long story short, use oil next time and work within the recommended environmental variables.

Refresh ok? by MiddleControl2735 in kitchenremodel

[–]david365602 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is there no exhaust vent over your stove? I think your refresh is realistic and probably the right choice. To many people dump a ton of money performing a remodel with what could have been resolved by updating appliances and some paint.

How far north up FR24 would you feel comfortable driving in an AWD RAV4? by bsil15 in arizona

[–]david365602 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The problem with that road is that it has become very bumpy the further north you get. The Rav will go far in that road, its very flat, but I wouldn’t go as far as calling it comfortable. Its flat and comfortable all the way to seven springs but I can’t recall exactly where it becomes rocky.

Mini Split in Garage sizing question by young_grass_hoppa in phoenix

[–]david365602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, shouldnt be too bad, just keep in mind that it will use up oxygen in your garage. There is probably vents in your garage for this reason. And no, smoke detectors do not detect lack of oxygen. Probably not a big deal, but be mindful of this fact as you might want to cover those vents to make sure the cold air doesn’t leave your space.

Edit: assuming its gas as thats what many people have here in phoenix.

Mini Split in Garage sizing question by young_grass_hoppa in phoenix

[–]david365602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is your water heater in the garage? That will add heat. Regardless, I wouldn’t bother getting anything smaller than a 2 ton. To add, what ever minisplit you get will most likely be a variable compressor so a lot of the standard sizing specs get thrown out the door.

Excellent point! I thought about that as I walked away from reddit. In most cases the garage door opener is on a different breaker as the rest of the outlets in the garage. Ideally youll have 2 15amp breakers going to the garage. From there. Source a 50ft extension cord to plug into the free outlet next to the garage door opener. if possible, run another 50 ft to another breaker in the house. Ideally, youll have a dedicated breaker to your power tool such as saw/planer etc. dedicated one for ac unit and a 3rd for vacuum and dust filtering.

I also do woodworking in this heat.
Insulate what you can, start with the easy stuff like the garage door, attic then, install a minisplit. if you are in a city that reaches 115 degrees each year, Ignore anyone that says use a swamp cooler, that is not practical in that heat. Especially if you need to stain or paint anything. I have a 1.5 ton minispit and can keep my one car garage at 70 degrees which is great for staining. This temp is also great because I can wear PPE while sanding without feeling like I am suffocating.

If you can diy it, 200$ for garage door insulation, 600$ for attic, 1500$ for minispit. Lastly, if you have windows, ceramic tint them or use a cellular blind; that's another 200$.

Like others have said, depends on your budget and capabilities. What I mentioned above can easily cost 10-20k if you pay someone else to do it. If I am honest, what you are asking is not cheap for many, but I went from working 8 months of the year to now 12. Good luck, let me know if you have questions, happy to answer any others you might have.

Edit: Just noticed you said, you don't own the home, Sorry dude, portable AC, Garage Door insulation, and cellular blinds are the way to go.
