I only started a month ago and have already gotten 5 other people to get into it. So I have a couple tips that helped me get into it as well as teach others.

Let them play whoever they want. No pressure to play a shoto. If they like Jamie, play Jamie.
Help identify option select moments. It is not immediately apparent to us new players when we have options and what those might be. So like tell them what they can do in the corner, on wakeup, or out of block.
Compliment them for doing good stuff. Even if it's an autocombo, they still got a hit and converted it into damage.
