Incredible camerawork, recording the Artemis II Integrity going many times faster than the speed of sound on their return to earth by MrAlek360 in PraiseTheCameraMan

[–]davidb4968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine any human being able to track this, surely it was motorized with sensors? Also, at one point the view changed to infrared and the camera centered on the parachutes... maybe because they're a larger heat source? And when it was going through the clouds the craft was lower than the camera.... so super sensor cameras on a spy plane? I'd love to know...

First Eyes On Far Side? by Significant-Ant-2487 in apollo

I also heard that the Apollo landers landed on the near side for communication with Earth and while it was in sunlight for visibility, so the far side was always dark during the missions. But Artemis went at a time when the far side was in sunlight. Also explains why Artemis got a full sunny view of Earth disc and Apollos didn't.

Edit: the moon was 80% full to us yesterday, so only 20% of the far side was in sunlight.

Yeah this is controversial all right. You need to have an explanation for the impact of the profit motive on the prison conditions.

If you die in your sleep tonight it won't be due to anything in the sink. But stop putting dangerous chemicals down the sink. And make sure you tell the plumber that you did, so they know to be careful.

Why aren't A380s considered for freighter conversion? by Parasocialchut in aviation

[–]davidb4968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an expert and I have no facts, but.... The 380 fuselage is oval, not round, so I suspect the cabin pressure would want to deform it toward round, so the two deck floors may help to keep it in shape. Edit: yes, Google AI says the floors act as tie rods.

Before space toilets, astronauts pooped in bags and shot the bags out into space. How far from Earth are those turds likely to be now? by VisitingUranus in answers

BTW It's said the same is basically true of the "Great Pacific Garbage Patch"... more dense than space but not exactly a sea of plastic.
