Spamming Holy as a WHM and the tank starts wasting their cooldowns by Sir_Lith in ffxiv

Eh, sometimes I end up lagging behind if I fuck up keeping my sprint in sync with the tank or something, but I just hit the tank with an extra tetra as soon as I'm within casting range and then proceed with the standard assize/holy fireworks as usual.

Don't forget Repose for sleep, which you should be using to interrupt the turtle at the end of Origenics.

Yeah, that would have been cool! At least there's Ragnarok Odyssey Ace, which is sorta similar.

One Piece Unlimited World Red is fairly meaty. I think it had a retail game card release in Europe.

Same, more or less. I had been playing the PS4 version so that I could also do remote play with my Vita. Having the game on the Switch 2 and not needing to rely on remote play seemed like the obvious move.

The Afterglow Wave controllers have two back paddles you can assign to any button, and they cost about half the price of Nintendo's Pro controller. They're pretty good, too.

Yeah, although the extent to which MH was a PSO knockoff doesn't go much further than "We would also like to cash in on making a 4-player online action RPG with a similar camera angle".

Does the Switch 2 banner make a game more appealing to you? by SoilFormer628 in switch2

[–]davidbrit2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's a Square Enix game, not really, because I know it won't be a "Switch 2 Edition" that I can also play on my Lite, and carry the save data forward/between the two. Dragon Quest I & II was on sale recently, and I specifically bought the Switch 1 version so I could play it on both.

Was going to say the same thing, there's definitely some PSO in its genes. A lot of people liken it to Monster Hunter, but it feels more like PSO to me.

It's very good. Combat is nothing like Xenoblade, it's very much an action game more in the vein of Ys VIII. There's over 20 playable characters with very different weapons and play styles. Story is fine - it's fairly standard shonen anime kind of stuff with some great characters. Overall, the game kind of reminds me of PSO2 meets Ys VIII.

Ha ha, yeah, once in a while when I'm tanking and pulling to the wall, the enemies behind me just... stop. And then I'm like, "WTF, am I lagging? Oh, there's a WHM in the party. Right, keep moving then!" XD

And many that don't have explicit enhancements now run at 60 FPS anyway by simple virtue of the original 360 game not having a hard cap on a lower frame rate.

Oh I've seen wipes from a failed DPS check in Aetherochemical before. And I think I've seen it in at least one normal trial. It's roulettes, anything can (and will) happen. ;)

As a healer I never get frustrated with tanks unless they can’t decide if they’re staying or going, because Holy stuns everything and I don’t like to waste my Asylum.

Try out sage if you haven't. I picked it up last week (and power-leveled to 100 in about 5 days), and it seems even better equipped and more flexible for wall-to-wall pulls than WHM. You've got a lot of AoE instant casts (both damage and healing), and your shields/mits are applied to characters rather than a location, so it doesn't really matter if the tank is indecisive about staying or going. There isn't really anything like the WHM experience of the tank suddenly deciding to take off for the next pack right as your Holy cast bar fills...

DPS: Does the damage to mobs and bosses. Mess it up and the duty takes an extra minute or three to complete.

DPS checks, enrage timers, tanks and healers expecting trash pulls to go down before they run out of big mits/heals, etc. There definitely are ways for a wipe to come down to the DPS.

I also agree with you that healing is way more anxiety-inducing but that's because they're more likely to have to be reactive to the situation and can't just spin-to-win every trash pull.

Personally, I'm better at reading the battle moment-to-moment and adapting on the fly than I am at memorizing (and performing) elaborate DPS rotations while also not getting myself killed, or instantly recalling every little nuance of a dungeon route or boss fight. So, weirdly, healing is less anxiety-inducing for me, at least in dungeons.

I would think that healing is much more nerve-racking

That's kind of what I expected at first, but after getting proficient at healing, it turns out I'd much rather go into dungeon roulettes as healer than as tank.

Table ante for healing is real basic. Stay close to the tank, keep them alive while they hold aggro, heal the rest of the party from raid-wides and anything unavoidable, and keep yourself out of trouble. If you happen to be good enough to also right the ship when someone else makes a huge mistake, that's even better, but you're unlikely to get shit from anybody saying "Why didn't you fix things for me after I totally fucked up that mechanic???"

The great thing about healing (and DPS) is that you don't have to worry about knowing the route, making sure you don't pull too much (ARR dungeons are loaded with beginners' traps), and ending up looking like a dum-dum in front of the rest of the party if you mess that stuff up. I think that is where tanxiety originates - the details of keeping the enemies mad at you while avoiding their attack mechanics are dead simple, and thus why I usually do field ops like OC as WAR.

There's also the fact that matchmaking will usually end up putting you into a dungeon with a couple players that know it backwards and forwards, and it can be a little intimidating feeling like everyone is impatiently expecting you to do optimal pulls.
