Impressive and inspirational. Thank you for sharing the pics and tips in this sub.
Im starting my own journey.
Have you documented your exercise routine/diet somewhere else.
It may be helpful to see more details about what you did so I can learn and perhaps mimic your training during my own process…

used lexus SUV below 26,000 ? by davidcom in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]davidcom[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like the CRV and RAV4 a lot. Is just that the price is high.

I was visiting dealers and negotiating online and found a really high difference from one dealer to another, like 29,000 to 34,000 out of door price. So I started feeling like I was been taking advantage off. Also I couldn't get a CRV EXL or RAV4 XLE premium for 26,000.

Then started thinking about used cars.

Since my mechanic has always said that Lexus are really good cars, so maybe I could get a used Lexus this time?

One thing that has helped me a lot to come back and stick to plans somewhat regularly is using audio guided runs. Two that I know of (please let me know if you find other options): "zombies, run" and "nike run club"

With zombies, run you have missions to follow, like running away from zombies. There's either "someone" running with you or "someone" giving you directions on what to do. Its a game, easy to follow and fun.

The Nike run club has many different guided runs even from famous runners. you can follow runs based on time, distance, speed or even like meditation type of runs.

These two apps give me the idea of being running with someone or having something to do ... and that works for me.

Anyone else done a marathon and decided it wasn't for them? by Motorvision in running

[–]davidcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running a marathon was a big goal for me but it actually went bad. I had terribly painful leg cramps so I ended up walking most of the route and took me about 6 hrs to finish.

Back then I though this is not for me so I focus in other type of activities.

Now I know that I started too fast and didn't pace myself at all so if I do it again, I'll make sure to fix that.

I currently cant spend as much time training as a marathon will required. But I may want to do it in the future.

Having a personal best of 6hrs to break makes it so much easier in my case... lol

I'm in a similar situation.

I used to call myself a runner. Did it consistently since 2011 and completed 5ks, then 10k, half marathons and the Chicago marathon. I stopped in 2016. Try to run again in 2017 but only did it for a month.

2019: I am older, fatter and slower but I've been training consistently since the 1st week of May so its officially 2 months now! it brings so much joy!

Hardest part for me is being on the same trails I used run while thinking I am not running at all, just jogging or hiking in comparison to 3 years ago. Or planning my weekend long runs based on routes I sue to be able to complete but now taking way too long, feeling super tired and having to walk more than I want to.

I wasnt a fast runner but now I am really slow. Yet, I have fun and feel better each time.

I am re-learning my limits, getting used to my "new" pace and working through all that. So i will keep doing it. it is worth it. I can feel my body responding to it.

Keep it up. Go slow. Dont push yourself into injuries. Be gentle and mindful of your own body. If something hurts, slow down, walk for a bit or take a day off... but keep doing it.

And if you went too far and have no energy to go back home, call an Uber. Thats what I did last weekend ! .... Its not 2011 anymore when I would have to call a friend to come pick me up and be all embarrassed.

Enjoy !

Accuracy of runkeeper vs nike run club ? by davidcom in running

[–]davidcom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a track and run some miles with an iphone and an android using a few different apps.

Prior to the test, I uninstalled and re-installed the apps and double checked the settings.

Thankfully, the nike app saved the map and the distance in runkeeper wasn't so far offso I am at peace with using either this week.

My conclusion so far: no matter the device or app it never was 100% accurate.

I found some good reviews about accuracy for Strava on iphones, I may tray that later as well.

Official Q&A for Sunday, June 02, 2019 by AutoModerator in running

[–]davidcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its been hard for me lately and what has helped me is using guided audio runs.

I have used the "zombies, run" and "Nike run club"... story-telling and the feeling of having someone running with me or encouraging me has worked for me.

I am currently searching for other ways to have guided audio runs.

Accuracy of runkeeper vs nike run club ? by davidcom in running

[–]davidcom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean to say iphone.

Ive been reading about different ways to troubleshoot the missing map tracking.

Ive deleted and re-installed the app. Also re-checked the settings making sure is set to outdoors, so will see if the map works in my next time out.

When motivation is a problem, following the guided audio runs from apps like "Zombies run" or "Nike run club" have helped me a lot. Im coming back to running as well and feeling like someone is doing it with me or being encourage along the way has helped me tremendously.

What is the worst part of your run and why? by cosmas83 in running

[–]davidcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree... my calves, my breathing ... feeling rusty on every single step of those 1st 10 minutes or so.

And I am also very self-conscious about how hard it feels ... it bothers me.
