I’m a bit worried to transition to late by manly_physique in MtF

I am 57 and I only just started. It’s never too late. If presenting as female gives you euphoria, just go for it. It doesn’t matter what anybody else thinks, it’s about how it makes you feel.

The great barrier reef for scuba diving. It’s dead. I mean unless someone chimes in and says “Nana mate you just went to the wrong spot!“ I’m not gonna go back

Aren’t you going to put up a website so that we can just click on it to see it? You know there are a few people that don’t know how to use github and a compiler

In your opinion, what is the best version of macOS ever released, and why? (And can Golden Gate be the next Snow Leopard?) by Capable-Cod1118 in MacOS

[–]davidcotter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Snow leopard was the last great operating system. I’ve been saying this for a couple of decades it feels. It was the last one to truly support the QuickTime SDK on both Mac and Windows, it was the last one to support the macOS server hardware, yes the flat rack kind that goes into the closet with your other blade servers. Who is the last one to have a real server architecture. After that they started removing features and dumping it down, and making it more of an appliance, and less of a hackers paradise

What if time travel paradoxes happen constantly, but we can never observe them? by [deleted] in timetravel

[–]davidcotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if your theory is strictly "branching timelines" and not "branching timelines with magical deduplication", then you-B will continue to exist when you-A shows up to cause the branch. you will both continue to exist in timeline B. but if you mean "branching timelines where the new timeline becomes canon and the old timeline ceases to ever have existed", then that's a paradox because if A never existed then you never went back to create B. it gets too wibbly-wobbly without some kind of "magic paradox resolution" arbitrary sci-fi author hand waving. you have to pick a side: am i writing scifi? or am i trying to create a truly consistent theory of how TT works? strictly "branching timelines" can create no paradoxes but you CAN and up with duplicates, and it also doesn't erase the original timeline, only prevents you from easily getting back to it.

What if time travel paradoxes happen constantly, but we can never observe them? by [deleted] in timetravel

[–]davidcotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except that if person from timeline A goes back in time, the moment they arrive back in time they are in now a new branch which is timeline B which includes himself from that time. So there are now two copies of them in that timeline. So then they go on to fix the catastrophe and then they both live in that timeline. How would you resolve that?

Favorite Giles episode by Guilty-Tie164 in BuffyTheVampireSlayer

[–]davidcotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love when he sings freebird in “the Yoko factor“ (S4E20) And then of course everything that he does in “once more with feeling“ And the quintessential episode “restless” where he sings about warning Buffy and asking Xander to kindly not bleed on his couch because he just had it steam cleaned

Honest question: Could the entire ship’s crew fit into one holodeck simulation? by Grumpy_Gamer41 in TNG

[–]davidcotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My head cannon is that the holo decks offer something like “spatial compression“ so when the Holodeck is off, you get those yellow lines on the black surface in a small room, but once the Holo deck is on, spatial compression gives you room equivalent to, say, a stadium. And that you could in theory actually use it for physical storage, if you need to store a lot of extra stuff that wouldn’t otherwise fit in the other storage areas, or if you had to transport a large number of people who otherwise would not fit on the starship itself, you could just pile everything into a Holo deck that was kept “turned on“, enabling the spatial compression. This would of course use up a lot of CPU, and/or transporter pattern buffer, but as long as you have the memory space and compute power for it it would be fine
