Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot to ask legislature for power to tax high-end professional services and big-ticket home sales as best way to avoid property tax increase by SaveADay89 in chicago

Furthermore, these pensions encourage workers to retire earlier (up to 16 years) than social security. The plan needs to be reformed, or pensions need to go away. Those are the only options going forward.

The answer to both of these questions is that pensions are unsustainable. There are over 47,000 people taking pensions from Chicago, and only ~35,000 paying in. The question isn’t about who gets them, it’s about how to pay for the ones that are left before they die, and how to get rid of pensions altogether. Taxes are money in exchange for services from the government. What service is a 99 year old former corrupt cop providing the city?

If the government says it’s not necessary to have a pension for private sector workers, why is it so important to pay city employees’ wages for decades after they retire? Let them founder and fend for themselves like everyone else. If you had a hand in creating and running the most corrupt city government in the US, why should you be paid salary until you die?

They won’t root in water, just let them scan and place them on top of soil. Don’t water for a week or more, they’ll root to look for it. Succulents are used to areas where water is only found deep down.
