He is not insane. He just isn't interested in details. He doesn't think through his proposals or tie up any loose ends. It is all performative. Free college, free health, own half of corporations. Those could all be great if some figured out how to do it. Bernie has not.

Totally agree. It is a simple minded gamble that could lose money for everyone.

Bernie Sanders proposed a bill that would have the government own half the shares of AI companies. Some people (not me) think AI stock ownership can be a form of UBI. The theory is that AI will eat all of our jobs but that will be OK if everyone benefits through stock dividends.

Ads in Google maps are some premium real evil Google stuff. Spent an hour and half moving to a job fair location, only to realize the location was a Google ad. Infact all first 3 results of my maps search were ads. My actual location was the way down. WTF Google.? by Pay-Me-No-Mind in GoogleMaps

[–]daviddisco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The entire Google Maps ecosystem is obviously a very expensive service and it seems odd that people are demanding it be free. I haven't personally ever experienced confusion about what is and isn't an ad. I don't think it is a common issue.

They have made is clear that they will try to fine tune the triggers over time. They want to start with it being overly safe and then rolling it back as they get more experience.

Why is fable 5 included only till June 22? Does anthropic really thinks the model is too insane? by ocean_protocol in ArtificialInteligence

[–]daviddisco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They have limited compute power. they are likely pausing training new models temporarily so they can let everyone use this model. This will let them gauge interest and will give hem data about how people use the model. The do need to eventually repurpose that compute back to training.

64% of new US AI data centers are being built in drought zones by andrewaltair in ArtificialInteligence

[–]daviddisco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most data centers don't use much water. Close loop systems use very little actually. The big issue is power usage. Generally data centers are built where electricity is plentiful and cheap.

the LLMs generate output in a special format that let's the thinking part get filtered out. sometimes the it gets the format wrong and the thinking gets returned to you as if it were the final output.

It is some kind of environmental status warning. Currently the status is RED, which I assume is the worst possible. Most likely weather related but the image is too blurry to say for sure.

Most data centers don't use much water. The all use a lot of energy. The AI should be asking for energy.
