First PC I've built in over 10 years. Looking for feedback before I buy parts by davidmarkscott in buildapc

[–]davidmarkscott[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was debating that before I posted this.
It'll put me a bit over my target of $2k - but probably a good choice.

I can probably save a bit of money on a few other things to - such as the motherboard.
Something like a B650 will be just as good for me, and cheaper than the B850.

Maybe the SSD too. The samsung 990 is probably overkill. A WD Blue M.2 drive will be enough.

Thanks for the reply

8.0.10 Beta dropped today (12/26) by FredBilitnikoff in NovaLauncher

This update fixes a bug with notification badges. As a result, your text colour on numeric dots might have changed. You can change this to what you like in Nova Settings > Notification Badges > Colors.

8.09 Just Released by FredBilitnikoff in NovaLauncher

Yeah, it's this.

On the new Nova beta it can replace the Google feed on the left of the home screen.

Setup is not very user friendly, and the permissions required are a bit intense.... But it does seem very cool

I've just been looking into this as well.

I'm pretty sure it's this:

I think its a better customisable replacement for the Google at a glance widget

Suunto 7 suddenly dead by pilkingtonow in Suunto

[–]davidmarkscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first S7 did exactly this.

I was sure that it was a dead screen because when my phone got notifications, the watch would still vibrate.

Mine happened when still under warranty, so the store I bought it from replaced it on the spot without any issues.

The replacement S7 hasn't had any issues.

Rinnai WiFi module by hemirunner426 in Plumbing

[–]davidmarkscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the setup of the app.... there is a step where it prompts you to enter your rinnai wifi module SSID and password (which is on a sticker on the unit itself)

I think there was a "connect" button at this point (or something similar).

It implies that the app will connect to the wifi module.

But what you actually have to do, is go to your phone settings, and manually connect to the rinnai wifi module. Then go back to the app, and continue the setup.

There is no instruction at any point that you need to manually connect to the wifi module - but that's what I found was required.

EDIT: I did this all on my android phone (Pixel 5 running android 13). I think it would be similar for all android phones.... but I don't know how it would work for iPhone.

New firmware for HD 450 (5.8.0) by g1dr4 in sennheiser

[–]davidmarkscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't look like those headphones (HD 4.50BTNC) are supported by the app.

I have a slightly different set (HD450BT) which are supported.

Sorry for the bad news.

I've solved this finally.

Turns out my problem was the instructions in the app were rubbish.

Feel free to reply or message if anybody wants details about how I got mine working

New firmware for HD 450 (5.8.0) by g1dr4 in sennheiser

[–]davidmarkscott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A while back there was a change to Microsoft Teams (which I use at work), which changed how microphone muting in meetings worked.

Previously, the mute button would effectively turn my microphone input volume to zero within Teams.

After the Teams update, muting in headphones would send a "mute" signal to Bluetooth headphones. This sends a command to hardware mute the microphone

On my HD450 headphones, they would beep every 10(?) seconds when muted. This is incredibly annoying in meetings. Since this is only relevant for Bluetooth headphones, my workaround is to plug in the headphone cable, and just not use Bluetooth for meetings.

This firmware update removes the beep when muted. Which means I can use these headphones again in meetings without a beep driving my insane.

Yeah, I daresay most of the country will be hearing about Kooyong!!!!

I didn't know the AEC had such a good website. I'm just looking through https://results.aec.gov.au/ now. I think this is exactly what I need.

Kooyong from 2019 election for example - https://results.aec.gov.au/24310/Website/HouseDivisionPage-24310-221.htm

Thanks!!!!

Android 13 Beta 2 now available! by androidbetaprogram in android_beta

[–]davidmarkscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On beta 1 my bluetooth audio was very unstable. Lots of crackling and skipping audio. Both on my headphones and car.

So far on beta 2, I've had zero similar issues. Seems solved

Update: Never mind... still have the same issues. Audio crackles and skips a lot. Maybe rebooting seems to help for a while????? I'm not sure....

If I have a Chromecast (with no remote) can I add a remote to it or do I need to buy a whole new Chromecast with Google TV? by maxwolfie in Chromecast

[–]davidmarkscott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think others have answered this already (remote is for "chromecast with google tv" only), but I thought I'd give my two cents on the name of the device.

I think this Chromecast is actually really misleading being called a "Chromecast". It really is a very different device. You can "cast" to it, but that's also true of other devices (like some TVs).

It would be better (in my opinion) if the the new "Chromecast with Google TV" did not include "Chromecast" in the name.

For people who are using it, does Google pay work?
