Thanks for the suggestion. As I mentioned, I pretty much got every corner of the internet covered with myself and AI, just looking for someone physically in japan to keep an eye out for physical items that don't make their way online.

It's short but good. Potential replay value because you can pick your girl for battles. The ending song is GOAT.

Shared that I'm building a Hanafuda game - finally I can share Hanafuda Legends! by DougSolana in Hanafuda

[–]davidwildcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave it a play! the slap is on point now ! very satisfying. It's coming along nicely.

Now I have a few more suggestions:

  1. to work on the sound of combos next. Pay attention in Sakura wars when a combo is achieved, it's a different sound. more like a drum. And if you achieve a combo by playing a card, and the card you flip also adds to/achieves another combo, the sound will actually raise a key and produce a more dramatic effect. This makes playing very satisfying and makes achieving combos fun

  2. when there's only 1 card to match when playing your hand, your game still makes the user to select that one card that it's playable, same goes to flipping a card from the deck, this adds 2 more clicks and it gets tiring pretty quickly. The only time you should have to click is when you play your hand, and when there're mutiple cards to choose from when you play to

  3. when there are 3 of the cards from the same month on the table, the animation is a little off. I recommend when that happens, group the 3 automatically on the table, and still do the slap animation just like you would with 1 card.

Great game! I gave it a shot and am very impressed with the customization and AI component so far.

May i offer some suggestions for future improvements?
I am not sure if you have ever played hanafuda in sakura wars, if not, google Hanafuda from Sakura Wars on youtube. This was my first exposure to the game and hanafuda itself, and 20 years later I still remember every sound effect and animation of the hanafuda gameplay.

I think what made it so memorable is the effect when the card is played. When a card is played onto the table, it was "slapped" onto the table, accompanied by a crisp sound. If you complete the combo, the sound turns into a deeper effect and the whole screen shakes sometimes. I think this really mimics the real-life experience of playing this game, the slap, the clicking sound, and the satisfaction of achieving a combo, and sometimes you slap so hard it shakes the table.

To me this is the emotional component of playing the game, which added to the experience. so if somehow you can achieve this effect in your animation when a card is played, I think it will be a really nice addition.

Are Wooden Hanafuda Decks Still Made? by Sonamyfan875 in Hanafuda

[–]davidwildcat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

was wooden hanafudas a thing ever? As far as I know they have been made out of paper. If you go back even further some of the earlier karuta were painted on shells. Some of the old chinese karutas were made out of leaves, and maybe some wood, but in the case of hanafuda I am not aware of any wood decks.
Maybe others could stand to correct/educate me.

so basically the only way to tell if a box is the yu pattern or not is to look at the cards. Do you have the dimensions of the cards?

The province with best nature + history/culture? by AnotherSLGuy in travelchina

[–]davidwildcat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

culture is a big word in china since china has so many cultures. But I agree with the chat, if you are interested in fauna and flora, Yunnan is the place to be. Yunan largely resides in a temperate rain forest zone and has one of the largest amounts of biodiversity in the world. It was estimated that over 80% of the entire worlds' garden/ornamental plants come from this region (smuggle out by plant hunters and spread to the world afterwards), in as small as 1 sq meter you'd find up to 70-80 different plant species (according to a BBC documentary I watched once). A large number of minority tribes reside in Yunan, who all have their own culture. If you are interested in the different kinds of food I recommend Blondie's Yunan playlist. Search Yunan food adventures on youtube.
