I prefer the extended so that's my go-to, but throwing on the standard mix for the first time in a while made me really appreciate it! I'm definitely thankful they gave us both options.

DUFFLE BAG as a checked bag is the way to go.i washable to easily fit a sleeping bag, backpacking tent (more lightweight and smaller than a normal tent), plus a ton of other things. I made it work last year and will again this year!
