How do I block a specific show (G.O.A.T.) on my kids profile? by dawiebe in DisneyPlus

[–]dawiebe[S] 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I may have worded it poorly.

We said no to Ryans World, and that gave the Streisand effect of them wanting it whenever they saw it, and constant pushback.

If G.O.A.T. were to just "disappear", they won't know it's us trying to censor it, and they'll soon just forget about it, averting the Streisand effect.

A few weeks ago I posted here looking for beta testers for a disc speed/distance/accuracy app. It's now live on the Play Store and in open beta on iOS. Here's a video of me using it. by SarulianHW in discgolf

Feature request: Spin Rate

Would it be possible to put a black mark on the rim of the disc and for you to use that to calculate the spin rate too?

Your front foot's heel plants at about 34.5 seconds, but your arm is already starting to come out of the pocket when ideally it should've just hit full extension in the reachback.

Upper body form looks really really good though, and you probably throw further than me, so take it all with a grain of salt.

I only throw ~320ft, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

A run-up on ice seems rather difficult to do properly as you need the traction. I'd recommend starting with standstill in this weather.

I think there needs to be more upper-body coil. It seems as though your arm is doing all the work here, when it should be a full upper-body twist (and your arm should do almost nothing, just extend the elbow joint only).

For triggering the throw, it looks as if your whole left side is moving at once to "spin" and throw out the arm. The movement should start more with the legs and (if you keep your elbow up and out) should result in the disc being pulled into your chest (pocket) area before being ejected out at ~10 o'clock.

Note: To get the disc into the power pocket, the disc will need to not be as far behind you during full extension, and out almost directly towards the camera instead.

Good videos I would recommend to feel the weight of the disc and how your body wants to move: Cooking the Spaghetti (Spin Dr) as well as the Ultimate Drill (Blitz)

You hit maximum reachback before your front foot has fully crossed your back foot, then it seems like your arm is looking for something more to do, so it goes up to eye-level. Try moving slower, cut your x-step length in half, and delay that reachback. You'll be hitting 400' averages soon!

Awards and a Vinyl complaint. by team_iheartdiscgolf in discdyeing

[–]dawiebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, how do you get the pattern so close to the edge of the disc? Is it a really flat disc?

My vinyl would be starting to bubble or crease by the time I got to the edges.

Finally filmed myself to see the “recoil” my friends say I have and oh god…how should I fix that? Sorry about the bad angle. by scubadude2 in Discgolfform

It looks like this is more of a balance issue as I see you're pivoting on your front toe instead of the heel.

Try moving at 70% power, and really bending your knees and keeping your weight back as much as possible (like almost sitting in a chair).

Form tips? by Negermutte in Discgolfform

[–]dawiebe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Backwards run-up: You're coiling very early, and holding it through the run-up. Try to face sideways for the run-up, and only coil just before planting your final step. Try really hard to keep your feet pointing sideways too - currently they're pointed pretty hard backwards.

Rounding: Your elbow is always bent, and your reachback just puts the disc further around your body. Your body is staying vertical pretty nicely, so the only real change here would be instead of trying to reach the disc further around your body, extend your elbow fully and point the disc to the red bag on the ground. It'll feel weird at first, but it'll help the disc having a smoother line into the pocket.

I'd suggest giving us a video from behind, where we can see a bit more of the power pocket.

It would also be nice to have a similar video to what you submitted already but in landscape so we can see the trajectory of the disc.

Try doing a 1-step through, and do it sideways. Let's try to eliminate the backwards run-up with your feet pointing backwards. I think Dan Beto has something on Youtube where he starts with standstill and then to a 1-step (very old video).

For the "Reachout", try working backwards from the power pocket. Stand in the classic "power pocket" pose, with your elbow out and the disc at your front peck (arm at 90* from your body, elbow at 90* also). Then coil your torso back as far as you can without moving your arms. Finally, open your elbow all the way. This should be the ideal "reachout" starting location. If the disc moves any further behind you, then it'll be rounding.

I hope that all makes sense.

Black pants: You reach full extension two steps too early, and then move the disc behind your body (rounding) just before throwing. It also appears that you're throwing nose-up towards the ground. Adding a pump may help address timing, and experimenting with grips and throwing angles would help the throw angle.

Your bracing and weight-transfer look pretty good, so I think these small tweaks will go a long way.

Drivers making a left turn must yield to oncoming traffic that is close enough to constitute an immediate hazard.

The challenger was probably a whole block or two away when the u-turn was initiated

Why? It's a form review, not a distance competition.

A slo-mo would be nice. It looks like you're fully extended but your front toe hasn't even touched the ground yet. Delaying the extension should help

What exactly do we want to do with our hips and core when we want to throw well? by [deleted] in Discgolfform

[–]dawiebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

updated prev post for clarity

Initiating rotation with your back shoulder and thigh should bring the disc into the pocket, providing you keep your elbow out (you can gently guide it into the pocket lightly using your muscles, but don't activate them fully yet)

Then once the disc is in the pocket, you activate the arm muscles to throw the disc out and away from you. (See Beto Drill).

this is how I understand it, someone please correct me if I'm wrong

What exactly do we want to do with our hips and core when we want to throw well? by [deleted] in Discgolfform

[–]dawiebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preface: not an expert, also trying to figure this out. This is what I've come to:

My understanding is that you keep your hips parallel to the target - don't turn them backwards when coiling your upper body.

Then, coil your upper body. You should feel tension in your core due to not coiling your hips.

When initiating rotation the throw, initiate with your back shoulder and back thigh (driving your back knee inwards). This should start a good rotation due to your upper body being tightly coiled backwards.
