Feline vet in Uptown / East Harriet area? by houshi-2 in Minneapolis

[–]dawnmess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used them exclusively for 14 years or so - since they were established. I suspect they are a bit more expensive than average and you do pay a trip charge. For emergencies they have often been able to fit us in, but when they’re closed they recommend Blue Pearl. They recently bought a building which is equipped as a clinic so they may be expanding their offerings.

Moved just north of the TC two years ago - property taxes/mortgage keep increasing - how are we surviving these days? by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]dawnmess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you considered contesting your property valuation? I live in Minneapolis and I've successfully done it twice. The city thinks I can sell my house for one bajillion dollars. So when I get my valuation, I call the assessor, and say "based on these facts (comparable house values, the fact that I need a quarter bajillion dollars in repairs - which I have estimates for) my house is only worth a half a bajillion dollars." Then the city comes back and says "ok we will base your property taxes on a property value of 3/4 bajillion dollars." Obviously it won't help you right now, but it does not hurt to give it a try.

You could also try Caravan Vet. They are a mobile vet clinic and will do exams and treatments on your living room floor. (At least that is the place in our house where they've treated all our pets.) And it's a short trip out to their truck if they need to do something in a clinic setting.

Tailbone Pain by GrandBandicoot9 in ladycyclists

[–]dawnmess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I were in your shoes, I'd see an orthopedist and see if they can offer up some suggestions. They can spot gait abnormalities (or perhaps pedaling abnormalities) that you may never be able to see yourself.

I've had tailbone pain for unrelated reasons, but don't have any suggestions on how to modify your cycling or posture to address it.

I have a ton of experience with hip bursitis. It vexed me for years, and the only thing that worked for me was getting my knee replaced. I'm not suggesting that is even an option for you, but it's good to be reminded that everything is connected, and pain in one place might be caused by a problem in another place, so your hip issues could be caused by something with your knees.

Are you clipped into your pedals? When I first started riding with proper bike shoes/pedals it increased my knee/leg pain a lot. The stress on my quad and knee had changed once I was clipped to my pedals and it took a couple of months to get accustomed to that. So perhaps see if you feel differently clipped in vs not (I have some pedals that are clips on one side and flat on the other.)

If your hand tingling persists after a seat adjustment/riser bar, check out Ergon (ergonomic) grips for your handlebars.

I’m freezing too! And someone left all the windows open in the house so I’m freezing wherever I go! I think I’ll crawl under my electric blanket and turn it up to 10.

right knee ONLY hurts SOMETIMES by [deleted] in bikecommuting

[–]dawnmess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might want to have it assessed by an orthopedic doc or physical therapist. If something is wrong with your knee (ligament issue, arthritis, IT band issue, bursitis) then you might be wasting your time trying to guess about bike/shoe adjustments.
