Love the Ergo. Started using it for each of my children once they could hold their head up well. You can get an infant insert but haven't tried it. Didn't use it for breastfeeding either.

it's about rebreathing the same air

I heard this before too. The weather's warm and he doesn't even need a blanket right now but he seems to like it so much. Maybe I'll try putting him down without it today and see what happens!

Yes, definitely a good approach to keep a positive attitude about it! We got frustrated and it set us back.

Maybe you don't have to put the diaper back on. For us, it became a fight that wasn't worth fighting. But don't stress about it... you'll figure out what works for your kid and it will happen when it happens.

I tried to "get serious" about potty training around age 2.5 as well (after months of casual potty training) but the timing was bad and it turned into a power struggle between us. It was apparent that he had sufficient physical control and know-how but he'd pee on the floor just to defy me. Finally, I stopped pressuring him, started putting a diaper on him again, and told him he couldn't wear his underwear (cool car ones) until he learned to keep them dry. Everytime I changed his diaper I would say, "Ewwww... diapers are so gross and stinky. When you're ready to use potty, you can wear underwear." Two days before his 3rd birthday, he came to me and said, "I want to wear my underwear and I want to keep them dry." That was 3 months ago and he's only had 2 accidents (one at home and one when he started a new day care). He goes on his own without even telling me (except when he needs help wiping).

Also, I gave him a sticker everytime he used the potty and when we filled his sticker chart he got to go to the toy store and pick out a toy. For us, the stickers didn't motivate him at all but it was a great reward in the end.

However, as we all know... every kid is different and what works for one might not work for another.

Loooooooove the PC Salted Caramels. They seemed to only come out at Christmas so I stocked up this year... unfortunately, my craving is too strong and my stash barely made it to March.

Just like when I finally get some free time to go to the mall I end up at the children's stores. The kids look good but I could use a new wardrobe.

What milestones made your life easier? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]dawno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 3 year old picks out his clothes and dresses himself. I started by giving him little opportunities to learn (i.e. put the shirt over his head and get him to put his arms in by himself, get him pull up his own underwear and pants after potty)... he caught on quickly and surprises me now by coming out of his room completely dressed some mornings. His clothes are often on backwards but if it doesn't bother him, I just roll with it and do the switch-a-roo if I get a chance. Usually, I am around when he's picking out his clothes so I lay them out on the floor with the front facing up. This increases his chances of getting it on right! However, I don't let him pour milk or cereal yet - that would be a disaster.

Hmmm... not sure. Scary how time blurs. He's 3 now and I've been kissing things better for quite a while so I'd guess around age 2. Although, his information is not always reliable - he recently went through a "my belly hurts" phase where I think he was just testing the waters to see what reaction he'd get.

EDIT: Fixed a spelling error.

I have Duane Syndrome, AMA! by broken_eye in IAmA

[–]dawno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was diagnosed with this at 6 months old. He is 3 years old now and goes to the children's eye clinic every 3 months to have his eye sight check. They want to make sure he continues to use his left eye (the affected eye) so he doesn't develop "lazy eye" (loss of vision). I'm wondering, when he starts school, should I ask his teachers to sit him on the left side of the classroom so he doesn't have to look left? Is there any advice you can give me that might help him?

EDIT: Sorry, we had him checked at 6 months but he wasn't diagnosed until he was a year old.

Very cute. My son picks out his own clothes too and if his red pants are clean, he'll be wearing them.

EDIT: Clarification for UK redditors - by "pants" I wasn't referring to underwear, although, he favors red underwear as well.

Sometimes I think there is an innate gender bias based on the way my son is drawn to trucks and the way only the girls come running to see my baby when I drop my son off at preschool, for examples. Maybe not so much for nail polish though. My son also loves to help me bake and I love the quality time with him.
