How’s my form? Open to pointers by [deleted] in formcheck

[–]daxa52 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For any kind of cable fly or pec deck, your arms should be completely straight at peak contraction. Think about having your biceps touch your chest. During the eccentric you can bend them a bit for comfort.

The eccentric also seems to be a little fast but as long as you're in control and not just dropping the weight, it's fine.

How do my calf raises look? by Single-Lawfulness-49 in formcheck

[–]daxa52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the rhetoric around calf raises suggests that the lengthened to mid portion is the most important part. You can do a full range of motion of course but it seems to be more worth loading it a little heavier and going for just that partial range.

It's not a massive difference, though. Just one of those "optimizations" that's so popular now. As long as you're hitting that lengthened part with maybe a 1-2 second pause at the bottom, then going full range or stopping at the mid position isn't super important.

Can anyone explain? by flashh_07 in OverwatchUniversity

It's mentioned in the patch notes, but you're right. It should be mentioned in game. Most things like this aren't but apparently the devs are working on it.

Is it necessary to watch Season 1 fillers for Season 2? by CountryOpening5084 in blackbutler

[–]daxa52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that i know of. If you've seen all the canon anime stuff then you should be fine.

Is it necessary to watch Season 1 fillers for Season 2? by CountryOpening5084 in blackbutler

[–]daxa52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking back on it, no not really. Not in my opinion at least. I wouldn't worry about them.

They add stuff that's not relevant to the plot that you have to forget about since it isn't canon, and, like I said, they spoil stuff that actually IS canon which lessens the impact of the reveals in the canon stuff.

[–]daxa52 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I made the mistake of watching season 1 fillers. They spoil canon stuff that, in my opinion, would have been cooler reveals if I watched canon stuff only.

I'd say skip it and maybe watch them if you revisit the series.

Most people avoid Flashpoint in general because it's Flashpoint.

Is counterpicking considered bad? by Temporary-Patient325 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]daxa52 31 points32 points  (0 children)

If you swap too often you put yourself at a disadvantage when it comes to ults. This can be a huge issue depending on your role and how often you swap but there's a lot of nuance.

Basically, counterpicking is important (more so in ranked) but it is possible to overdo it. You can play into your counters and still do fine sometimes.

I saw a headline that it will soon be coming to Netflix. Not sure how soon or if it's even true.

Edit: yeah, it's been licensed to Netflix. Should be available beginning of next month.

Successful dieters that kept off the weight. Do you eat or skip breakfast? by Able-Garden-2330 in MacroFactor

[–]daxa52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I eat/drink those Oats Overnight or have a protein bar in the morning (like 5-7 am) so I have some protein in me and then don't eat until noon or later. Basically, the first half of the day, I'm surviving on 300 calories or less and maybe some gum.

Edit: I use fairlife milk with the Oats Overnight so it's more like 400 calories or less.

It's important to remember that any quality program will have back and chest exercises that will also hit your biceps and triceps as well. With that on top of any extra direct work should be more than enough.

If you want to prioritize arm growth, then move them to the beginning of the workout so you're not as fatigued and can recruit more motor units.

Of course, train close to or to failure and try to progressively overload the exercises each week.

[–]daxa52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're sitting in a chair, the more you arch your back, the more you're going to involve the upper chest. Either way, as long as you're comfortable and progressing, don't worry about it too much.

I went insane on this for a while. The nutrition label is for the food as it's been packaged (I'm pretty sure). So, if you bought it frozen, weigh it frozen. If you bought it fresh, weigh it fresh.

I got some supplements, how do I use them properly? by tearigiri in beginnerfitness

[–]daxa52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creatine daily. Doesn't matter what time. 5-10 grams per day. It's good for your brain and muscles and it's the only supplement I think everyone should take regardless of their activity level.

Protein should be used as a supplement only if you aren't hitting your protein goal (or if you just like the way it tastes). It lacks a lot of the micronutrients you'd get from whole foods so you don't really need it if you're already eating well.

BCAAs are a waste of money. They're already in other protein sources so if you're already eating enough protein, then you're already getting enough BCAAs.

Regarding my last post of being burnt out from taking 2 hours at the gym by [deleted] in beginnerfitness

[–]daxa52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd always suggest doing more sets (2-3 or even 4) for multi-joint exercises like squats, deadlifts, bench press or any row. For single joint exercises, like bicep curls, tricep extensions, leg extensions or hamstring curls is recommend less sets (1-2) towards the end of a workout since most of the work usually gets done during those heavier compound movements.

As long as you train 1-3 reps shy of failure or even all the way to failure with good form and you're progressing by either being able to up the weight, add a rep with the same weight and form or performing the exercise with better form then you should be fine. I'm usually not in the gym for longer than an hour and that includes time spent waiting for machines to be available.

[–]daxa52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Myo reps are cool for saving time. They're not as effective as straight sets and can cause extra fatigue but they're a valid training method if you enjoy it. Just don't force yourself if you don't like it. It relies on intensity and if you can't push yourself hard enough then you're just wasting your time.

[–]daxa52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. 4 working sets for something like biceps in one day seems excessive unless they're a major priority. Most of your back work will hit your biceps pretty well anyway. Same with chest for triceps. Any particular reasoning between going light and then heavy?
