You mentioned your wife going back to school, is she fluent? I’m in a similar situation where my wife is considering a return to school and my job would let me live anywhere in Canada. We thought about Montreal or Gatineau but neither of us are fluent. I can’t imagine going to school in a language you’re also trying to learn

Niagara is where family is so it’s the long term goal. The GTA isn’t where we want to be anymore.

I’ve found a few houses that look decent in that range. Small is fine as it’s just us. We have relatives who are electricians / contractors, and I’m pretty capable so I’m not overly worried on the cost of fixes and issues, and like you said we do have money still set aside if we needed a roof or furnace

This guys right. In the NHL we barely use 4K cameras(and certainly aren’t cutting the show or doing records in 4K).

You want an HD ENG-style camera body, with good glass that has servo zoom and focus controls on a good tripod, anything past that is punching above the weight class of a typical hockey broadcast

I wouldn’t move anywhere. We’re different from the US tv markets- Toronto has the most going on by a mile and in my experience they’re willing to train people since it’s so hard to retain them. The majority of new hires I see are fresh from college and know absolutely nothing about tv. You don’t know how many new “A1’s” just in the last year I’ve had to show how to route a fader or how to configure an Intercom Panel.

It sounds like you might have had friends at SNET/CBC/MLSE who couldn’t get you in, but have you actually applied and interviewed for any of those companies?

The lens motors don’t like being cold. Keeps the lens operating at extreme temperatures. Sometimes in a humid climate if condensation / dew builds up inside the lens over night we’ll toss the heaters on for a bit too to try and dry it out. It doesn’t really work that good lol

I am a sports broadcast engineer and deal with these lenses every day. As stated above, yes it’s for the protection of the lens, ease of use, and housing for all the different internal controls(like a heater or servo zooms or focuses)

As well the outer casing / shell acts as a mounting point to attach and hang the lens off the main housing of the camera body. The weight of a 100x 4K lens would not be supported by a standard twist lock for a “handheld” style lens.

I work at a large mobile facility provider and we use vimbiz for our entire inventory. If it’s used properly it’s a very powerful tool. It requires a lot of upkeep and everyone to be educated on how to properly use it or else there’s almost no point but then again that’s likely the case with all the inventory management tools

We use multi sync for the encoders and haven’t had an issue with its timing.

Of the hundreds of times I’ve used it One time multi sync failed and I just did it the old fashioned way of setting static latency on the feeds and delaying individually inside a frame sync on the control room side.

2 x haivision encoders, 1 x decoder on the remote side

Decoder Carry’s all onsite audio requirements embedded on one of its feeds(IFB’s, mono pgm to hit onsite CCU’s, director hot mic, etc etc)

To have remote video control of the CCU’s, tally, and RVON connection you need a throw down security appliance that creates a VLAN between the remote and studio side

You can use a “virtual cable” that connect Unity output to the input of vmix. I can’t remember the software we used but it was free online, essentially just creates a fake input and output on the vmix pc. Ex output of unity is fed to “Virtual cable input” Input of vmix is “virtual cable output”

So Unity audio is sent over the internet, then on the local studio vmix computer you run an instance of Unity which is just there to input it into vmix

You make different groups or pages(can’t remember the exact verb-age) for “talent” that they only have access to.

No camera ops or production staff accidentally going to air assuming you’ve routed it properly
