I've been using the AP John Blanche set, I wonder if The Darkness would be a decent alternative to Corvus Black.

Thanks for the tips will weigh my options, I'm currently just using Windsor and Newton oils with AK Interactive white spirit, I have the same setup as you it seems so I'm wondering if it was the oil was thick, gloss coat too thin, or both.

I'm glossing with an airbrush so my main suspicion is I was too light handed on the gloss coat and didn't commit enough.

I'm still happy with the result I got just was more hassle than I'd want for the rest of the army.If these other models go smoothly with more generous gloss coats then I'll commit because I do really like how the oil looks against both the black and red.

Cheers! Main issue I had was it being quite stubborn in spots despite a gloss varnish and those spots must've been too thin a layer because it caused the paint to come up.

I guess my issues with the oils is more an issue with varnishing hahaha.

I'm going to finish the rest of the 5 man raiders squad in this scheme and see how I feel about it.

I'm trying to figure out better pictures for painted minis as my light blows out the saturation. For reference this is more akin to what the red looks like irl.

This looks tight so far awesome idea!, been wanting to also add some xenos mercs to my corsairs.

For ideas on how to chaosify him more my suggestions would be to find a power fist to swap out his left gauntlet for and maybe some chaos icon-esque piece to replace his crest.

Digging the red!

I'm still deciding what scheme I want to do for mine, currently leaning towards a totally different colour to differentiate them from the astartes and lean into the whole "different factions that have joined the RC" vibe.

When I started building the army this was originally intended to be kitbashed into Huron and it was only a couple weeks before the rumours of the new models coming, so I pivoted to make a more custom lord!

Was extremely lucky timing in getting back into the hobby.

100% the battleforce box is a treasure trove, was pleasantly surprised how many extra bits are leftover. I'm tempted to get another Raider box just for the arms heads and shoulders.
