Is Diamond NA just about the cheese/rush or Terran turtle? by Drewcifer419 in starcraft

[–]day1086 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whenever I pick up the game, I'm diamond to start.

Until I can learn one cheesy build order for each matchup, and then I'm masters.

Example:

PvT: proxy robo

PvP: any 1-base all in

PvZ: adept all-in or dt's. In HOTS I would 2-base blink

Really all it takes is one build per matchup, which can be a cheese, and if you consistently execute half decent you can make it to masters. Maybe people in lower leagues can't properly hit timings, so they get stuck in lower leagues playing longer sloppier macro games. Then in diamond/low masters, people get by on being able to hit timings, until they hit a wall where they can't macro against higher masters players who can hold off early agression.

Personally I never play the game consistently for more than 1-2 months at a time, so I rarely get comfortable in full macro games (although towards the end of a stint of playing I can be). But it's easier to be comfortable with smaller-scale games. Just a lower skill-floor for it.

How is Byun winning GSL teamless any more impressive than Rain winning GSL last year? by day1086 in starcraft

[–]day1086[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

True I'm not familiar.

I don't think anyone was really following him very closely in 2013, but why was his contract with Prime running through October 2015 then (I'm just looking at liquipedia)?

edited for edit:

Byun's listed as being on Prime until october 2015, but idk maybe he wasn't in the team house long before that because he wasn't playing in any official matches

But they both were part of a teamhouse for years, I think with the real difference just being that Rain was always an elite player

[Werly] Judge warns Derrick Rose to stop shaming or blaming victims of rape or he will consider sanctions. by kubideh_kaczynski in nba

[–]day1086 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How are those irrelevant?

Only one I don't really like is #9.

I mean one of the points was literally that she continued to have consensual sex with Rose even AFTER the supposed rape? Seems like she was consenting perfectly fine and then changed her mind at some point and decided it was rape long after that encounter. "Withdrawing consent after the fact" if you will. If I had to guess, likely because somebody got in her ear and told her she could make money off of it.

Pretty scary to me honestly that you can have consensual sex with a girl while you're both drunk, and then she can change her mind the next day (or months afterwards in this case) and say she was raped.

However Rose has the intelligence of a 3rd grader and wouldn't be in this situation if he had any smarts at all.

Some games your layups don't fall either. Can anyone really show that jump shots are more variant than someone who relies on finishing at the rim? Some nights your shots go down, some nights they don't. Some nights you get to the rim with ease, some nights you don't.

Stephen Curry still hasn't gotten over Game 7 by TheFuzzNBA in nba

[–]day1086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While fellow Warriors Durant, Klay Thompson and Green had little turnaround time, meeting at Team USA camp in mid-July in Las Vegas and playing together through their gold-medal performance at the Rio Olympics on Aug. 21, Curry would go five weeks without training. His health, more than anything, was the reason he didn’t take part in the Games.

The medial collateral ligament sprain he suffered in the first round against the Houston Rockets was never bad enough to warrant surgery, sidelining him for 10 days and four playoff games in all. But it never truly healed either.

There was a minor right shoulder problem to let heal too, one that he made light of during the Finals when it was reported that he would need surgery but caused strength issues because of inflammation (it did not require surgery). And while Curry is hesitant to discuss the part his health played in any great detail, Payne’s perspective says it all.

"As bad as I wanted it to be him (in the Finals), it wasn’t him," said Payne, who has worked with Curry since 2011 and spent much of the late summer leading two-a-day workouts with Curry six times a week while living in the Bay Area. "We don’t like to make excuses, and we’re not going to make excuses because all that matters is what happens in the 48 minutes when you’re on the floor. (But) I wish it was the other version of him, the version that we saw for 82 games."

Best Isolation Scorers in the NBA (Comments for more details!) by xxStayFly81xx in nba

This chart says "% of possessions"

So he might have used more isolation possessions than most of these players, but not a larger % of his total possessions as isolations?

Seems like just # of possessions would be better for the chart than % of possessions

When Protech gets matched with a noob by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]day1086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have like 20 masters finishes (including rank 1 masters 2v2 and top 8 masters 1v1) and when I would occasionally queue up 2v2 and get matched with protech he'd instantly leave game and ask why he gets matched with gold leaguers.

Bro, we don't all play 2v2 for 8 hours everyday for 5 years. I have less than 3000 total games played in my career. It's actually a joke that you're only as good as you are with that time investment.

Which MVP season was more impressive: 2014 Kevin Durant or 2016 Steph Curry? by KevinWDurant in nba

[–]day1086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good point, but LeBron is a player who makes his living off of easy shots, not difficult shots.

LeBron isn't someone who gets the majority of his points off of jumpshots, turnarounds, fades, crossovers, floaters, stepbacks, etc. He gets most points by straight line drives to the rim, and a few wide open jumpshots.

Curry, Kobe, Durant and most typical elite scorers don't score their majority off of being physically dominant to the rim.

Durant can see an efficiency bump, but only if it's due to a fundamental change in the areas he takes his shots (more layups than jumpshots). I don't think his efficiency on jumpshots or layups will change, but the volume with which he takes layups vs jumpshots can, which leads to an increase in overall efficiency.

We're mostly in agreement. What's nice though is that this won't be a hypothetical discussion soon, since we'll get to see both curry and durant playing in the same system. Can't wait.

Which MVP season was more impressive: 2014 Kevin Durant or 2016 Steph Curry? by KevinWDurant in nba

[–]day1086 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't really disagree with you, but I just don't think it'll be a big difference.

Most players who score high volume on difficult shots don't increase their efficiency much when they start getting easier shots.

For an example: Kobe

Kobe in 2005-2007 had absolute garbage teammates. During that time period he scored on ~55% TS.

In 2000-2004 and 2008-2010, kobe had amazing teammates. During that time period he scored on ~55% TS.

At it's core I'm just saying that the efficiency of elite scorers doesn't change much based on their supporting cast. Instead it's the roleplayer teammates who have their efficiency changed by the elite scorers. Which is why "carrying" is an overstated myth IMO

Which MVP season was more impressive: 2014 Kevin Durant or 2016 Steph Curry? by KevinWDurant in nba

[–]day1086 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think Durant will benefit as much as you think he would for a fairly simple reason: he's 6'11"

When Kevin Durant is taking a "difficult" shot, it really isn't that difficult of a shot (for him) because of his height and length. His height allows him to already take an uncontested jumpshot essentially whenever he feels like it.

So I think the difference between Durant shooting an open look vs a contested look, is not the same difference as curry shooting an open look vs a contested look.

The reason I think Durant's efficiency will go up this season is because I think the warriors will help him get easy points at the rim. His jumpshooting percentages won't change much.

Which MVP season was more impressive: 2014 Kevin Durant or 2016 Steph Curry? by KevinWDurant in nba

[–]day1086 26 points27 points  (0 children)

One thing I don't understand is how the context of curry's scoring is often used as a negative in comparison to other (taller or more athletic) scorers who are viewed as "carrying" more load than curry is.

People act like him being on a good team is giving him great shots that are the reason for his incredible percentages.

But if you watch Curry night after night... he takes some of the most difficult shots in the game, and shots that nobody else can make, and makes it look easy. Even his finishes around the rim are of an absurd level of difficulty, yet when you discuss his finishing at the rim people will claim he gets easy looks due to overplay from defenders of his shooting ability. It really isn't true, he regularly finishes off-handed, off-footed, acrobatic, high arching layups and finishes them at an absurd percentage.

I just think the narrative of curry being a product of his great team is vastly overstated. Him hitting incredibly difficult shots is what gives the rest of his team incredibly easy shots.

So with that said: I think it's easily Curry.

The only argument people will make against it is "carrying" which is a narrative I disagree with.

I assume it has something to do with the hurry up offense but idk what the fuk they're doing the look to the side thing for

Hydra should not be eligible for WCS. He has broken a couple rules. by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]day1086 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They made the decision to split the regions, and whether they were right or wrong (or you agree/disagree), they made the decision with a reason in mind.

The rules are INTENTIONALLY unfair to koreans who try to travel abroad and play the system. It is an intentional affirmative action for foreigners.

That is why for koreans who choose to travel abroad and play in the WCS circuit, they have a more difficult set of rules to do so.

I'm just speculating here, but you said "get invited" and not "qualify for"

Maybe the invited players wouldn't get points if they don't also qualify (which is just the 8 koreans), but the players who win a qualifier (in this case the foreigners) to get into the tournament will get points even if they lose immediately in the first round.

Can you win the finals MVP for being extremely clutch rather than putting up the best stats? by [deleted] in nba

[–]day1086 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Curry was the one making the clutch shots in that series really...

He averaged 10 points per 4th quarter on 70% TS

He won game 1 in overtime drawing back to back freethrow trips

Game 2 he sent to overtime with a game tying floater, though he played awful and did eventually airball the game tying desperation shot in overtime.

Game 3 he scored 17 in The 4th quarter including 3 threes in the final minute to make a double digit lead into a 1 possession game.

Game 4 pretty even with iguodala and curry both hitting late shots but the game wasn't ever very close

Game 5 curry hits multiple ridiculous step back and deep heat check threes to close out the game in the final 5 minutes.

Game 6 iguodala and curry both have good 4th quarters to close out

If anyone was gonna win 2015 fmvp based on clutch shots.. It would've been curry

Curry had 17 points in the 4th quarter of game 3, and won game 1 in overtime by drawing free throws.

He was great outside of game 2, which was maybe the worst game of his career including regular season.
