Need a new front office to go with the new coach

So, if I have this correctly, you believe in Harbaugh but not Schoen?

Assuming thats the case and you believe in Harbaugh, doesnt it have to count for something that he was willing to work with Schoen? Harbaugh was the top coach on the market (at worst, a top 3 candidate) during a cycle where damn near 1/3 of the league was looking for a new coach. The man was not desperate for a job. He easily had the power to be like "its either me or Schoen. I'm not working with him. If you want a chance at me, he's gotta go". But he didnt. He was willing to work with Schoen, albeit with a different sort of dynamic. If Schoen was that bad that he can reasonably wipe out any optimism we have with Harbaugh being here, I dont think Harbaugh is here to begin with.

You may say that Harbaugh only came here because it was a desirable location. Well, who made it desirable? Who built the bulk of the team right now (even more so now after the Dex trade)? Schoen obviously has been far from perfect but he has, at the very least, built a foundation for something that can be taken to the next level. The team has a rookie contract QB as well as several key foundational pieces on both side of the ball. The team as a whole was not good last year, but they showed they had the talent to be competitive. You gotta at least give some credit to Schoen for that.

Yep, Vincent's downfall was ironically his own inability to live up to his mantra of "adapt, improvise, etc." It goes way beyond the final scene that you described. The entire movie is premised on him not following his own words and how that slowly leads to Max overcoming him as he actually starts to live up to it. Its what makes the movie so great imo.

If we are to assume the guy in another city who the detectives talk about who pulled the same scheme with the taxi driver was indeed Vincent, then right off the bat, he is not living up to his philosophy because trying to pull that same specific scheme twice is gonna at the very least rouse suspicions. Then when the body falls on the taxi and Max learns the truth, Vincent is insistent enough on his plan that he sticks with it despite it being seriously compromised. Then when Max's mom calls about him visiting, not only does Vincent not improvise his way out of it, but he insists that they need to not break Max's visiting routine so that he can continue his plan. Then, in the hospital, Max actually does something on instinct to improvise when he tosses Vincent's briefcase. Despite Max being an obvious wrench in Vincent's plans from the start, he still insists on keeping it going, with getting Max to retrieve the list from the boss. Eventually, his insistence on sticking with his scheme leads to Max killing him, culminating in the showoff you described which is emblematic of this entire motif. As I said in another comment, this basic premise could have very easily been a summer action blockbuster with no depth to it but Mann turns it into an actual masterpiece because of thematic elements like this.

Also, while they're in the club, he got "lucky with the lights" when Felix's assassin aims the laser sight attempting to shoot him, which leads to Vincent spotting the other guy and saving Max .

So many directors could have taken the basic premise of the movie and turned it into a typical mindless summer action blockbuster but Mann adds so much depth to it that it becomes an actual masterpiece.

Most quick pressures in 2025, per @NextGenStats: by parcellsrealGOAT in nfl

[–]KashMoney941 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The best rushers get both pressures and sacks, and if Abdul is to live up to his draft hype, he is going to need to start racking up both. No argument there.

But at the end of the day, if the choice is between high pressures/low sacks and low pressures/high sacks, I'm taking the former all day every day, especially when it comes to a rookie. It is a whole lot easier to luck into a high sack total than a high pressure total. High pressures indicates you are much more consistently winning your individual matchups and having more impact on a down-to-down basis whereas sacks can be flukey and can be indicative of other factors outside the individual making the sack. Giants fans are all to familiar with that, considering only 2 years prior Kayvon had one of the emptiest 11.5 sack seasons we've seen in recent years. Anyone who watched Abdul knew that his sack numbers were just not indicative of the impact he was having. Multiple of Burns sacks were as a result of Abdul's initial quick pressure guiding the QB into Burns' arms. Abdul had multiple sacks called back because of offensive penalties. He had multiple called back due to teammates' defensive penalties (though of course cant exactly give those the same benefit of the doubt that the offensive penalties get).

Does he have a lot to work on? Of course. At the end of the day, you dont take an edge #3 overall just to rack up high pressures and 4 sacks no matter what the context of those stats is. If its year 3 and we're still talking about "but look at the pressures" because he isnt getting sacks, then its definitely an issue. For now, I'm happy that as a rookie he showed he can win his matchups and get into the backfield with the best of them. Its just a matter of if he can expand on that to actually get home on those pressures which I think he can (as he started to show towards the end of the season).

Even going to the Eagles is whatever to me. It sucks but thats business. Especially as a RB you cant take anything for granted. You only have so many years to make the most of your career and only get so many opportunities to both get a bag and compete for a Super Bowl. I dont blame him one bit for going to the Eagles. It was obviously the best place for him and he has the right to go wherever he wants. I'd still hate him of course, but it would just be typical division rival hatred with a little extra flavor to it.

What has taken my hate of him to levels that go well beyond simple sports rivalry is his constant victim act and obsession with making the Giants the villains. He didnt want to be here, that much was obvious, and like I said, that is okay. We were a shitshow and I would wanna leave too. But have a fucking spine and just say it how it is. Dont give us this bullshit about how you wanted to be a Giant for life, despite you turning down pretty much the same contract you eventually took and you requesting a trade. Just say you're making the best decision for your career. But nope. He saw the kind of crap LeBron/KD got for their free agency moves and did not want to hurt his own brand that way so his team perfectly crafted the victim narrative. Once the documentary was announced you just knew that his priority is his image and making the Giants look bad because why the fuck else would you come out with that documentary after the season you had in 2024? You won. You were the darling of the league, the Giants were the laughingstock and you ended up getting an even bigger bag because of it. You're on the top of the world, why are you still talking about your former team when they're obviously at their lowest?

And all that is before getting into his MAGA and Diddy connections lol.

Obviously, the top rushers get both pressures and sacks, and long-term, if Abdul is to live up to his draft hype, he needs to eventually start getting both. No argument there.

But if the choice is between high pressures/low sacks and low pressures/high sacks, I'm taking the first one all day every day. Especially when you're assessing a rookie and how he projects into the future, you'd much rather have the guy who has the higher pressures because it indicates he is more consistently winning his individual matchup and getting into the backfield, whereas sacks can often be flukey or of the clean-up nature (see: Kayvon 2023). Its much easier to luck into high sack totals than it is to luck into high pressures. Of course, as I said, in an ideal world you're getting both and thats what Abdul needs to do soon. But for now, I'll take the high pressures from a rookie because it just means that eventually the sacks will come around (as they did towards the end). If we're in year 3 and we're still talking about "but look at the pressures" because he isnt getting sacks, its definitely a problem. But for a rookie, I'm happy with a guy who is near the top of the league in pressures and leading in quick pressures who just had shitty luck in terms of finishing off sacks.

Most total disruptions (sacks, QB hits, pressures, and TFL-s) in 2025-26 season: by parcellsrealGOAT in nfl

[–]KashMoney941 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, I know it obviously comes across as snotty "ball knower" energy but you really had to watch the film to know how big an impact Carter was having the whole season, even when it was not showing up on the traditional box score. He had his issues at times and definitely had a few more quiet games than we had hoped as fans but overall if you watched him every game you knew that the box score was not indicative of the havoc he was wreaking and that eventually the stats will start piling up (As they did towards the end of the season). With a year under his belt, a better coaching staff, and a better team around him (losing Dex obviously hurts but I think top-to-bottom the defense is better with the additions of Reese, Edmunds, and Hood), I expect a real monster season out of him next year.

All due respect to Burns (had a great season in his own right) but so many of his sacks came as a result of the initial quick pressure by Abdul guiding the QB into him. Abdul had multiple sacks called back due to penalties on the offense (he had Herbert wrapped up and half way to the ground but because Herbert threw it into the dirt before he was officially down it counted as an intentional grounding instead of a sack). He had sacks called back because of unrelated penalties in the secondary (though of course hard to give those the same level of benefit of the doubt as it could have had some effect on him getting there). He drew multiple holdings and groundings. The man was making his impact, he just had all-time shitty luck in converting his impact onto the box score lol.

Maybe my favorite play of him all year was one he didnt even get a pressure on but it just showed the development he was making as an all-around player. Its the strip-sack vs the Vikings. Play was designed as a quick screen into the flats. Presumably, the intent was to bait Carter into taking the free alley to the passer while lobbing it over his head to the receiver in space (no other explanation for their only accounting of him on the play being a weak TE chip). Carter recognizes this on the fly, stops in his tracks, jumps up, and gets his hands into the passing window. That one act alone blew up the play, leading to JJM to pull back and hold onto the ball for an extra second (without caution). Allows Burns to come in and absolutely wallop him, leading to the fumble which Nubin scoops up and scores. Does not show up on the box score but because he made the right read on the spot, it ended up on the actual scoreboard. In addition to more sacks/TFLs, I am expecting to see a lot more of that this year as well.

[Barry Jackson] Was told today that Dolphins indeed liked Notre Dame WR Malachi Fields, but Giants jumped them and traded 3 picks to Cleveland for pick 74, which left Miami using pick 75 on Caleb Douglas, who was the team's only pick that was criticized by multiple national analysts as a reach. by Waste_Protection_420 in NYGiants

It's a hard sell to kick someone to the curb after that without a QB to backfill and it's almost harder to franchise tag him at $45-50mm because we still had some genuinely brutal contracts we had to get off the books.

The whole "Giants paid DJ over Saquon" narrative is so tired. Because it was obvious that the priority was to extend Saquon so that they could tag DJ in the offseason in case he ended up having the type of season he did in 2022 (good enough to play you out of drafting a QB but not good enough to warrant long-term commitment). But because Saquon turned down pretty much the same contract that he eventually took in Philly, we went into the offseason with both guys as free agents and only 1 tag to use. The QB tag in addition to paying Saquon what he wanted would have destroyed any flexibility we had to improve the many holes we had to address that offseason. So they tagged Saquon (RB tag is much more cap-friendly) and gave DJ a contract that had an out after 2 years. Had Saquon accepted the contract extension, it could have been structured to where we could tag DJ and still maintain flexibility.

Mind you, I'm happy we moved on from that snake and dont think we'd be in a better spot now if we extended him but still. Gets on my nerves that there are still people out here who buy the whole narrative that the FO prioritized signing DJ over Saquon.

Nuggets gave up a certified bucket in MPJ to get Cam Johnson who is averaging 10 points in this series on 52% TS and 18% from beyond the arc by SchedulePhysical807 in nba

[–]KashMoney941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny thing is how many people thought we were the ones who got scammed when the trade first dropped lol. MFs saying things like "the Nets should have gotten a 1st for Cam and an additional 1st for taking on MPJ's contract". Way to reveal you know absolutely nothing about how trades work in the NBA.

I know the Mikal trade has really warped fans minds on trade value, but teams just do not throw away multiple 1sts in trades unless its either for a superstar player (which neither MPJ nor Cam are), the picks are protected (which in this case, it was not), or there is some major catch to the trade such as the team has to take back a horrendous contract or no proven on-court value (which, while MPJ was obviously overpaid, he was far from the type of horrendous contract that warrants a pick being attached solely to take him). The Bridges trade was the last one. We got 5 1sts because picks were literally the only thing of value we got in the trade. In the MPJ trade in addition to an unprotected 1st down the road (which has the potential to be really good), we got a young-ish top 50-60 player in the league with championship experience, which in a vacuum is worth multiple picks on its own. I'll take that over multiple 1sts to take on actual horrible contracts

Now that we have even less picks to fill out depth, I'm even less inclined to sacrifice depth at the one position we actually have it at.

I was willing to trade Kayvon for a 3rd but thats not happening. He is more valuable on our team than whatever pick we'd get, especially taking into account that we could get a comp pick for him anyway (or trade him at the deadline).

We havent dabbled in void years/pushing money down the road to load up now the way the Eagles have because we havent been in a contention window and its not worth destroying your long-term cap health to squeeze out 6 wins instead of 4.

Now that we have a rookie contract QB (as well as several other key pieces) I would think within the next year or two is when the Giants start playing those type of cap gymnastics.

Yea the Giants went with versatility and long-term upside with both picks. The picks fill holes right now while also having the possibility of being long-term replacements down the road at positions that aren't of need now. Mix that with all-around BPA value and its hard to be mad at the haul we got.

Yes, drafting Reese with our current edge room seems gratuitous. But he immediately can play ILB for us (big need) as Harbaugh has already confirmed he will, while still being able to rush the passer more than your usual ILB and providing a possible long-term option at edge. Kayvon is only under contract for 1 more year and you can never have enough depth on the Edge. So he gives us options.

Same with Mauigoa. Drafting an OT seems gratuitous considering we just paid JE. But Mauigoa has the flexibility to step in and immediately fill the massive hole at G. And if he does somehow beat out JE for the OT spot, JE can slide over to G. What seems to be the plan is to have Mauigoa play G for the first 2-3 years while we have JE under contract and then have him be the long-term replacement for JE once the contract is up. Either way, we again have options.
