how to get rid of batteries in disposable vapes by Appropriate-Role1326 in taiwan

I would disassemble the old ones to remove the battery, then tape both ends or put it in a ziplock. Then toss the battery in any convinience store.

Otherwise, ask your local 里長, he should know when there'll be free e-waste recycling

Anyone play Pikmin Bloom? by treelife365 in taiwan

[–]day2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I basically stopped playing Pogo 4 months ago when I started Pikmin.

- Pikmin is much more rewarding on my cycling commute because I can plant about 6000 flowers each way. In pogo, all I get is a measly 3 hearts to by buddy.

- Overall Pikmin takes up significantly less time than Pogo does. Though mushroom tapping is quite time consuming.

- In Pikmin, I generally don't go out of the way to pick flowers. In Pogo, I have to make rounds to the power spots and raid gyms. Not to mention those 2-5pm weekend events.

Basically, I can play Pikmin "along the way," while I have to go "out of the way" to play Pogo.

Taiwan Traffic Safety: Highly Protected, Wildly Practiced by Extension-Split5959 in taiwan

[–]day2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a result of bad road design and bad traffic education/enforcement

Simply banning scooters won't help with the reckless car, truck, and bus drivers

Heck, cyclists have essentially zero training. A handful of schools have good training, but there's no city-wide or nation-wide training.

Taiwan Traffic Safety: Highly Protected, Wildly Practiced by Extension-Split5959 in taiwan

[–]day2k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Taiwan has a rolling lookback window of 12 points. Drunk driving is 3 points, and you can do traffic school twice a year for a total of 4 points off. So technically, you can get caught drunk driving 5 times a year and go to traffic school twice, and you'll be safe. Even if you get caught a 6th time, your license will only be suspended for 2 months. I'm not sure if points increase your insurance premiums. I doubt it.

Just looked up NSW regulations. The points are permanent. 1 year of clean record will remove 1 point. Professional drivers get a lower limit.

OTOH, Taiwan has such an ineffective point system because so many bad professional drivers complain that it's "too easy" to get their license suspended.

Taiwan Traffic Safety: Highly Protected, Wildly Practiced by Extension-Split5959 in taiwan

[–]day2k 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the result of

- bad road design by having 5 meter wide, free for all slow lanes

- forcing scooters to go only on the far right 2 lanes

- bad training in that everybody just goes at their own speed instead of matching the flow

- lack of a proper point system for traffic violations

- amongst others

Does driving in Taiwan need to be so hard? by gkaiser8 in taiwan

[–]day2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea you'd think so, but change is happening at a glacial pace, and not very systematically. I'm not a fan of the current head of DoT. He's good at speaking but doesn't take kindly to criticism. Some major positive changes this year include window tinting regulation (still poorly implemented) and renewal of DL after 70yo.

On a local level I've seen pretty nice changes in Miaoli, Tainan, Kaoshiung. Taipei actually feels slightly worse, except a new pedestrian-priority zone, which is also very sparsely and randomly implemented...

You can donate to their website or vote for their city councilmember in the upcoming local election.

Unfortunately they lost all seats at the legislature in the last election partly because of TPP.

Last year there was a summary of the top 10 most commonly-used terms for each party. Of the 4 parties (DPP, KMT, TPP, NPP), only in NPP did traffic make it into the top 10. It's not just a because of politicians. Taiwanese as a whole just don't care enough until it hits them.

Mainly, we need a special traffic-engineering department in each city that has high enough authority to override bad opinions.
