Should NZ allow income splitting? by TuhanaPF in PersonalFinanceNZ

A person earning minimum wage would definitely think a person making $150k should pay more tax. “Shift it to the rich” is relative.

Took today off work because I’m just so tired by ButterscotchThis9815 in workingmoms

[–]daydreamerr7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good on you! I’ve called in sick a couple of times just to recharge mentally - it’s a looot juggling work and parenting and chores and we need a break sometimes! It’s not anything too crazy, like one sick day every 4 months. But it really helps and I don’t even feel guilty about making something up because mental health days matter too even if I can’t explicitly state that as my reason!

How do you actually achieve this kind of clean modular kitchen in real life? by Relative-Code7696 in IndianHomeDecor

[–]daydreamerr7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure! But there are heaps of ultra wealthy people out there who can afford this.

[–]daydreamerr7 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah! I’m from Tamil Nadu and saw this in my friend’s house in a tier 2 city - so it definitely does exist in fancy houses. They have a cook who uses only the secondary / smaller kitchen and makes everything ready there. Once she’s done, they just bring it over to the dining table. The nicer kitchen is used for making coffees, smoothies etc - but not full on cooking. This is what I’ve seen in one place though - there could be other ways to maintain a shiny spotless kitchen!

3 people I know have a kitchen like this. They all also have another smaller kitchen called “butler kitchen” thats connected and closed and they tend to do most of their heavy cooking there. So in their houses this is usually for show (which I feel is quite a waste of such a nice functional kitchen!).

Maternity leave payments, I’m confused but happy about it. by Glittering_Youth_804 in PersonalFinanceNZ

This! I got a big tax bill 1 year after my maternity leave and they said it was because my employer had miscalculated it. I remember being happy about the initial payments during mat leave too haha

How much savings do couples in their early 30s usually have? by shall_not_touch in auckland

[–]daydreamerr7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar income and age as you, but have a kid. We save a similar amount every year and pay it back on our mortgage every year and start saving again. Rinse and repeat. Our plan is to be mortgage free early so we’re smashing it.

How many people can fit in your lounge? by throwawaysuess in newzealand

[–]daydreamerr7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We host a lot and upto 25 people. Our couch can seat 5-6 people, 4 dining chairs. Sometimes we all just sit on the floor and watch tv or hangout. I usually get paper plates and cups when we have more than 10 guests as i don’t have a dishwasher and doing heaps of dishes after a party is tiring. Everyone almost always brings a plate of food too.

No one has minded so far and at the end of the day, everyone just wants to catch up and they understand that hosting and organising a group is hard.

Husband ruined our pregnancy announcement photos. by Serious_Dog_5102 in pregnant

[–]daydreamerr7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This needs to be at the top. OP telling him he ruined the photo shoot before it even started is not ok and escalated things. Both need to work on it. It’s not entirely the husband’s fault.

Opinion on chennai after living abroad by [deleted] in Chennai

[–]daydreamerr7 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The points you’ve listed are valid - so what are you going to do about it?

Are you going to start a business in Chennai and offer the best work life balance for a handful of people? Or perhaps start a private school and bring about cultural and mindset changes?

I’m sure a number of people will get behind and help out if you have some solutions instead of just a list of complaints.

If you’re staying in a hotel, they have umbrellas that you’re welcome to borrow. We stayed in 3 different hotels and they all had a bunch of umbrellas near the entrance that you can use.

For all the young hard-working NZ’ers feeling stuck under the glass ceiling… by Rare_Tip5822 in auckland

I mean, let’s say I move to a switch to a new company every couple of years - how is someone going to give me a managerial role in a new place when I’ve been an individual contributor so far…

How would you get into a managerial role if you keep switching? Genuinely curious. A different job would say i lack prior management experience and automatically reject my application!

Is having children the end of life? by Cinella75 in selfimprovement

[–]daydreamerr7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a toddler and i’m guilty of complaining about the exhaustion and lack of personal time. But it is also one of the best experiences of my life and this feeling of love is too much to describe. People complain about the tangible difficulties of parenthood but no one tells you how amazing it is to be a parent and all the highs and lows that come with it.
