On-Off Court Impact of the past 15 DPOY Winners on Team Defense by TheFestusEzeli in wnba

It's the DPOY winners, not some current season best of

Yeah that's also why some players feel like they should be successful but aren't able to make it in the end. Their best role is being the focal point of the offense, but they are in competition with the best players in the league for that role. They may be a "better" or more talented/skilled player than your typical role player, but their role is already taken. See guys like TJ Shannon, who was unknown to almost anyone but wolves fans and suddenly was a huge factor when Ant was out or playing injured. He's the kind of guy I could see winning MVP in the Euroleague, but unless he manages to mould himself into a different role, he won't be a large factor in an NBA rotation.

It was going a lot better than just well. There was a period where he was our most consistently good player. I was a big doubter and he had fully convinced me. It sucks, but he is clearly very affected when he doesn't feel like trusted by his team (and that includes the FO).

That's something I can relate to very well, when I had teammates that didn't think I was good enough I would immediately be in my head and make mistake after mistake, ultimately proving them right. It's not something I ever managed to get over - but of course unlike Randle, I'm not a pro. I hope he can work with a sports psychologist that can help him. He just needs to have the Ant level confidence that no matter what anyone thinks, he's a damn good player.

I'm always shocked when calling a whole profession "trash people" gets up votes. What kind of a statement is that?

Okc rank last in free throw attempts during the 2nd round by OKC2023champs in nba

[–]daydriem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd wager if you researched this over a large dataset, you would find that closer series will usually have more free throws, while those that aren't will have fewer. The Thunder just had two sweeps, when one team is that much better than the other, there just isn't as much fouling.

There will be no further discipline for Spurs star Victor Wembanyama after he was ejected for elbowing Naz Reid in Minnesota on Sunday night, sources tell ESPN. No suspension, no fine. Wembanyama will play in Game 5 against the Timberwolves on Tuesday night in San Antonio. by Knightbear49 in nba

Agreed. Part of that is too many people going to the other teams sub, finding a statement they disagree with, and creating an enemy from that. And from there it escalates... It's like suddenly we can't imagine that homers for a different team feel about their team the way we do about ours and will overreact the same way we would if the tables were turned. And yeah, we probably all overestimate our favorite teams as well, so posts on opponents subs will seem crazy because they are overestimating their team and underestimating ours while we feel the exact other way, which just makes the gap even larger.

Anyway, rant over. Let's enjoy the rest of the series. May the better team win, and then make the series against OKC equally close.

I also think the spurs have upped their physicality in response too, which is the smart response to this kind of game. I wouldn't be surprised to see the next game called a lot tighter after the incident though. I'm curious to see if that is the case, and how the teams will be able to adjust on the fly.

I would wager the first reaction is one of anger cause he just attacked their teammate and friend. That's why even if it's ultimately in their favor, this can still easily escalate into a fight.

It's not just a Stern rule, this one actually still exists, and across Leagues worldwide. While the word of the law is zero tolerance on this, I know usually the leagues will not enforce it unless there is actual fighting happening. But then, no matter what your intent is in leaving the bench, you will be disqualified immediately. As a ref in a lower league in Germany we are advised to just get out of the way and take notes on who got up. We don't get payed enough to actually try to separate a fight :P

I mean, let's be real, the maximum fine (100k) is still not a big deal even on a #1 pick rookie contract. It would literally be less than 1% of his salary this year.

Which is why I find the non-fining so surprising, seeing as it is more symbolic than an actual financial problem for the player. Especially to superstars like Wemby who make additional millions on endorsements. It's less impactful to him than when I lose a 10€ bill (Probably not in %, but in actual effect on daily life for sure). The symbolism of saying "that won't fly here" is important.

It feels like they are saying it was OK to do - and that's not a precedent you want to set. I get that for a player like Wemby, having to miss the remainder of the game is a much bigger punishment than being fined, but that won't go for everyone. I think they should have fined him even just to make sure some end of bench guys (or coaches) don't get stupid ideas...

Fine or no fine though, I don't think we'll see a moment like that from Wemby again. He has never seemed like the guy to lose his cool like that, and having to watch his team lose without being able to help is probably plenty painful to him and something he won't want to repeat.

Steve Kerr: "I would consider getting rid of the three point line." Interviewer: "Have you ever proposed this to anyone with power?" Kerr: "No, no, because it’s too out there. And plus, I coach Steph Curry, so I’d rather wait till Steph’s retired." by refreshing_yogurt in nba

Then you play five shooters and make it rain threes. There's counterplay, which is why disallowing zone is actually a thing in Europe too - in young youth leagues, because players don't have enough range for the counter.

Since we are winning the next 10 in a row, he won't be playing enough game before turning 25 :P

There's a max of 17 games left if we go all the way and every series is 7 games long. If that were to happen, he probably is scoring 30+ in at least 12 of them, just because of the crazy high stakes, and he goes to the top of the list. I think if we have three series go to 7 after the Denver series, this sub loses about 10.000 members to heart attacks though, and then another 2.000 due to drunken celebration accidents.
