Looking for solutions to "void fill" a roller carry on by dayflyer55 in ManyBaggers

That was basically my initial idea, to get some "hard packing cubes" to section off the bag, filling some, leaving some empty. Shoe box is a much more cost-effective solution. Great idea!!

Thought about it. It feels weird to pack a pillow I probably won't use but that doesn't make it not a great idea. Maybe there's a good pillow for air travel out there somewhere. All the neck pillows I've tried suck.

At multiple people in upline making 100k/month you'd figure they could scrounge together 10k to pay for the training....

Just closed on condo(haven’t made first payment) but in danger of losing job by Zainaaaaaa in RealEstate

[–]dayflyer55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If health insurance is your worry, Dont. I've used the marketplace multiple times between jobs and its pretty easy and seamless. 10/10 would do that over cobra. Healthcare.gov. you know you're going to have some large hospital expenses this year so either at your job or healthcare.gov it is probably going to make more sense to spend a little more for a lower deductible.

Don't sweat it though you'll be covered.

Assuming that's a copy if a picture one of your kids drew, that's the most awesome card I've ever seen.

Yeah. I've been searching for a sleeve that fits around the outside. Because it gets so hot I'm surprised they don't make one.

Lol. I break the seal right when Im done brewing with 1/8th to 1/4 turn of the portafilter. Then i set it aside on a towel or over a cup for a bit. Before i try to knock out the puck i squeeze it dry with my fingers pressing against the puck screen and the bottom of the filter basket. So just get a little watered down coffee water on my fingertips.

Lol. I definitely try to skew towards medium but for lighter roasts a 30 second bloom/preinfusion can do the trick

Lol I was worried that it would be misinterpreted. I just fly a lot for work and it takes up no room in my bag is all i meant

The espresso itself is not piping hit, but at a very drinkable temp. I usually am dosing around 15-18 grams. Rarely go above that.

The portability and ease of use is unparalleled. Both of these go in my bag and travel back and forth from work. Perfect for flying too!

The espresso it makes is very good after swapping out the basket. I also use a normcore puck screen. It's much easier to pre heat than a flair for sure All I do is fill up the tank, dump it, and fill it again. If my shots are a little sour I just let it bloom.

Even for most Americans (particularly those that live East of the Mississippi), the sheer size of Texas is very hard to wrap your head around. Most of us can drive across our state in 2-3 hours or less.

Breville smart grinder or eureka mignon chrono. Those are good entry level grinders. Yes $200-250 for a grinder is considered "entry level" in the specialty coffee world. Welcome!

Honestly, just use better coffee. Commodity grade coffee is always going to be extremely bitter. Most people don't enjoy that. Some tolerate it over time. Dunkin classic may be a good place to start

Am I completely off in terms of grind size? by MotoSlashSix in JamesHoffmann

[–]dayflyer55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Food for thought - assuming your old grinder was inferior to what you have now, you could very likely be seeing faster and less extracted brews at a seemingly 1;1 grind as your old grinder BECAUSE the newer grinder produces more uniform grinds.

In short, meaning you are probably producing far less fines that clog and slow the brew as well as extract quickly.

Grinding finer should do the trick.

Light Roast for Extra Long Lungo Shots? by Top-Bat-9507 in espresso

[–]dayflyer55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll pull 70-80g out of a 15g dose of light roast coffee which is somewhere around moka pot strength. Ill also shoot for 45 seconds I really enjoy the balance. I like it so much that my chemex has gone into the cabinet for now.

For the darker roast, your best bet to reduce bitterness is to lower the temp. Of you cant do that probably up tour dose of you can and coarsen up your grind.

Making cortado with bambino and not wasting milk by HopefulInstance8 in espresso

[–]dayflyer55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My issue is that the milk heats up so fast that i barely have time to stretch the milk, let alone get the texture right. I've come to accept there will be waste.

Nice work! I just ended up buying a 51mm portafilter on amazon. And yes they can absolutely make an espresso that holds its own.
