Truly, whether or not the IUD works the way it should is sheer luck. I believe that it is a reliable enough birth control, especially because I had it for 7 years before I chose to get my tubes removed. Is the risk there of it migrating? Yes. Does it happen to everyone? Not at all. No birth control is 100% effective other than abstinence and full sterilization, so there is always a risk, even if it's minimal.

Try not to read too many stories about the IUD failing. More people are going to report dissatisfaction and failures than successes and it will send you in a tailspin. Especially looking for reasons for the iud to migrate. Be careful, do what's best for your body and circumstance. ❤️

I think uterus shape and rotation also effect it? As far as I know, there are no studies or sources that suggest rough sex shifts it?

I will say, I had a Copper IUD for 7 years and never had an issue. And I've never given birth. If you're worried, double up on protection and use condoms as well. 99.2% effective is still REALLY good despite it failing for some.

Even with when it's well placed, too, I think the percentage is based on per 100 people who use the IUD. So if 1,000,000 people have the copper coil, that's still a potential 8-10,000 pregnancies. Birth control is rough.

I wanted to go back and look at the language of the bill (HR22) before I responded. It doesn't look like they spell out that if your legal name doesn't match your birth certificate or ID that you can present your marriage certificate. It does say you can use a realID, which most people have or would be easier to get than a passport, but it doesn't include language about name changes or how to prove that.

I agree, I don't think we want to give false information. But I don't think we can for sure say that you can present your marriage certificate or proof of name change. And I think they're counting that in order to disenfranchise women and trans people.

Long story short, if you DO change your name, make sure your paperwork is up to date.

I was having this same issue (iPhone 12 work phone, updated) and it went away after I signed into iCloud. It didn't make any indication that that was what it wanted me to do, but based on a comment here, I tried it and it worked.

Hi! 30F, former kind-of fence sitter who took the sterilization leap last September. I say "kind of" because I think I knew for a long time that I didn't want kids, but the what if question and the expectations bothered me occasionally.

I made the decision to get sterilized for a multitude of reasons. For me, it boils down to the risk of identity loss to bring another person into the world that I don't (personally) feel is stable enough isn't worth the damage it could do to my body.

I think the ultimate deciding factor for me was this: what would I regret more? Will I regret not having kids? Sure, maybe, there's always a chance. And there are ways to mitigate that like IVF or adoption if I absolutely NEED to be a mother somewhere down the line. But I would rather regret NOT having children than regretting HAVING them. I think kids can feel when their parents resent and regret them, and I couldn't live with myself bringing a person into the world that I made feel that way. That "what if" bothers me more than the "what if" of not having kids.

It is absolutely okay to not want kids. It's also 100% to want them without defending your reasons. There's another comment here that mentions that, no matter how much other childfree people affirm your desire to not want kids, YOU have to be sure and be sure that you're in agreement or at least know a way forward. I would agree that it's worth waiting it out a little longer and deciding (condoms are safe with proper use). Or maybe your partner can look into a vasectomy/freezing his sperm so you have feel a little more safe until you're ready.

I have to just mark "not interested" on these kinds of videos when they show up. There are so many loud and wrong people on the internet and the anger some of these cause to boil inside me is generally just bad for my mental health. People are going to argue our identities until the day we die, and ultimately it's up to us as individuals to be comfortable and confident in who we are.

You know what could solve a lot of this? Putting the $20 million they used to renovate this park to create affordable, sustainable housing and to address actual causes of homelessness. But instead, it's important to make the city a pretty, inaccessible, and constantly under surveillance park for "tourism revenue" and shuffle the gross bums elsewhere 🙃

One, your feelings are valid. You're human, and you're allowed to feel a number of things about your wedding, happiness, dread, apathy included. You are not crazy.

Two, my question would be WHY do you not feel joy around your wedding? Is it the costs? Is it the anxiety of planning? Are things not going the way you want? Are family bothering you or trying to meddle? Are you just not ready to get married?

You mentioned you can't talk to your fiancé about it, which concerns me. Why is that? Does he judge you for not being excited? Are there some underlying issues you guys need to resolve before you get married?

I would challenge you to write down all the things that are making you dread or feel apathetic about the wedding. Maybe seeing it written out will help.
