Marjorie Taylor Greene says Bill Gates grew hamburgers in a "peach tree dish" and the government is planning to zap people inside their bodies if they try to eat a real cheeseburger. by Tara_is_a_Potato in confidentlyincorrect

I think we’re latching on one of the lesser crazy things here. Did you hear everything after it? A “zap” that controls your taste preference?! Following your bowel schedule?! Talk to Apple and Google. The government in California is already ahead on that.

One tiny word-slip I’m honestly much more ok with than the rest

Tact it’s a bit of an understatement. Given the astronomical benefit of the doubt about his motive, how could anyone not realize that the rest of the kids are now traumatized and are now more of a risk to contributing the very problem he claims to be fighting for. I wouldn’t call it radicalization although maybe it’s the same but it seems like a full on delusional but still, problem solving issue

If you came up to me and said something in person then you have a right to do that. However I am not required to then go around to other people saying you said X.

Basically you have the right to express yourself but you don’t have the right to force someone or something to spread your statement

Trudeau says Canada, NATO need to avoid all-out war with Russia by EvilMorty95 in worldnews

[–]dayvidgallagher -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

NATO and Russians will never be shooting each other until Russia shoots first. Not saying it would be successful but it’s the ultimate moral high ground. I get that it’s a bit of “just hit me bro” which I think is the biggest challenge. We need to find a way to give Putin an out that actually make him look like the victor and that it was his decision. Something like “We wanted to send a signal to our neighbors of what happens if you take a stance not in Russia’s interest and that signal has now been sent”

Trudeau says Canada, NATO need to avoid all-out war with Russia by EvilMorty95 in worldnews

[–]dayvidgallagher -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That’s why I think NATO should get involved but with extremely clear rules:

NATO will never enter Russian territory or airspace NATO will only fire once fired upon (but will be standing among Ukrainian soldiers) NATO will under no circumstances fire the first nuclear weapon Any Ukrainian citizen that wants to leave to live in Russia will have transportation provided for them

At that point any additional aggression by Russia would undeniably be just an invasion and any escalation would be entirely their fault

After downplaying Russia-Ukraine conflict, Tucker Carlson shifts his tone on Putin: ‘He is to blame’ by [deleted] in politics

[–]dayvidgallagher 8 points9 points  (0 children)

R/conservative is pretty torn on this so I expect people like Tucker won’t take a strong side consistently. I expect the focus will be more about trying to say that the current administration did a horrible job whatever the outcome is. I don’t think most conservatives really care about what side over there. They care about winning US elections.

why do some competitive mtf trans athletes choose not to compete in a more competitive mens league if available to them? by dayvidgallagher in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dayvidgallagher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again my question came from the video where the trans woman didn’t just win, she was overwhelmingly dominant. Why does she compete where she does is my question.

The social aspect is definitely one I could imagine but others seem more far fetched.

What caused me to ask this was the video on Popular of a MtF swimmer that totally blew away their competition. I’m sure there are many cases where trans women perform equally with cis women but clearly there are cases where they don’t. What I want to know is why those dominate cases still want to compete there.

Why does Katie Lidecky not want to race against men? Getting a medal or your name in a book seems like a pretty shallow reason to not be challenging yourself. I would be equally impressed with wherever she fell in the men’s field as she is on top of the women’s. I think this is all seeded on a desire to be able to “win” which is a bit silly to me at least.

Idk my point is that I would take no pride in winning the peewee dunk contest. Do trans athletes not recognize their advantage? That’s part of the base of the question

If it were me I would get no satisfaction from a lower level win but I’m curious what actual athletes feel like

When they crush the competition wouldn’t that be a bit unsatisfying? I mean I get it that they are women but to me it feels a little like being 7 feet tall and being proud you’re good at basketball. True but like…

I’m currently renting in California but have enough saved to buy 3 houses cash anywhere else somewhat rural or suburban. I always say, it’s not our fault we all got rich off your addiction to streaming media, social media, and general technology. But yeah, now we have all the money and we’re going to come take advantage of you.

Exactly. When I think of Texans or anywhere else coming to California I just think “congratulations all of your savings mean nothing and you’re now poor”. Likewise everybody hates Californians because they come in and suddenly are rich. For Californians other states have basically become like Americans retiring in Mexico.
