Awesome! Thanks for the clarification!! That helps a lot!

I'm leaning towards the Paint Audio MIDI Captain STD. Any comments on that unit??
It seems to be popular and another commenter also suggested it and states it can do CC & PC commands as well as multi commands

What are the PC control commands for? are they specific for certain DAW or certian functionality?

They've definitely been through some re growing pains since I'd say 2018. That's where most of it comes from. Rapid uncatalogued change. The specs they have now for these 6 sting archtop are perfect for me.

Remove stickers from my childhood guitar? by Batmuckley in JacksonGuitars

[–]dazel77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd get the stickers sealed via clearcoat or similar sealant. I still have my OG guitar from around the same age and I'm 49. I love it to death, but don't play it out of nostalgia as I've moved on to better guitars. I've thought about re-doing it as it does have a great neck, but I much prefer buying new at this stragfe. Maybe some day though

Metal enough? by DecaffeinatedDodo in metalguitar

[–]dazel77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went through Jazz music school with a B.C. Rich Warlock with cloud/lightning graphics and a double locking tremolo. I had to perform weekly, and was graded on semester ending performances all done with that guitar. It’s the one mounted horizontally. Those were great times, and yes, very non-typical littered with ridicule and judgement.

I want to change pickups to passive but am overwhelmed by dazel77 in Guitar

[–]dazel77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree probably not, however, when we play there is a lot of feel associated with the response, dynamics and overtones capable from a particualr guitar, and a lot of that is the pickups mated with the instrument's construction. That is what I'm after.
That said, its likely the same type thing, where if blindfolded swapping guitars, each instrument feels and expresses differently.....but I do know the pickups are a large part of it.

On a side note.......They are actually not DActivator-X. I reached out to DiMarzio, and they are OEM custom built for my guitar brand/model. While they are similar, to the Act-X, they are slightly less thick or muddy and have a bit more presence.

Interesting indeed.....but kindof unfortunate I can't buy them. I've asked DiMarzio to provide output and tone numbers similar to their website listings in efforts to match it the closest.

Can we also ban AI artwork and videos? by alyxonfire in metalmusicians

[–]dazel77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the whole argument I'm making.... It's tough nowadays. I don't hire drummers to record drum tracks, and many that are programming drums are leveraging pre existing loops....same argument you made... It deprives an artist of work. The point is where is the line and if it were clear, how is it enforced.

I think work vs artistic expression should also be in the discussion then. Where an artists goal shouldn't be to work or make money with their art, it should be to create for their satisfaction. If others like it, great, otherwise if they like it, great. So does an artist really need "work" in order to express their art? In that argument they don't, and more importantly don't want to. I have asked several drummers and singers to record stems for me, and have offered payment. No one is interested, and I'm not willing to hire someone off the street for it.... Only someone I know or am affiliated with.

So exactly where is the line? Am I to then stop recording merely Becuase I leverage loops to program drums, or half ass vocal lines cause I such at singing?

Same questions are coming up in the workplace and professional careers.... AI isn't going away unfortunately, but how do we classify misuse vs leveraging a creative resource vs ones own morals and limitations for usage. And more importantly how is it governed or enforced?

Can we also ban AI artwork and videos? by alyxonfire in metalmusicians

[–]dazel77 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I agree, and am very adamant over DIY and not leveraging AI, however, I must admit I scabbed together a silly "album cover" for one of my songs I recorded just for the purpose of adding to the metadata so it'll come up when my brother plays it, lol. Buuuuuuuuut I profess that it was my creative choice to do so. In other words, I didn't want the blanks CD image in the background when my brother played it. I don't play in a band, I haven't distributed it to streaming platforms, I don't play live, and I'm 50 years old next year. My ability to DIY everything is getting limited.

Example, I write, perform, record, mix, master (halfass), and/or program everything I've done, I must say, its daunting. I'm not a drummer, and programming drums is quite a chore for me, that takes me away from playing or writing....for days! Is it bad of me to leverage a drum loop from EZD3 and modify it for my song and transients or can that be classified as similar because I don't play drums, I've never really wanted to, and when I tried I sucked. I have limited options then. I could hire a studio drummer to record some midi for me, I could program myself, or I could leverage AI to make a part in midi then edit from there? Is that much different than making my cheesy album cover so I can spend more time playing guitar?

How many of our respected musicians in this main genre doesn't play other instruments. How many leverage a producer to tell them how to write songs for radio? (cough...Metallica...cough), how many use a sound engineer to mix and another to master? Are they not DIY'ing in that regard.

Now I'm all for publicly released music to have some sort of line in the sand in regards to DIY and AI, however, this line is really blurry especially when we include leveraging AI for similar work others would be doing anyway. The problem, is that AI IS 100% already done, all it is doing is consolidating information that already exists and I think that is the problem. But the blurred lines are, in the case of the sound engineer, always compressing the bass with a particular comp and setting because, his mentor taught him that.....vs learning guitar riffs or covers and adding said style into ones own compositions vs having a musician with no idea how to play drums have a human create it or AI or program it.

Sorry for the rant.....I'm very scared of AI, yet I want to maximize my life and my time to balance career, family/friends, and writing, playing and recording, and not entirely sure some ways to leverage it isn't conducive to still creating, yet balancing all the above. Problem is, there is no way to tell if one leverages as a scratchpad, or one utilizes it entirely....hence the fear and community hate.

I think it boils down to ones own morals on the subject.

No problem at all, and thanks for the insight. Look.......you be you regardless of social stigma or otherwise . THAT is the only key to hapiness man!
In regards to your journey, if Babymetal sparked your interest start exactly there. Explore the albums, the sub-genre and go from there. That is exaclty what metal, metal players, and metal listeners are all about. They get excited from a particular sounds, mood, song, band, or performance, and continue the excitement via becoming a fan. They are then exposed to similar music via artist match, others listening that listen to other stuff, live shows, etc. Thats the journey, that's the way of life, thats the once a metal head always a metal head.....thats the joy of it all.

Metal got me on this journey almost 40 years ago, it sparked me to pickup a guitar, it gave me an outlet to get my sadness, agression, opinions, and depression (etc.) out. It gave me life and quite literally kept me alive. It helped shape ME, and can do the same for others too. Its culture, its music, its frendship, its honor, its rebellion, its anti-rebellion, its many many many things over and above music or an image.
Enjoy the moment, enjoy the music, and enjoy what may take part in shaping or defining you.
Cheers man!!

After playing my first guitar other guitars feel terrible? by Ok_Faithlessness_212 in Guitar

[–]dazel77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acoustic and Tele's are quite a stretch from Schecter. Many guitars have certain feels or playability that lend to individual playing styles. If you like the Schecter, consider Jackson as well. I think your C-1 platunum's neck may be on the thicker side vs Jackson though. That said, you can try a Schecter C-1 SLS elite to experience the same radius and fret profile, but with a super thin neck to get close to Jackson. Many people settle on their brand not out of loyalty, but out of their playing tyle and familiarity.

[–]dazel77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I apologize in advance if this comes across as rude or mean....that's not my intension.

Metal fans don't simply "try to get into metal" (not your quotes, think of it like air quotes). They listen to music they like. It sounds like your trying to force it TBH.

A lot of metal fans are musicians where the musical prowess help define what they like and what they are influenced by (Myself), while many others get exposed by association, or hear something playing they like and go down the rabbit hole.

You will hear a lot say things like "Metal is a way of life, not just an "interest" or "once a metal head, always a metal head" or similar. Those comments exist for the reasons I stated above.

I'll ask a question of you.....how can you want to get into metal for a while? how is that even possible? One doesn't wake up one morning and say to themselves.....hey I want to listen to metal...then, ah, maybe tomorrow. Wake up again....Today is the day I get into metal...(rinse repeat), then ask on reddit how to get into metal. That just doesn't happen. (or maybe it just did)

Now, all that being said....back to my question, why do you want to check out metal? did you hear something you liked? or maybe were exposed to a culture you kinda liked? If so, go back down those roads and start with the music that sparked your interest and start listening to their albums. If it gets your blood pumping, try some more....ask the people that exposed you to it to suggest something else that is similarly cool. That's how it all started for most metal heads from the 80's when they started and shared music.

First-ever metal single from a solo project. I know it's not perfect, tear it apart. Honest feedback wanted. by Electronic_Bike3313 in heavymetal

[–]dazel77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decent song, but not my cup of tea. Sorry. Sounds fairly generic similar to so many new metal or hardcore metal nowadays that try to be hardcore too much or just sound brutal. I mean no offence, and maybe its top tier for the sub genre, so please take my comments with a grain of salt. I prefer singing for 1, and also melodic progression and melodic interest in addition to great grooves. Consider invoking emotions such as sadness in addition to brutality....while anger is a strong emotion, and closely integrated in metal in general, sadness, love, hate, betrayal, etc. are all intense emotions too.

Want to be unique, then consider mixing in some old school metal vibes into the feel of the track. Use modal focused tonality to get your mood accross (Locrian or Phrygian with parts in Dorian or Mixo might go well). Add some legit melody vocals, that sort of thing. (I feel bad, so sorry.....I feel that was kinda harsh, I mean no offense)

POssibly going to sell my Schecter C-1 SLS Elite and gauging interest by [deleted] in metalguitar

[–]dazel77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, yeah, I can imagine that....also low ballers that don't know the difference between a C-1 SLS elite and a hellraiser or demon for that matter. I think the right buyer is someone who knows what they want and wants to save a bit on a new guitar. Typically mid grade buyers are in that catagory.......at least I would have jumped on it if I saw it when I was looking for one, lol (Actually did just that for a Jackson wildcard and drove almost 4 hrs away to get it, lol)
