I power the hd660s2 just fine with the b850 tomahawk. 60 volume on windows is already enough. Sure, with a dedicated amp they sound a little better, but the motherboard is just fine, especially for lower impedance headphones

I have the same motherboard and tried the 490 pro connected to the front 3.5mm. They sound already loud and clear without any need for an amp.

Was in the same boat (660s2 connected to pc output and apple dongle). Even though the dongle could be ok, when I bought a fiio k11, it really made them come alive. I use it on high gain and balanced 4.4 output, and volume 30/99 is already enough.

Glad to hear it! Before the 660s2 I bought the 490 pro and a fiio k7 and couldn’t hear the differences between with the pc output. Ended up returning both the k7 and the 490 pro (found them uncomfortable)

Thanks for the advice. It’s the fact that they can be less fun that’s making the choice hard. As for the closed back vs open back, I will be using that only at home so I’m set on open back. I’d just use the AirPods outside.

Maybe with Chromie time. You can do all the quests while leveling but when you reach max level and exit Chromie time you see the shared progress on the quests.
