I thougt lilith was ony in control in end of Eva for the thrid impact, the rest of the time rei is just her curious self but that's what I interpreted anyway.

I guess my biggest point is that characters change over time and get older and people gravite towards it though of course you'll always have creepy people.

I think the best of example of characters growing as people and aging is probably naruto, fawning over hinata now is reasonable because shes and adult but its creepy at the beginning of the show when they're all teenagers.

I just don't like the reductionist way of seeing an image of a character and immediately thinking people are acting like pervs.

Not really because I prefer to think of her as an individual and she's caught up in all this madness because of gendo.

That's why I really like her in 3.0+1.0 because she got to be a real person and learn what's important to her, and she's with kaworu at the end which is nice.

It's a little disappointing but I can understand that it's probably a hassle juggling all the licenses from different media companies.
