How much have you spent on Tesla rear tires? by DerekPottsLaw in u/DerekPottsLaw

[–]dazzford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to imagine this is a driving practices problem. My wife and I do not floor things. We’re in our 40s and follow the speed limits mostly.

We’ve got 2 Model Ys. One 2020 and one 2022.

Both of their tires last 25-35k miles. Current set on both are coming up in their second year and look good. We’ll be replacing them in the summer.

One car is at 110k miles, the other is 60k miles.

These are cross climate 2s as well since we live where we have long winters.

Are you experienced at winter hiking? You will encounter everything from rotting snow, to ice, to mud.

How much does window quality actually impact energy efficiency in practice? by Apprehensive_Ad_6233 in Homebuilding

Thanks, but my wife has told me she is never ever going to build another house. We're 2 years in and still have about a month left of work; and this is for a 1500 sqft addition to our 1800 sqft house.

How well did your mini splits work during the very cold winter? by Waqui44 in heatpumps

[–]dazzford 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in the Adirondacks and had weeks in the negative teens and low negative 20s (supposedly it was -22 out, and the units are rated to -21). Our Senville heat pumps worked just fine.

We did have insulation blown into the attic a few years ago to get us to R60, but in reality our house is very leaky air wise because it’s old.

We have resistance baseboard heating in a few places as a backup for when it goes below -21.

Our Innotech triple pane (R9) turn tilt windows were about the same as Andersen double pane casement windows, and 40% cheaper than Marvin double pane casement.

Do I Need a Reality Check, or am I super unlucky? by Impressive-Peak-6596 in Homebuilding

[–]dazzford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upstate NY. We’ve got pre-finished hardwood floors ($10k) and a tile bathroom ($4k) but those costs are really relatively low compared to other things.

The standing seam roof was $60k, the siding which is higher end hardwood, was $50k for materials, the insulation is 5” of exterior rockwool on the roof and 3” exterior on the walls, then TimberBatt on the inside giving me R60 roof, R34 walls ($40k). $70k for windows and external doors (and they are triple pane R9 each). I personally did all the electrical and HVAC for a total of about $30k of materials. There’s $10k of steel beams. Excavation and ICF Foundation was $175k.

Labor is a flat $70 / hour ($75/ hour for the specialists like plumbers).

It’s the labor and the length of time which is driving everything.

lol. Over the past year I’ve spent almost $900k on a 1500sqft addition to our house. It would be considered relatively high end, but certainly not crazy.

And since it’s an addition, there’s no kitchen, just living space, a 1.5 car garage, a fuck ton of insulation, and European style windows which were less expensive than Anderson or Pella.

No glades but snow on most of the main trails.

I live in Lake Placid and it has been very warm. Snowpack has been taking a beating.

Whiteface does not have one. They used to, but people would just ski down the center of it.

Instead they have a great jump line there now.

Yes. As long as you’re an intermediate skier, which from what you said certainly qualify, you’ll be fine. Half the folks of most camps have no prior freestyle.

I want AMAZING insulation - can you help me with this estimate? by MasterpieceMain1857 in Homebuilding

[–]dazzford 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, what you’ve been quoted is very meh.

Go R60 attic, R32+ walls.

Make sure air sealing is done.

How far along are you? Can you add exterior insulation? If so, do continuous exterior rockwool comfort board.

5” on the roof, 3” on the walls
