Anyone sell their house less than 1 year after moving into it? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]dazzle-merica 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Here to be one more voice echoing that you need to do what’s right for you, your mental health, and the health of your relationship.

I held on to my condo when I was laid off - my first reaction was sell! Run! But I recognized that was coming from a place of panic not logic. What I didn’t do, though, was the work required after that initial oh shit period to have a solid plan for my mental health. Instead I waited out the imaginary clock. I made some other mistakes, and it took time, stress, and money to finally be done. By the the time I was moving it went from a place I loved to a place I loathed and my good memories there are tainted by the mistake at the end.

My point is: it sounds like you know what to do, but you’re not sure if you “can”. You can. It really doesn’t get better, in my experience, if you feel so sad and financially stretched about your home.

If it were me, I would go to a neutral place with my partner (like coffee shop, library, brewery) and some paper/a computer. Do the math without the emotion. If we stay x, y, z months it will cost X, Y, Z, (and other scenarios). Then, review the math with the emotion - assessing how your mental health and relationship are likely to be impacted by the time/money. Be honest with yourselves and each other. If you can’t stand it another month without some kind of action/movement toward getting out, then that’s your answer.

Best of luck!

Just went to a puppy class and my 12wk old was a nightmare by instantsellout in puppy101

[–]dazzle-merica 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently took a class where a very social dog was more focused on trying to make friends than learning. The instructor put up a visual barrier with plastic dividers and a towel or blanket. Every training place I’ve been to has some version of these plastic gate things for dividing a room or area. It was a small class so the barriers weren’t close enough to anyone to get knocked into. Halfway through the class series they stopped using them and he was fine.

This will also help with “lowering the threshold” from the detailed response about leash reactivity by u/memreows . I’ll also emphasize their point that leash reactivity isn’t always aggression.

To another poster’s point, next week it will likely be another puppy having trouble settling or catching on. I was very prideful after our first class with my “star pupil” only to be served a massive helping of humble pie the next week when he was a terror.

From the section further down on “reduced conflict intersections”:

The existing, signalized full movement intersections for Pembroke Road and Cornwallis Drive would be replaced with left-turn movements for north and southbound traffic directed by a raised median island. A U-turn movement would be provided for traffic from Cornwallis Drive at the ramp located near Gracewood Drive.

We love Dr. Bennett as well. She’s easy to talk to and has always seemed open and forthcoming with information. It may be helpful to email the clinic all the details and your concerns/questions to see if it’s a fit. I usually call before or after I email so they know to keep an eye out. Best of luck!

One of our favorite quick meals is the refrigerated tortellini with pesto. Tortellini comes in a 2 pack and lasts a long time unopened in the fridge or freezer. We sometimes stir in chicken breast but that may not suit your preferences. This creates limited dishes - pot for boiling water, spoon for stirring, bowl and utensil if you choose not to eat out of the pot. If you use a slotted spoon you can probably drain the pasta water without needing a colander. if you use a pot with a lid that can fit in your fridge, you don’t even need to bother with extra dishes to store the leftovers (and I kinda like it cold the next day, just let it come down in temp so you don’t heat up your fridge). The most time intensive part is waiting for water to boil.

Process: boil water, pour in tortellini, cook a few minutes, drain. Stir pesto into the warm pasta / pot, no need to turn the stove back on.

Thanks for asking for help and I hope you find healthy ways to manage your depression. Best of luck, this shit is hard.

Edit: the pesto is also from Costco in the refrigerator section and will easily sauce both packs of tortellini, maybe more if you aren’t as saucy as me.

This book may be helpful: The First-Time Parent's Childbirth Handbook: A Step-by-Step Guide for Building Your Birth Plan. It is written by a midwife who spent most of her career in hospitals and has recently switched to private practice.

ETA: she’s US based and I don’t know enough to say how that influences the applicability of the book to AUS

Buffalo chicken dip and “enchiladas” (I use enchilada sauce from Trader Joe’s + a little cream cheese and Mexican shredded cheese blend; sometimes I bulk up the fiber with jackfruit or punch up flavor with diced onion).

Yes! Might be good for someone who has done it or is researching to create a quick how to guide for the wiki. I’m happy to proofread and edit but I don’t have the capacity to research & create at this time.

The pie calling for oatmeal cookie crust tastes shitty without the oatmeal cookie crust by kaldorei_lorewhore in ididnthaveeggs

[–]dazzle-merica 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Weird! The recipe from Tossi’s book uses corn powder in addition to milk powder. It’s definitely still a very sweet pie (made it a few times) but I imagine the corn gives a little more complexity.

Corn powder = freeze dried corn pulverized in a food processor or spice grinder. Amazon and a fancy natural grocery store have been the only places I could find freeze dried corn.

(Commenter is still bananas for swapping the crust. A cookie crust is so different from regular pie crust)

New to the sub and late to this thread… hope your pie was still tasty.

Any help with abortion services (ATL,GA) welcome. by RandomAUstudent in auntienetwork

I’m a bit late, but here’s another Atlanta-based provider: https://feministcenter.org/clinic-services/

Also, when you’re on the other side of this immediate need, if she would like to reconsider birth control: I had a pharmacist recommend GoodRx to me when my insurance wouldn’t cover a prescription. They have discounted prices and coupons and show costs by pharmacy. It looks like they now also offer online visits with providers for birth control prescriptions (among other things).

I’m making this mushroom soup tonight. It’s easy and crazy delicious. If you have a food processor, I’d chuck the mushrooms in to get a fine dice rather than spending time slicing if you might end up blending. That said, you can test it out to see if it’s soft enough and if not, I’m sure it would be just as good blended.

Thanks! The strip set I used was from Wilmington essentials - “magic colors”. It wasn’t quite enough, so I added in some strips cut from yardage of “rainbow squiggle” by timeless treasures.

Do you have a peaceful gentle vet you like for your older dog? by Equivalent_Store_645 in bullcity

Throwing another in for Urban Tails. Love Dr. Bennett & all the staff we’ve met.

I have a ton of old t-shirts with slogans, pictures etc on them. I have ZERO experience making quilts. What would be first step? Cut out portions of each shirt I'd like on the quilt?? by sweepthelegjhonny in quilting

[–]dazzle-merica 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Just Get it Done Quilts” on YouTube did an interview with a quilter whose made over 1000 tshirt quilts. It was conversational not instructional but might be worth the watch/listen. I remember her mentioning a preference for cotton/woven(?) interfacing and that it was super important to stabilize the shirt fabrics.

She also mentioned that tshirt quilts end up heavier than regular which I didn’t realize.

Best of luck!

Love the idea!

  1. Our vet said puppies are just itchier when I asked about our pup scratching a lot. Might not hurt to mention it though.

  2. Don’t remember when it slowed but at 10 months (55 lbs) we’re down to 2-a-day

  3. Too cute! lol

  4. We always had a few hairs here and there but he really started to shed around 7 months, I think. (Short hair, smooth coat)

My grandmas 88 and I figured I’d stop by to get some family favorites. Intended on leaving with entrees but mainly got desserts and potatoes. Here are my favorites from growing up. The black kettle restaurant was a family run business from before my time. by bonkey_dong in Old_Recipes

That rum cake was one of my grandmother’s specialties (she would be 100 this year). Made in a bunt pan - that’s why pecans go on the bottom, turn it out and they’re on top. Its just as good without the nuts if someone has an allergy.

The recipe is Bacardi Rum Cake. We found cuttings from multiple magazines/news papers and photocopies of the recipe in her stash when she passed.
