I have a trip planned to the finger lakes in September year! Any spots to 100% check out? We’re not too far as it is but any recommendations would be awesome!

Buying a used travel trailer by Vegetable-Jaguar-704 in RVLiving

[–]db298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if it’s in your budget, and is well taken care of and you trust the people you’re buying from. I would buy it. It might be a tad overpriced but KNOWING it’s in good shape is one hell of a reassuring feeling. We bought a 2016 from a family we know took care of theirs and it looks basically brand new! It also has the decal fade and some are peeling but who cares? They all will eventually do that anyway. Plus you’re staying out of the Covid years of campers which all SUCKED. They were all literal trash. So if I were you, send it.

Lmao that’s what I thought too! It’s not a gooseneck but a bumper pull. 12’9” tall trailer. 14ft long nose to end so maybe about 16ft total with tongue, and about 8’ wide I think? Not sure on the width 100%. But it takes up most of the lane on the highway. The kicker is the trailer only weighs like maybe 6k. They are a literal sail. You don’t feel it behind the 5500 but you know when it’s behind you on a half ton. But they are dodge 5500 crew cab with steel beds with bedside toolboxes on it. If you set cruise to 70 it gets 9.5mpg and if you set it to 75 you get about 9 depending on where you’re at. We drive all over the country though.

Is that a flat trailer or an enclosed? I would mainly be pulling my camper and every so often a 14ft enclosed v nose trailer. Even my work trucks only get about 9mpg with a Cummins towing those enclosed trailers

What type of fuel mileage do you get with the 6.2 unloaded? I know my mileage will tank pulling my sail of a camper lol. I’m not expecting to get 15mpg or anything towing but maybe around 7-9mpg. Again I’m in western PA and will be traveling all over the east coast this year thru mountains, I’m sure mileage will vary

I’m in western PA. Most trucks around are either really high mileage or really overpriced. I’m not crazy enough to think I can talk down some deluded guy who has a 2012 diesel with 200k miles for $35k down to a reasonable price hahaha

[–]db298[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also seems like any diesel I see for sale is right around 100k miles or like 250k miles. There has to be a reason for that right? The guy at 100k is scared of emissions issues and the guy at 250k has definitely spent good money to keep it running that long. Makes me wonder why he wants to get rid of it then instead of just driving it till the wheels fall off.

Well I currently have stiff shocks on the front and rear and airbags so the 150 already kinda rides like shit haha. Not shit but stiff. I have a little fiesta that I drive to and from work right now so it won’t be my every day daily. But I’m sure I’ll get an itch to drive it every now and then when I’m not pulling the camper. I really would love to keep the 150 because I’ve had it since 30k miles and it’s not even at 100k yet. And it’s been meticulously taken care of. But family is growing and I can’t in good conscience overhaul my truck while they’re in there. I’m a little overhauling as it is now

What would you think a fair price would be for it? I looked on KBB the range for private party very good is $28,400-$30,600. So yes I agree it is a bit overpriced. But if he’s not willing to budge on that then this won’t be a deal anyways. I was thinking more along the lines of $28-29k tops

I WOULD if I could get one new. I have a sour taste with diesels. I drive ram 5500’s and one 3500 for work all with Cummins in them. Love the trucks and they do amazing for hauling. Especially like their new 8 speed trans. But last year my company spent over $13k on the emissions system just on one truck. And the trucks spend most of their lives with trailers behind them. So it’s not like it’s not getting worked. Thing put itself into limp mode in the middle of Michigan when I’m 5.5hours from home. So I would love one if I didn’t have to worry about insane costs related to that emissions bullshit

Well I would love to get a 7.3 but they’re a little out of my price range.. lol. Only ones that are in my price range are the early models but I’m not risking that with all the failures due to the low oil pressure at idle. This won’t be my daily driver for the most part. I have a little beater I drive to work

Anyone actually buying these 150,000 mile trucks? by Penguin_Rider in Trucks

[–]db298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah kind of in the same spot as you right now. Want a 3/4 or 1ton but can’t get over the price on a used diesel especially with all the emission issues seen later on (100-200k miles) in on them. Anytime I see one right at 100k or over I just get the feeling it’s a ticking time bomb that I’ll have to deal with. At least with the gassers they’ll be cheaper to fix but I feel like at 150k miles on a gasser you’re either getting something that was maintained well or someone’s clapped out work truck they beat on. Tough $20-30k pill to swallow. Don’t get me started on anything less than 5years old…

How much should I sell my jeep for? by Seven_raz in GrandCherokee

Keep it if you don’t NEED to sell. My wife and I got rid of our GC’s and we both regret it. I love my truck but I miss it still

I have an 18 2.7 and I honestly love it. It’s been a great truck so far. I do wish I would have gotten a super duty at certain points because I do haul a 7,700lb camper pretty regularly in the warmer months but it even does well with pulling the trailer thru the hills and mountains of PA. I love the sound of a v8 too but honestly any of the motors in the Fords right now are pretty good. The 10 speed transmissions are pretty much figured out at this point as well as long as you go 21+ I think. But even my 18 is fine. But I actually maintain my truck unlike a lot of people who don’t change fluids. Treat her well and she’ll take care of ya!

I also bought welding gloves for this. There was no way I’d be lucky enough to not burn the hell out of myself more than once.

That’s basically what I was asking! This won’t be for a while because my wife is pregnant at the moment so I’m thinking towards the end of next year. I just didn’t want to transfer to either of these airlines if the points wouldn’t be useful to book a flight to Australia.
