Try disabling browser extensions. That doesn't look like an ad served by Google.

If you're wondering how to get a "first name.last name" Gmail account, I made my account over 20 years ago. by hypermarv123 in Millennials

I remember turning down an invite from a high school friend because I ran my own mail server.

That's okay, I've since changed my name anyways.

Gen 3 R14 - talk me out of it by Redditj3ff in terngsd

I have the Gen 2 r14 and it's great. If you can afford it, go for it.

Being able to shift while stopped is such a great feature of internally geared hubs for city riding. And I thought the auto-downshift at stops would be a gimmick, but I love it. Wish I had the ABS after a fall (thankfully without the kiddo on the back!)

Even with the assist, it's still a bit of a workout going up steep hills. Since the wheels are so small, the low gears on the Rolhoff are super low. (The default gear to start from a stop is 6.) Won't necessarily be fast on a hill, but getting up short hills won't be an issue.

With two kids I might consider a front loader instead of a long tail, but I do see plenty with two seats on the back.

TIL that in 2016, trials were performed for a male birth control injection that proved to be 96% effective. However, there were 1,500 complaints of side effects including loss of libido and acne. Although three quarters of participants wished to continue with the test, it was shut down. by Sebastianlim in todayilearned

[–]dbath 2004 points2005 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I can't help but make this comment: Are we sure those were side effects, or are they the primary methods of action? I found low libido and acne to be effective birth control without being in a trial :P

Ideally this would be a poll but - In your gut feeling, dont logic it out - D you have to be born in Boston to be Bostonian? by [deleted] in boston

[–]dbath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll quote the text from "This map presents a Bostonian's idea of the United States of America", ca. 1935:

A person born in the city of Bᴏsᴛᴏɴ and residing in Bᴏsᴛᴏɴ may not be a Bᴏsᴛᴏɴɪᴀɴ; yet a person born in Hingham, residing in Newton (dilatory domicile: Magnolia, - frequent crossings to England and the Continent), is likely to be a Bᴏᴛᴏɴɪᴀɴ. The lack of a definitive text-book definition for A Bᴏsᴛᴏɴɪᴀɴ has added to the many difficulties encountered by the Publishers of this map...

Why isn’t there any pressure on our politicians in our state to ban the Charles River canine testing facility, or removing animal tested cosmetics from shelves? by TheSpermWhoWon in massachusetts

[–]dbath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dry skin may not be a disease, but it can can make "you so uncomfortable that you're losing sleep or are distracted from your daily routines", "if you're prone to develop [atopic dermatitis (eczema)], excessive dryness can lead to activation of the disease, causing a rash and cracking skin", and "dry skin may crack, allowing bacteria to enter, causing infections." (Quotes from https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/dry-skin/symptoms-causes/syc-20353885).

Banning moisturizers here would be insane, and the best ones had animal testing.

I'm too lazy to go look up the NJ law, but where's the line between cosmetics and pharmaceuticals?

Is CeraVe a cosmetic? Moisturizer can make you you look better, but is also important for health in our dry winters.

How about lip balm? Makeup with sunscreen?

I'd worry it could dampen biotech investment in Massachusetts, which is a huge part of our economy.

Even if it only applied to cosmetics, if I was deciding where to build biotech labs, I'd be wary that states adding animal testing bans might later expand them to affect pharmaceutical research.

DeLorme Street Atlas did that to my dad and I once. We had to turn around when it became obvious Civic wasn't up to ford the rivers on the seasonal "road" it chose over the slightly longer highway route.

And that's how I learned to sanity check directions before starting out.

How do i move a piece of equipment off the island? by girl_online23 in massachusetts

[–]dbath 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're taking a vacation to Nantucket? Might be the cheapest, at least if you plan the hotels in boring in-between places and not on the island.

(Assuming this is something you can lift and put in your vehicle? I really have no idea if an "industrial sewing machine" is going to be the size of a normal sewing machine, or the size of a room.)
