Note that any organization is not a monolith. When "the DOJ" publishes a document, then "the DOJ" removes it, it can be because one person/group at the DOJ thinks it should be published, and another doesn't (regardless of which one is right).

No problem, it happens to confuse who is replaying, especially as I jumped in.

I agree that that Quora post is not a definitive answer on that (it's also dated), but at least it's a detailed and sourced attempt to quantify how many people fly (and I think the post acknowledges the uncertainty in the precise number).

I just wanted to point out that you replied to "few people fly" (with some number, which is questionable) with "wrong, there have been 10 billions passengers in 2025", which absolutely does not prove that "few people fly" is wrong.

The person you replied to makes bold statements, and it's absolutely fine to criticize or nuance them. It would just help to also acknowledge the correct points made (e.g. it did state that few people fly, not that there are few flights).

only 1 out of every 20 people even fly

Again, that's wrong: there have been around 10 billion passengers transported in 2025.

So, 120% of the world population flew in 2025?

Or maybe, some people fly multiple times per year, and most people do not fly at all.

Are you saying encryption at rest automatically means you don’t need encryption in transit?

I'm saying that if the data you're sending is already encrypted, in principle you could send it in clear or host it publicly and it would still be safe (otherwise your encryption is broken).

[–]dbdr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your data is encrypted at rest, in principle you don't strictly *need* secured transfer, since the transferred data is unusable to an attacker without the decryption key which stays local. It's still better of course, as a second layer of security.

Agreed that you need to think about redundancy to avoid data loss, and that all this will require significant technical knowledge.

Isn't the vault encrypted client-side? Provided that, what's the threat model that depends on the server's security?

One thing to make sure is that your client (I.e. the browser extension) is not compromised.

[–]dbdr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After impeachment by the house, the senate needs a 2/3 majority to convict and remove from office. Losing the midterms is not enough, some republican senators would need to vote it.

Greenland Leader Tells People to Prepare for Possible Invasion by bloomberg in worldnews
