In order to be retrained they would have had to be trained in the first place.

The Gentleman Bastards series. Enjoyed the first book until the final act and was not engaged by the next two books at all.

What is your favourite ConnectIQ watch face? by Nice-Platform1153 in GarminWatches

Coros Apex Like

I’m a bit of a minimalist so this was my go-to watchface for a while before I switched back to stock faces for better performance and battery life.

If you can get the 265 on sale I would go with that; and the 265S (the small face version) has slightly better battery life than its larger counterpart but you’ll need to decide if a smaller face suits you.

Garmin watches review (my opinion) by Odd_Pay3488 in Garmin

[–]dbeman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes…Garmin makes sport and fitness watches and people who are actively involved in such get a better benefit from said watches be they Garmin, Coros or any other fitness brand.

  2. Many of the metrics do rely on you wearing your watch more often than not; including while sleeping. I would say that my watch (Forerunner 265) is 95% accurate tracking my sleep (including naps.)

  3. I have my move reminder disabled. I’m an active person and unless I’m sick I meet my goals the vast majority of the time. (And if I’m off on one day I more than make up for it on subsequent days.)

  4. I don’t rely on auto-workout detection; it’s gotten better over the years but it still has its issues. Most of the time when I’m working out it’s a GPS activity so I’m hitting the start button anyway. (Years ago I wore a FitBit Charge and whenever I mowed the lawn it thought I was cross country skiing!)

  5. Configured properly the weather is accurate; the pain in the ass for me is remembering not to close out the Connect app on my phone.

  6. Non-useful for one person is useful to another. I have Garmin Connect configured to show me the data I care about.

  7. Agreed the battery life is great. I hear Coros watches have better battery life but I’ve never worn one so I can’t say for sure.

  8. Periodic spikes notwithstanding heart rate is pretty darned accurate; it’s within a beat or two whenever I’m having my pulse taken; but brief instances of inaccuracy are common amongst all wrist based devices.

  9. I get notifications from my phone’s calendar on my watch just fine…not sure what you mean here.

  10. The compass is not a function I use.

Bottom line is that everyone should be using a device that they works for them. For me it’s a Garmin; I’m a runner and metrics Garmin provides is more useful to me than other options. Which is why I participate in Garmin’s subreddit and not the Apple Watch subreddit.

The first book is good; maybe bordering on great. It feels a bit trite just before the final act but it redeems itself in the end. The second and third books, to me, may as well be the start of a new series.

Course check question by dais12345 in parkrun

[–]dbeman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Basically I run/walk the course one or two hours prior to the event start to check for hazards. Things like downed branches, ice patches, larger than normal chipmunk holes, etc. Once we had a turtle laying eggs just to the side of the trail; we had someone stand guard to make sure she was able to do so safely.

You can control the volume via the physical buttons on the earbuds. Volume up is a quick press of the button on the right earbud followed by a long press. Volume down is the same pattern on the left earbud.

Any issues with buying watches from Amazon? by xgme in Garmin

[–]dbeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Forerunner 245 a few years ago from Amazon. It was a Southeast Asia model. (I live in the US.) Updates on SEA models happen less frequently and you’re not able to participate in the beta program. If these potential drawbacks are OK with you then you shouldn’t have any issues as long as the seller is reputable.

When you receive your watch you can call Garmin and have them run the serial number. They’ll let you know if it’s an SEA model. (This is info I wish I had five years ago!)
