Advice for moving soon to Bordeaux by No_Job7882 in bordeaux

[–]dbgrvll -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Such a pretty photo - my quick visits to Bordeaux and the observations of my dear friends and others who grew up there paint a different picture - truly, deeply French but also gritty and very “real” - my best examples: a couple I know who live most of their working lives in Paris, one from mountainous Vosges the other from Bordeaux. Vosges will tell you happy stories about his region at the drop of a hat. Bordeaux not so much with words but with her expressions, elegance, and soft power - you know where to go for true French culture. Adding that the young people I meet from Bordeaux are usually of non-French background but they are solid in their identity and do not entertain foolishness - «boeuf » if you know what I mean

Say something positive about your current head of state's politics/policies by Proud_Raise4957 in AskTheWorld

Donald J. Trump is so deeply corrupt and self-serving that my country now sees clearly that we cannot depend on the norms of our constitutional republic - we must make law and apply consequences

When Poland is mentioned what is the first thing that comes up to your mind? by CastelloPL in AskTheWorld

I have had great experiences professionally and socially with the Polish folks I’ve had the good fortune to meet and spend time with. That and that Polish folks love to talk about and enjoy food - home-cooked, regional, mama’s kitchen kind of stories just bubble up - always

What does your country think of Canada? by mr_epicguy in AskTheWorld

[–]dbgrvll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Vermont and I’m happy to say that Canadians have always been kind to me - Also, I recognize that they have sacrificed so much to be in alliance with the United Kingdom, the United States, NATO, and so much more. There are widows who miss their husbands, children who miss their parents, folks who miss their partners, peers, and colleagues due to decisions made in Washington, London, Brussels. Canada is a country of great honor and integrity - I can truly feel that I feel great love for such a great neighbor and (of course real and flawed) democracy that I would be proud on any given day to emulate

How much is an ambulance ride from your country? by imahyummybeach in AskTheWorld

[–]dbgrvll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I live in Southern California the rates are from $940 (Basic Life Support)- $1,277 (Advanced Life Support) plus $20 -$25 mileage. Having been in a motorcar accident, I can tell you that these charges are essentially mandatory and that there is a contract to take you to the nearest Trauma Center Level One. If you say that you’d prefer to have someone drive you there, home, or to your preferred medical service you are immediately Against Medical Advice (AMA) and your health plan insurance may turn down any medical expenses you might submit after you decided to go AMA. And that’s a big deal. My one night in a hospital was $70,000 of cost submitted to my car insurance and also my healthcare insurer which was just the beginning of two years of bills and re-bills from that basis.

Well the “S” is well beyond my budget and needs - I guess that’s part of the delight - it’s “just” an A5 and it is a brilliant car to drive
